The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Thank you very much for this beautiful performance of "Who Can I Turn To" by Anna Maria. This was her last of many appearances on the Sullivan show. She first appeared in 1951 at the age of 14 and here is at 31 in her final performance on the show. I'm not sure if she was on any other color episodes, but this is a treasure. Thank you!

Nice performance of this standard from _The Roar of the Greasepaint-- the Smell of the Crowd_ Tony Bennett hit the charts with it, and Matt Monro recorded my favorite version. Thanks for posting this one!

I had to look that one up. I listened to both versions. They were both so good, but there was something about Matt Monro's voice. I also found a duet with Tonny Bennet and Glorie Estefan, that was Beautiful. Thank you for sharing! 💖

I was a little boy and those commercials were on all the time. I had no idea what she was famous for. William Shatner did “Promise margarine” and Florence Henderson did “Wesson oil”. She kind of disappeared after that.

Even as a child, Anna Maria was one of the top operatic voices in history. A beautiful woman in and out (Yes, I knew her). It might surprise many of you that many people, even remarkably talented ones, come to a point where an A-list career in show biz loses its allure, and they either walk or stay active in a non-limelight capacity, as did Anna Maria. It's infinitely more common than most would think.
Sei una signora straordinaria, mia compagna italiana. Say hello to your sister, Carla, another magnificent and magnificently talented lady.

When women were feminine, no tattoos or metal on their faces. Just diamond earrings and pearl necklaces. I remember that the vast majority of young women weighted about a 100 lb. And husbands could carry brides over there threshold!! The good old days weren't always so good, but it was very elegant!

The good old days weren't perfect - nothing is - but they came a damn site closer to perfection than what we're experiencing today.
There's a great little paperback novel called Jordy, Bounce, and Lilli, that captures the flavor of the post- WWII era through the lives of two small children and their cat. I know it's available on Amazon. I just finished my copy… loved it.
