    Great video! I wonder if we could just embroider the patch directly on 3 layers of the clear WSS?

      @ricomatv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you totally can.

    I love your videos and TH-cam channel I have a friend that wants to make a bookmark where it’s embroidered with a feather on one side and the other side has the persons name on it I’ve watched numerous videos I have not had success from what I’m gathering if I did it your way I would embroider both designs and then cut out. Then bond together and then stitch out outline and lay on top and sew final border. Is it too much fabric

    What is the point of using the water soluble backing if it just gets teared off? Couldn't you just finish the satin border on the original fabric and apply the heat n bond straight to it?

    • @carlytorres21
      @carlytorres21 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am wondering the same. Dont understand why you need water soluble

    • @sdlorimor
      @sdlorimor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can, but since you can't clip the cloth exactly next to the thread you'll still have a little ring of fabric surrounding the patch. You also have to apply Fray Check or a similar product to prevent the fabric from fraying. Either way, it's not nearly as nice of a border as the way they're doing it, which in turn isn't as nice as a traditional Merrowed border (which requires specialized equipment).
      I've been doing it the way you suggest then using a heat knife to cut the edge of the fabric. The heat knife seals the border to prevent fraying, but it significantly more labor intensive.

    It would be great to have a step by step on how to set up your Ricoma machine and .dst file for this process of creating patches. Do you have anything similar?

    What type of Twill did you use 100% cotton or Cotton/Poly Blend?

  • @loganhouse6660
    @loganhouse6660 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you're going to immediately apply it, why not use a fusible interfacing instead of the water soluble stabilizer?

    • @ricomatv
      @ricomatv  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like a good idea we will try it.

    Hi Laura, thanks for the video. I'm going to try to make my first patch for a customer, but I'll do a test first. Do you have instructions on how to create the running stitch and satin stitches in Chroma to go around my existing logo? Thank you.

    • @ricomatv

      To prevent stitches from sinking into terry knits and similar fabrics.

    where do youbuythe heat and bond

    • @sdlorimor
      @sdlorimor 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael's sells it. They have two versions: Heat n Bond Lite and Heat n Bond Ultra. Lite has less adhesive. Both are quite cheap -- about $10 for 5 yards of material. Michael's always has coupons to buy it for cheap, as well as periodic online sales.

    • @mandahenson9433
      @mandahenson9433 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joann Fabrics also has it. You can by it in a package or by the yard. It is usually cheaper by the yard. Just make sure the cutter rolls it instead of folding it.

    Just order these custom made from china. Cheaper and less time consuming. This is a great idea when you are doing a few to maybe 10 custom made “need it tomorrow” jobs.
