When I lived in SF in the 90’s, I had to make an animated intro for this thing called the Short Attention Span Film Festival and of course I was also a judge. One of my co-judges knew someone in pee (maybe Kelly) and suggested we use one of their songs as the soundtrack and we used “San Salvador” which is still my favorite from More Charm. I still listen to them sometimes and always wondered what happened to such talented people. Thanks for making this!
4:10 Holy shit! Andee Conners laying down some awesome San Diego music history there. I heard of PEE through a buddy of mine who also introduced me to 3 Mile Pilot and Heavy Vegetable. The vibe I got from PEE super resonated with Heavy Vegetable and other bands from that time in San Diego. Super cool that Andee is aware of the similar geniuses of their craft down here in SD! :) Edit: If you like PEE, fucking listen to Heavy Vegetable!!!!
Oh man, I never thought I'd see a video on p.e.e., especially one interviewing the band members! I discovered them a couple of years ago and instantly became obsessed. It's been awesome seeing them get a lot of traction in online music spaces and I hope they grow even more. They're one of my favorite mathy bands and it's amazing that so many people love them as much as I do. Great work! ps: andee connors is a god, one of the most underrated drummers out there
In 1997 I was the manager of an Australian band mixing their 1st album in N.Y. with Brian Paulsan, the drummer was a huge J Church fan so we went to CBGB's to see them, stumbled in and this band PEE where on stage. They reminded me of Superchunk who I had seen 7 years previously on the same stage. Bought the CD and it soon became one of my fav albums EVER. Sadly along with my other 10,000 vinyl, 15,000 CD collection it went up in flames in 2020. One day I will track a copy down again, and spend my elder years pumping it out in the old peoples home.
I found this band on a website called Epitonic in 1999. It featured the full tracks of Carmen's Theme and Yell if I miss Mortis. As there was no TH-cam Music, iTunes, or other avenues to really turn to on to web, I'd always go back to this site to listen. The site would also link influences and similar artists, all who had a dedicated page of their own. It was a real worm hole that led to the discovery of many other cool bands.
Bro your channel has me getting optimism for music related videos on youtube, esp with the abundance of a "guy doing faces while reacting to trendy albums" content. I binge 99% of your shit and cant get enough. Keep it up
Such a great band! I somehow missed them when I was deep in the mid 90s scene. Discovered them only last year through my kid's scout troop, of all places :)
never heard of this channel b4 i got sent a link to this video cause i love pee (weird ass sentence), but this is dope as hell, subscribed. lets hope we get another pee reunion
Woah, how did I not see this till now! This is awesome! If anyone wants to hear some of their more raw 4 track recordings, we put them out a few years back on a release called "i win me over".
I played a lot of shows with and knew these guys back in the 90's. I was also in one of those bands that released an album on Absolutely Kosher. Another fun fact, I got to know Arcade Fire before they had released an album, because they were considering releasing their first album (funeral) on Absolutely Kosher and my band was on that label. They obviously didn't go that route.
I’m honestly falling in love with this band and more charm + more tender is quickly becoming one of my fav albums of all time but I can’t find any vinyls, any cds, or an official acc!!! I’m totally being over dramatic but I’m suffering man!!
I find it really cool that you did this! It's amazing that such a young man even came across this band and was interested enough to take the initiative and interview them! I randomly came across this band trying to find information about an old foundation called "Miracle Research Center" from the 1990's and that 6 minute LP album came up (on the Google search)! So random! I liked it though so I looked further into these guys and YOUR video came up! I love these kind of random finds! Cool of you to do this! Thanks for doing it! You rock!
you have no idea how excited i am about this given that NOBODY has ever been like, "yeah, i know P.E.E.", i mean MAN that "Now, With More Charm and More Tender!" is one of the greatest albums of all time
@@carcrasherealoh bro--absoLUTELY. i never thought I'd have the band's name's origin, the fact that the MORE CHARM PAINTING IS REAL AND STILL EXISTS, the stories of some of the song titles...man. i am rewatching it again and it's still so fascinating to me....also i forgot how one of the band members actually called it math-pop because thats the exact term I've used when describing it to people who haven't heard them. like mathy midwestern emo-pop with dual vocals. and i was in a math rock trio in chicago from 2008 to 2012 so trust me, I've played with a TON of bands with ELEMENTS that Pee had/has but out of the hundreds of bands we played with there was really no one like Pee. MAYBE algernon cadwallader...? check out the album Paint It Pink by Paper Mice--mathy trio from chicago with equally short songs but far more aggressive/punky. ended up on three 1 G which is srill crazy to me because they're not THAT heavy but yeah if you like Pee just start listening to Paint It Pink. that first track is such a good opener (Fresh Hair) 🫡
@@carcrashereal The Para-medics (yes, im aware there is not supposed to be a hyphen, blame my bandmates lolol) theres a video of us playing our song Tropical Caterpillar that has a shitload of views (for us at least), thats a good one to start with. my fav somg was 40,000,000 Gold Rings and there are a few vids of that one and a studio recording but the mix on our last album is AWFUL imo
Hey 108mics! I hope this comment reaches you. I loved your videos on tread and surge and was wondering if you'd make future videos about emerging sounds and trendy genres again soon. I loved your work on those and it was a great way to keep up with those sounds at the time. Thank you in advance if you do respond to me.
