    It's disgraceful that we can only earn $204 per fortnight, which is not even a day's pay in 14, before our pension starts being cut back and yet they complain that they can't fill positions

    Katherine happy birthday and remember are like a good Scotch we get better with age and congratulations on your TH-cam milestone.
    With the benefit of 10 years in retirement I’d like to add that while being financially prepared for retirement is very important one has to be also prepared socially. In the run up to retirement people should be preparing themselves for the change, how are they going to spend their retirement years as we move through the GoGo Years into the SlowGo and eventually the NoGo years because the Greatest Wealth is Health.

      I loved your comment Stuart and agree with you 100%. Health and Wealth go hand in hand and the trick is to keep them both for as long as possible😀

    I’m not sure why Tom & Jane’s pension payments would be reduced when they have the maximum allowable savings to allow a full pension. Is it due to deeming of these assets?

    • @AboutRetirementTV

      exactly, you are correct. I will do an update to this video as few questions appeared here and I have to explain extra bit of the change that somehow I have not included.

    Happy Birthday Katherine, I’m 67 and applied for age pension nearly 4 months ago. I do receive an sms every fortnight advising my claim is in progress. Are you able to advise if this is normal and what I can do to have resolved.

    • @perspective4517
      @perspective4517 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 months delay is ridiculous. First, contact them one last time (I know, easier said than done...visit in person if you can) and make it clear that the excessive delay in processing your claim is unacceptable and that if it isn't processed and a determination regarding eligibility provided within 7 days of the date of this communication you will be contacting both your local federal member (lower house.... name them and the electorate) and the federal minister (name them too), detailing the number of communications you have had and the delay in processing your claim. Include how this is affecting your financial situation, is causing stress at a time in life when you ought not to have economic uncertainty, if you're having to rely on relatives to borrow money or bleeding out your super to stay afloat etc: whatever is the truth as to the impact of the delay. Having worked for the federal government, there's nothing worse than the secretary of the department receiving a 'please explain' from the minister when his department is not doing their job. I understand that they are understaffed and cannot cope with the workload, but that won't change until the people who rely on us for their jobs, politicians, allocate sufficient funding to enable the department to handle the workload. They'll only do that when they hear from people in your situation and understand the sheer number of people affected. You are not alone. Good luck!

    Hi Katherine, thankyou for your videos and information. Just wondering if you can cover situations where couples both on age pension and both working part time. Non homeowners and no assets as such or finances to fall back on. As it happens to some of us late in life to find we have nothing. It's extremely difficult to work out , what the best balance is between work hours (income) and pension entiltlment amount, to receive the maximum income possible.

    • @AboutRetirementTV
      @AboutRetirementTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pat, thank you for your note, I will try to create a video as you listed. I am sure you are correct in saying that finding that sweet spot between amount of income earned and keeping the most of the Age Pension could be difficult.

    • @patguster5972
      @patguster5972 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for replying Katherine. We are totally lost as suddenly without explanation and no changes to our situation our pension base rate was decreased considerably. And no surprises here but centre link didn't have any idea why??? Your input is greatly appreciated. The videos are a great source of information.

    It is only fair that people with lots of assets get a lower pension amount. There will only be a few thousand people who have $300K in their bank accounts.

    • @gazzafloss

    Thanks katherine and happy birthday!! Just wanted to ask ..my husband is eligible for pension in 2 years but I am.not eligible for another 6 years after that..when my husband applies for pension will he be seen as having to adhere to single asset test rates or couple asset rates? Thankyou!

    • @AboutRetirementTV
      @AboutRetirementTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Leanne, thank you and your husband will be assessed as couple, so all family assets will be assessed (not your super and the family home) and the payment will be as per couple rate. I hope this answers your question. 😀

    I am 63 soon and just wondered about these people I hear about that are a fee years away from retirement that retire early and burn up their assets to get a pension. I know they look at your bank accounts going back a few years if they see that there was a deliberate burn of cash do they then take this into consideration? Also another thing here... If you worked until 67 and build up your wealth to be independent so you are independent, if this is a better Idea. Which I think it is.

    • @AboutRetirementTV
      @AboutRetirementTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      many questions - so you are allowed to spend on yourself however much, Centrelink is looking backwards 5 years to see if you have give away more that allowed. Building wealth is always better, but there are ways to still maximise the overall benefit - have good savings and still get government benefits, or at least some of them. my suggestion is at some point, just organise a meeting with me and we can compare those situations

    • @bretthorwood9396
      @bretthorwood9396 ปีที่แล้ว
