When I watched the first video I wasn’t sure you were hanging steel targets. So glad you did. All I could think about is you having to replace them within a year from the damage pending how much you shoot. I’m looking to do something similar but I’ll be using the railroad ties on the side of the range and a dirt backstop. I teach NRA and carry classes and ready to have my own range.
I like your nice solid build. The threaded rod to hold the top together is a great idea. I am looking at building a back stop also. Two thoughts for my build. I see some light through the ties. I think I will offset the back row of ties by half to prevent complete pass through. Also you have room for three more ties I think I will fill mine up to give extra protection. Thanks for the great ideas.
Great job sir.... my only concern is the at the 3:34 mark the little round steel plate is so high and that would concern me because its so high you could easily miss and send a stray bullet flying in the air because it truly dont have no upper backstop to it. Nice setup though👍
Bro., nice job on the shooting backstop, but I'd suggest you more securely attach the steel plates somehow. Otherwise people will steal them. Also I don't know what became of the Mossberg Patriot you had trouble getting to shoot consistently, but if you still have that rifle and still can't get it to shoot as well as you'd like, you might want to take up reloading to be able to experiment on getting ammo tailor made to shoot well in a particular rifle.
Hey thanks for watching. I sold the Mossberg but I do hand load and I did get one load to shoot OK. I'm not worried about the steel getting stolen, we're pretty secluded.
Hi Joe, thanks for your reply to a comment I recently made. Also I would strongly suggest you set up HIDDEN surveilance cameras that run continuously and have night recording ability. Anti second amendment, chronic bed wetting liberals will sabotage your range in one of various ways. A great gun range we had here in Alberta was forcibly closed by the local government when anti gunners filled it with 5 tons of garbage one night.
I do have trail cams up. I'm quite literally what we call "out in the sticks" and if anyone were to find it, they'd more likely use it than tear it up. It's just a bunch of coverall wearin' good 'ol boys around here.

Yeah, I didn't want to have to replace a RR tie from the bottom of the stack lol.

Looks great
Unless you’re shooting a 50 BMG at that wall, you could shoot 1 million rounds at it and never have to replace a tie.
Great build...what are the final dimensions?
Hey, it's approx 16ft long and 6ft tall. It's a little taller on the right side b/c the ground slopes.
Where did you get the steel plate ?
Where did you get those 4 big steel plates?

Where did ya get your ties?
Meeks
"Yeah"/"Yep". lol
Total cost on this build not incuding targets
My brother paid for the wood and I paid for the steel. I think the RR ties were about $20/ea. The steel was like $225/ea.
