    Last proper looking Range Rover in my opinion. Not that I'd say no to a new L405. But, this was the beast. The sound of that V8 diesel. As good as a petrol V8.

      I agree with you but it’s important to reach that conclusion in the knowledge that these vehicles are not cheap to run. If you can set aside a few grand each year to cover the potential problems, and have good roadside assistance cover and alternative transport if needed, then the indulgence is worth it. If you have to spend a couple of hours of your life each day behind the wheel,, why waste the opportunity to make it an enjoyable experience?

    I have to say i am still in-love with this model, i owned a 2008 Supercharged and it was fun to drive - for 4 years after that it gives me headache. LR builds nice Off Road vehicles but it’s just not realizable cars. It doesn’t have a compass on top of that for an off-road🥴. Perhaps if Toyota takes over they can bring the Marque back.

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Vogue drives better, the 4.4 is awesome but for me the 3.0 Sport is ideal, and fairly economical too considering its size

  • @justinneill5003
    @justinneill5003 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes they are awesome vehicles, mine is a little older and I love driving it. But you’ve only had it for 5 minutes; how about an update after a couple of years? when anyone in the know looks at a review of a 2012 Range Rover, what they are looking for is... how reliable has it been? Unfortunately even the best kept service book will only tell you what was done on the regular service . What it won’t tell you is about the replacement of Air Suspension bags, turbocharger, gearbox, handbrake mechanism, wiper motor, brake pipes, fuel pump, and whatever else, in between those services. And at the prices charged for parts and labour, that is exactly what people need to know before they buy one. These vehicles are a considerable ongoing financial commitment. As long as people realise that and still consider it worth it, like I do, that’s fine. You can budget for that. The only thing that does bother me though, is that you never know where or when you’ll be stranded when the problem hits.

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LOL only driving it for 5 minutes, I've bought and sold about 50 Range rovers over the past 4 years. We are responsible for both reconditioning and warranty when we sell them, and from memory, we have had one airbag problem £250, one suspension compressor and we bought it like that (£600) a heated windscreen problem which was a fuse 50p, and a Turbo Actuator which was stuck and we freed it off, a cooling fan for a heated and cooled seat £250, apart from that they have been great cars, I've done about 40,000 miles in various cars, and my customers have covered approximately 700,000 Miles between them, so i would consider myself to be included in your "Anyone in the Know" section and i think they are great cars that if looked after and maintained are equally as good if not better than Mercedes or BMW, oh and I have been in the Motor Trade for 50 years too

    • @justinneill5003
      @justinneill5003 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BarrieCrampton OK I stand corrected, but I can only go from my personal experience. I have a 2002 Vogue (L322). Yes it's the earlier slightly under powered BMW set up which I bought with 150k on the clock, but even with that, after covering a further 40k myself I (although spread over 10 years as it's a holiday car abroad) would not have expected.... rreplacement gearbox (recon), replaced turbocharger, both front air suspension bags, wiper motor, fuel pump, handbrake assembly, brake caliper, discs & brake pipe, bodywork repair (rusting on wheel arch where water collects behind it,) replaced trim mouldings below front seat, rear light cluster lens covers, upper brake light lens cover, various lesser suspension parts, and probably more I've forgotten; total spend (routine servicing aside) around £15k. is it possible that those 50 cars pass through your hands fairly quickly before these big issues arise? Nobody would be happier than me to learn that more recent models are more reliable because I'm thinking of trading in my Toyota Land Cruiser LC3 for a 2014-ish Range Rover but it's a brave move as I'm sure you don't need me to tell you how the Land Cruiser compares with the Range Rover for reliability. 5 mins on google for reviews will tell the story. And I'm not a hater (I can't be if I've kept mine on the road regardless of cost) they are awesome vehicles but surely youre not suggesting they aren't expensive to maintain? You'd be the first I've ever heard to claim that.

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Justin Neill sounds like you have been unlucky, weve had all sorts of ages and mileages, and believe me if something goes wrong with a car even if its out of warranty customers cant wait to tell you. Also we have experience with other older vehicles like Bmws which ingest swirl flaps and blow the engines up, chew through timing chains causing catastrophic engine failure, bodh control units £800 stupid led lamps where 1 led goes and a new lamp costs £390 VW’s injectors £350 1 goes and the whole car stops, egr valves £600, minis exploding gearboxes, renault every single electrical item in the car, Audis Air Bag ecus £1000 Fords turbos, engines blowing up, etc etc, i could go on, and on, and on

    • @justinneill5003
      @justinneill5003 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BarrieCrampton OK, I think I'm going to go for it. My Land Cruiser appears to have been written off after I took it through deep water without a snorkel which entered the air intake, that's why I'm in the market. I was shocked, it was within the manufacturer's wading depth and they are supposed to be unstoppable but I think a sudden wave lapped over. I know the Rangie has an extra 20cm wading depth and that matters where I live! Our local Land Rover dealership has a better reputation than the Toyota dealer which is just as important as reliability because maintenance is as expensive as the garage wants it to be!

    I know it's probably trendier and better suited to the people who are buying them these days, but the L405 isn't a patch on the L322. Either in terms of pure handsome, timeless looks or genuine practicality. Though who knows, if they replace it with an even bigger pig, in ten years even the L405 might seem restrained by comparison. xD

      Just sold my 2012 Westminster after 150,000 miles, absolutely loved it and it was totally reliable (unusual for a RR!), I've now got a new shape 4.4 Autobiography. The new one is better in almost every department but it doesn't have the same sense of occasion the L322 does, they are fantastic cars for what you can buy them for, but make sure you get the later 4.4 with the 8 speed gearbox, it's night and day better and much more reliable and surprisingly frugal ( I averaged 30MPG)

      they get a lot of bad publicity, I think it is because people expect more of British Built Products, and hold the manufacturers to a higher standard, but the truth is that we sell lots of LandRover Cars, and they go wrong less than Audis, Mercedes, and Certainly BMWs,

    Besides the fact, that it rains all the time in England because of what humans have done to the Earth....Sorry, Land Rover Range Rover....there is no "Evasive" maneuvers in that vehicle and it doesn't keep going and going. It gets about 14MPG and the reliability? I don't have to continue. In addition: You're not on your media room couch. Can you sit any farther from the steering wheel? It's not a GT3 car or F1 (horrid computer driven/no manuals racing) but, your 10 feet or 3.33 meters away. ;)
