Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I’m considering this trimmer along with the Echo and Toro. The only thing that scares me is there are so many reviews saying it over heats and burns up the batteries. I wonder if that was because of the discontinued 9 ah battery that used to come with it?
I would never use a 5Ah with this tool. I consider it to be a heavy duty tool and would use a 6 or an 8. As you can see, it does well with normal grass trimming. It is not meant for extreme farm type use or ditchbanks. That is where I believe people get into trouble.

@@WorkshopAddict There's just something about that angle of attack that seems off. I guess the other way I would try it is the same direction, with the trimmer perpendicular to the building and slowly walk backwards. You'd have more control but the grass would kick into your legs, and who knows, maybe still clog up :/
Milwaukee trimmer spins the opposite direction of every trimmer I've ever owned. It feels so backwards. Being a brushless motor, they should have made it easy to reverse directions, that way you can shoot the grass any direction that makes sense for the scenario.
Is the head full of grass? If there is any tension on the head the motor won't start. But it is also odd to have used it for 10 mins and be at a full battery.
Don’t know if it has enough power to try this But I take guard off run line a bit longer see if that help The problem with string trimmers they need to make power from 9,000 to 5,000 rpm For brush less motor it’s haveing difficulty having a wide power band I feel a Eltric motor ment for a set speed and that’s it That’s why lawn mower leaf blower that stay at one rpm and never have to make power any were else are doing well If u want a wide power band u can’t put a big load on it Ur option is to put a huge brush motor make to heavy Or make performance brush less motor and they u have rpm but dosnt have the ballz because it’s still small motor lol
What no one ever mentions, is if you take off the guard and run the string only slightly longer than the guard allows, the unit will overload after a couple of mins and cut out repeatedly. IMO this is a poor design. My makita doesn't do this, but it doesn't have near the grunt. I hate the guards haven't used them in years and they interfere with everything around tree wires and things like that. It is a thermal component because once it does it it won't even turn back on without cutting out. All my gas ones and my one 36V makita electric do not have this issue. I'm returning, my second version of this, again. I gave them a year to fix their over sensitive electronics but I guess it will be a design issue forever. Maybe i'll try again in 5 years..but otherwise love the torque!

If it’s tall and stringy. Cut mid way then at base.
why mine is not working after 10-15 mins but just hiccup…. battery still full…. i dont understand…
Is the head full of grass? If there is any tension on the head the motor won't start. But it is also odd to have used it for 10 mins and be at a full battery.
Mine is one month out of warranty (13months old) and the inner shaft of the head stripped out! Pretty unsatisfied with the longevity for the price!!!
3yr is the warranty time
@Kaspar James Found that out but took them 4 MONTH'S to decide they were just going to replace it!
Yes, I wear gloves when running this because of that vibration !
Don’t know if it has enough power to try this
But
I take guard off run line a bit longer see if that help
The problem with string trimmers they need to make power from 9,000 to 5,000 rpm
For brush less motor it’s haveing difficulty having a wide power band
I feel a Eltric motor ment for a set speed and that’s it
That’s why lawn mower leaf blower that stay at one rpm and never have to make power any were else are doing well
If u want a wide power band u can’t put a big load on it
Ur option is to put a huge brush motor make to heavy
Or make performance brush less motor and they u have rpm but dosnt have the ballz because it’s still small motor lol
Get the 17” flexvolt I’m glad I did. Once you go black and yellow you never go back 😉
I have it and will put up my one year review on that. I dispise the safety on that model.
@@WorkshopAddict true lol I refilled with .9 trimmer line and now I squint in my glasses for safety
I stick 2 the makita 36v than thanks
Mine feels pretty heavy tbh
Milwaukee is leaps and bounds better than Dewalt. I had two Dewalt crap out, issue motor circuit board. They were both looked after and not abused. Stay away. As for vibration its not an issue with me and never noticed. I have a Quick Lok Milwaukee and never no issues cutting foot long hay. The head is designed not to get grass wrapped around, not like on your model with motor on head.
Its a good weed eater and strong to
Solid review
Yes this machine sucks on the farm each battery lasts 10 minutes and keeps getting caught does not handle really thick hard weeds either would not recommend by a gas one I will try a different string for it though see if that makes a difference but I go through batteries a lot
Surprised your getting vibration with motor on the head
Comon issue with this trimmer.
@@WorkshopAddict Ever check the line is the same length on both sides, I have the 20v dewalt and the only time I get noticeable vibration is when the line is uneven
“Make sure to wear gloves” proceeds to not wear gloves in any demonstrations. Lol
Why home owners still have grass all the way up against there house? Such a waste of time!
Vibrations can't be worse then a gas trimmer.
Two trimmers and four heads. Can't use any of them. The heads tangle up inside. Don't even get two minutes out of them. They are junk.
Totally vibration. Huge shaft.
Got this about a year ago. Works great when it works. Thing over heats after about 30 minutes of working with it. I’m a Milwaukee guy sucks to see they’d put out such a crappy design.
I love to hear ppls experience , kinda iffy about it now , I have all gas powered and wanted to give this a try . When it’s a new item ppl have good things to say however glad you had a whole year to experience it. If you bought any other battery trimmer would you buy this again or try another brand ?
@@aronp713 I think I would have to see a significant design change to the cooling system in order to buy this again. I’ll probably keep going gas until that happens.
Obviously its not going to compare to a gas powered......
Better off with a gas weed eater. I know I'll never go electric.
I just returned mine. Battery string trimmer aren’t worth it right now. Stick to gas 👍🏼
Tried all the Milwaukee string trimmers, and hate them for their vibration! They cut well, but your arm health should be worth more then these stupid things. poorly designed when it comes to vibration. Ego, Dewalt, Toro, and Echo so far light years better then the Milwaukee's.
All those brands are JUNK......Milwaukee is the best, period.
@@94SexyStang LOOOOL!!!!! May i ask what your background is? I do this for a living, curious where u get your info from?
@@94SexyStangI have two trimmers and four heads. They are junk. Tangle up inside all the time. Can't even use them.
