Nice 👍 job Dave. I just bought 3 hostas from Home Depot today. It’s a beautiful day here in S.Carolina and great for 🌱 planting. Thanks for the info!

Thank you, Ulrich. A nice cool shower and cold beer to finish the day. Worked out well.

Thanks for the valuable information and tips. I just bought a hosta from my local grocery store the other day and excited to plant it in the shaded area in my backyard.

Thank you for sharing this information. I feel more confident now in terms of planting and caring for hostas. I've ordered 30 of them so I needed to know.

I live in Dallas and our soil isn't that great mainly clay. What would you suggest adding to the soil to make it a better growing environment for hostas?

I used compost and potting soil. My soil has some clay so removed some of it to burn up around the plants to help hold water in place..The yard slopes so the burn kept the water from running off. The hole you dig should be at least twice the diameter of the pot that the plant came in. Dig the hole a couple inches deeper than the root ball and fill in with the potting soil and compost so the top of the soil from the potted plant is the same level as the surrounding soil. Back fill with the potting soil and compost to ground level. Water well to get out any air pockets in the soil.

I have an indoor Patriot hosta. Should I put it outside in the winter to go thru a rest period?

I have not used that particular hosta. It is not heat tolerant for my area of south central Texas. Winter conditions vary by region, so your best source of information would be a local gardening club, master gardener at a nursery, or county extension service. Quickly researching on the Internet, I did not find anything on plants normally indoors being moved outdoors. Snails and slugs are attracted to hostas so also consider their protection if doing outdoors.

So wind, traffic, aircrafts, and at the end you hear an ice cream truck..... what kind of neighborhood does this dude live in? lmao I can see the thermometer raise with every sound.
