Back in the 1980s I went down Zzyzx road.....both sides. This side did lead to the springs...where we met with a professor from UCLA who told us some of the history of the area, which included the springs and which was also, at one time, a US Calvary outpost and also a former area where natives gathered. It is, or at least at that time, was owned by the UC school system and considered an active anthropological dig site and we were politely told after our history lesson beat it. No walking around was permitted, as they were still finding so many artifacts of Calvary/Indian and resort attendees, they couldn't take the chance people would walk off with them. On the other side of the highway, the road continues in the other direction. If one follows that side, which is mostly dirt road, it will eventually lead to a dead end and a cabin. The cabin is very small but was stocked with blankets, and canned food and a well. There was a sign that stated all people were allowed to stay but to please not to cause damage. There was even a guest book inside on a table for all to sign. Adventures of my 19 year old self.
This video is half accurate on things. Pronounced more like z-eye-zix, the lake was created by Springer and dubbed "Lake Tuendae", the historic (pre-springer) title for the general Zzyzx area was Soda Springs.
Cool! Your channel is becoming one of my favorites! Love seeing parts of ca I've yet to explore and it's giving me lots of future road trip ideas I've always wondered what's on zzyyxx road!
California Through My Lens Yes! We have many charming tiny towns in the foothills and ocean sides up and down the state. Lots of cheese makers and breweries, many with historic charm!!!!
You missed the old rusted car parking lot. If you go straight down the first road lined with palm trees, it will be off to your right. You will see it through the palms.

Named my pup after this road. We picked her up from the shelter on the way to Vegas. As another commenter pointed out, it’s pronounced zeye-zix.
the punishment for vandalism should be life imprisonment
Well we went there but theres a gate and we couldn’t get in. All we saw were the bathrooms. A sign said you need an appointment. Huh. A bust!
All this time I thought meth was being made out there . Pictured a zombie like town lol. Thanks for all the info!
