- Man overboard equipment familiarization training is an important part of our job. This might look like we’re just playing around, but that’s because we are so comfortable with our recovery equipment that it’s functionality becomes second nature. Prepare for the worst, while hoping for the best
I love the netting you have to pull them aboard with many times someone who’s been in the water may be too weak to “climb aboard”. Great stuff Captain.

Same here. The courage of those who put out to sea is amazing. I couldn't do it. When I watch a video of ships in storms, I get anxiety, from the safety of my room! 😏

@@tugAuthor yes. When someone is suspended on the ladder all focus and attention should be on that person until the clear sign is given. Remember crew can fall overboard as well. It's 10-20 seconds of inattention that kills you in that biz.

What if no one spots a man is overboard especially at night.
Hopefully they can swim long time.
Usually a good crew is at all times aware of who should be where and follow up when someone is out of place. Also there’s the buddy system that most companies follow. That is no one should be out on deck working alone.

@@timothyboone5003 After the person climbed up the ladder and the boat 🚢 moved apart the person threw a red coloured tyre in the sea. In this video itself.
That’s not a tire, that’s a life ring/ring bouy. They are using it as an Oscar dummy (a man overboard).training. That one you can tell is for training because the ones stationed around the boat have a water activated flashing beacon attached.

what is the exact role of the pilot?
The pilot is the one with the specialized local knowledge of the port: subsurface obstacles, currents depending on tidal state; other ships etc. You can't expect every captain to have that level of familiarity with local conditions. These pilots are coming aboard a ship arriving at port: you will see the opposite when the ship leaves and then they have to drop the pilot once they are in open water.
