Ron Davies was a class act. I remember that game well and couldn't believe we got such a hammering at home. But we were on the slide and didn't know it. Ron signed for United a few years later but he wasn't with us that long.
Pure gold, thank you. Subscribed! Two points about Leeds and Din Revie (I realise you probably know them already!) 1. Revie changed their strip to all white soon after taking over to copy Real Madrid's colours. 2, They were vicious of course, so he encouraged the use of 'harmless sounding' first names for them - Jackie, Johnny, Billy, Eddie etc - as an attempt to divert from their violence! I find that both clever and hilarious,
blimey!that was even before we were watching the big match!it's hard to believe that just five years before we started watching it,it was in black and white it's hard to believe ,that the black and white days are now nearly sixty years ago!
This proved to be a watershed season for Man Utd. Twice league champions and European Cup winners in the 60s It was downhill until after relegation in 1974, Tommy Docherty rebuild a top side again after promotion in the next season. My team Everton would complete an early season double over united and go on to win the league title at the end of 1969-70. After which they struggled until the mid 70s. Ron Davies was a top striker who would have improved the Everton team back then. Believe the 60s and 70s players, whilst not as athletic as todays, they had more technical skills and adaptability to play in all conditions during the winter time in the season.
Brian Moore was a great presenter. I remember Utd getting thumped by Southampton. I was 9 at the time. 64 now and still love Utd. Football then wasnt full of passing for the sake of it. Football today is too tactical and full of useless stats. There was good football before the Premier league. Unfortunately we have a generation who only think it started when the Premier league started.
Watching these games, the names and faces come flooding back from when I was a kid 55 years ago. Thank you.
Me too!
Lovely seeing these old classic Big Match programmes from the late 60s and early 70s

Thanks CFM for this great haul of late 60s early 70s footy. Real football not fake football. These Big Match intros show how great that era was. 👍.
Yes!
Thank you!
Superb wing play from Saints John Sydenham.

Point 3. Revie was a cheat who tried to bribe opponents in important games.
