- This journal is a BIG one- you will need the Big Shot Plus or Big Shot Pro to die cut it. It measures 8 3/4" x 6 1/4" with an adjustable spine of 1/2" all the way up to 2"! So many options and things you can make: art journal, junk journal, diary, planner, technique journal, travel journal- add photos, journaling, sketches, watercolors, paint or doodles. You decide!

I'm so glad to see a full sized book die! It's so much more practical than most of the little mini book dies usually sold! I'm waiting for my switch machine to be delivered Wednesday and so I'll be able to use this die once I get one of these to go into the machine. Hand-made journals will make great gifts to have on hand for when I need something to give.
Hi iamgiftbearer! So glad you have this die- it feels very substantial. One think to know- The pressure on the switch is strong- Depending on the weight of your material, you may find that the score lines are cutting through. Sizzix has a crease pad coming out in August which will help with that, but in the meantime I would direct you to the Sizzix website www.sizzix.com/eileen-hull where I offer other solutions to prevent that. Just wanted you to know in case it happens- there are ways to work with it.
Yes these are so practical and pretty too! Plus you can customize color, style, etc. Have fun!

Hey Eileen....this is such a great steel rule die to make a practical journal. I don't have a large format die cutting machine (well actually I do but it's a Gemini electric) but I'll be keeping an eye on a good sale price for the Spellbinders large format machines. Thanks for all the great tips, Eileen. PS...you're granddaughter is absolutely gorgeous!

Hi, what brand and what size of mat board are you using with this die? Sizzix mat board measures 6×13. It is too small for this die
@Lil & Live I am using pieces of matboard from my stash that I have cut down from a 32” x 40” sheet. To use this die you need a 9” x 12” piece of chipboard, leather, foam, wood or metal.

No the die is too thick for that machine- sorry.
what size are the insert books please
Insert books just have to fit inside the book which measures 6 1/2” x 8 3/4”. You can use A5 books too

Oh no! But good solution Sharon... One must make the best of things :-) In the meantime you can be making a list of all the journals you want to make!
so could these be used with regular signatures that are stitched in? instead of the elastic?

If you want a thick book and make a journal with 5 signatures, does it leave a raised area when you attach the one area?
Yes there is a one spine overlap if you make a 5 signatures. One way to strengthen and reinforce that spine would be to machine stitch down the overlapped piece...

So the brown, embossed journal (the one on the cover of the die), what material did you use? And what did you emboss it with?
That brown material is leather Dawn. And I embossed it with my Sizzix Sweater 3D embossing folder. Isn't it amazing? Love it!
@@EileenHull Yes, it is amazing...that's why I bought the die, lol. Then realized it was too big for my machine, so I bought a new die cutter.

Hi!I would like to know how you attach the faux leather cuts together?Is it a special glue for leather or will a hot glue gun work?TIA
Hi Yoshira- yes there is a special leather glue- I got it at Michael’s. But I have also used easy cut adhesive sheets and they work well too. Hot glue might work but it’s kind of bulky and you could have lumps showing :-)

Hello, could you tell me if it’s A5 size for the notebooks this journal takes? A5 Size, 8.26x5.5inch
Yes, that size would work! The book measures 8.75" x 6.25"...

I’m trying to find time to play with it more, so I’ve been making the cover a few minutes of the day at a time and I’m about to order the notebooks from Amazon as I can only find blank ones on A5 size…these are the ones I need for now.
