- Join me in this vlog where I’ll be visiting the Chelsea Flower Show. Back home in Edinburgh I’ve been shopping for new artwork, and designing a new rug!
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, formally known as the Great Spring Show, is a garden show held for five days in May by the Royal Horticultural Society in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in Chelsea, London. This past Thursday I had to say goodbye to my sweet Lucky. He was a 17 year old Yorkie. He left this earth sleeping peacefully in my arms (with a bit of help from the vet). One of the hardest moments in my life. Give sweet Sofie a squeeze from a sad doggie mom in Oklahoma. May you have at least 17 wonderful years together. Love the pictures so very classy. Hugs

I am so glad to hear Sophie is ok. I was holding my breath the entire video! Dogs are such a blessing to our lives. They are definitely creatures of habit. My little dog had some skin issues on the tips of her ears. Something that made the edges of her velvety ears a tiny bit thicker than normal. It all turned out to be allergies too. We were given some cream to use on her ears and she got a steroid shot as well. Our vet said she will probably drink a bit more water for a couple of weeks because of the shot, and she has. But she’s fine. Allergies can do strange things to our four legged friends. Again, I am so happy Sophie is happy and healthy!

I agree in that I think your rug might need an anchor color, either within or as a border. If a vivid green is too bold, maybe consider a darker grey. Good news about Sophie! Personally, I think pets’ lifespans should better align with ours but God hasn’t replied. 😊
You are so smart Nicholas! I'm glad Sophie is ok. You entertain me today, not every girl, woman knows how to manage the house like you, dear. It just pleasantly surprises me, this is rarely seen. I think you’re right regarding Sophie, she’s elderly and perhaps being cared for by strangers is less than ideal now, I hope she’ll rally round and perk up bless her ❤️🐶🙏🏻xx

Thanks for the update on Sophie. You are such a good attentive dog companion. After the age of 10 it is best that dogs stay home and not travel. The air quality in London might just be too difficult on her lungs and it might make your travels a bit easier. I have two dogs and two cats and I don’t travel with any of them. Their place is in my home.

Those choice for the rug are fabulous! They will work perfectly for whatever new pieces you bring into the space, and I can’t wait to see the rug! I love the wall color, it’s the one I wanted you to do. Those 2 new pictures will look so good on that wall color! Very exciting!

I’m so pleased you bought the maps, you’ll never regret a purchase like this and they’ll follow you where ever you go. I live in the Cotswolds near Oxford and bought some large old maps of Oxford, I love looking at them, they are also classic and timeless. I have a 11 year old terrier and she’s become very anxious the older she gets, she constantly needs me for reassurance and looks to me for my reactions. Puppies are wonderful but when they reach this age this is when the love, bond and trust between dog and owner is at its strongest, Sophie is lucky to have you. All the best x
I LOVE the new artwork but I do adore the painting over your fireplace, too. And since I adore a sconce - I'd say buy new, fab sconces and put the art on the far wall! Whatever you choose to do will, obviously, be wonderful.
I’m so glad Sophie is alright! I have an almost 12 year old Labrador and I understand your sentiments. Although we know they cannot remain with us forever, we can still hope for a very long while. Also, do not fret over what others think of your devour choices variety is the spice of life!

Betty here.....I so enjoyed seeing London through your eyes (I'm from the USA). The flowers were glorious as were the storefronts. Love the two map prints...the sepia tones are so soothing! Being a single parent of 2 adopted senior Yorkshire terriers ,10 and 14 years old, I can totally relate to your health concerns for beautiful Sophie. So relieved to learn that all was well in the end.

Wanted to mention from a feng shui perspective, it is good to update furniture, clothing, etc. You mentioned many of these pieces you had in your previous home and relationship. Bringing in new items will infuse new energy into your life in Edinburgh.

As per so many other comments, I'm so glad Sophie is ok. Those of us who have pets so understand how stressful it is when they have problems. Your home is beautifully decorated, but I do understand there is a time for change as we get tired and bored with the same decor. I love changing things up too.

As our dogs age, (my Standard poodle is 14!) their larynx some times doesn’t function as well & they wheeze & chuff & hack a bit. Excitement makes it worse. My old boy has the same issue when his routines are topsy turvy. I’m glad to hear Sophie is better. Your painting over the fireplace is my absolute favorite!

I completely understand your caution with Sophie, hoping all is well. I have an older dog and have also adjusted plans accordingly. Always appreciate your tranquility and your creative growth and think the maps are a great choice as well as a rug. Looking forward to new surprises.

It always stresses me to be away from my pets. But sometimes it's necessary. Everyone needs a break occasionally. An older dog has much more to deal with being away from familiar surroundings. I've had so many beloved pets over the years. Watching them age is so painful. Sophie is fortunate to have you as her owner. Loved the London scenes and the flower show.

Hello Nicholas!
I would like to share a tip for getting moss to grow on your outside planters/ wall. All you need is buttermilk which you brush onto whatever surface
terracotta is good and then you take miss from the florist or some you come across on a walk, then you crumble it to help release its spores.
Keep the surface lightly moist and soon the new miss will be growing! This tip comes from
Martha Stewart, if you have success, it would be something to share with your viewers.
Its been 30+ years since Martha showed this on her show!

Consider this. Wire brass picture lights over each architectural print! It would spotlight them after dark and add a bit of light to that side of the room. Very sophisticated. Very metropolitan. It would look great!
Hello from Connecticut. What a nice thing to have in London, the Chelsea Flower Show. Wish you had more time to cover the exhibits etc. Maybe next year? It almost provided me with incentive to refurbish my own garden areas.....almost! I never noticed the two side lights before; I have to agree not sure what that style is. I think it outstanding that your subscribers are getting involved with you. Great that you are looking to the present as a bachelor...something that has been actually delayed...so embrace it and enjoy, Nick.

The flower show was absolutely stunning. I actually gasped out loud when I saw those cream colored roses ; just gorgeous and then the decorations outside the store fronts: magical, but my main concern selfishly was Sophie . I’m so ,so glad that she’s all right. Please give her a hug from me and I’m sending you a big hug too . I don’t comment all the time but I wait with great anticipation for every Sunday now. It makes it extra special to see you. I love your new style of sitting and just chatting because it just comes naturally to you I make videos for my job sometimes - it just happens to come easily to some people and you are fabulous. While visiting our daughter in London, my husband and I got the opportunity to go to the Chelsea Flower Show. It was beautiful. Our daughter gave us the directions so we took the underground and found our way. We had wonderful crepes at Ye Olde Dutch afterwards. On another visit, we went to the Hampton Court Flower Show with our daughter. Just beautiful. They have since moved back to the states and I really miss going to England. We were fortunate to tour all over England with them over the 16 years they lived there.

So happy to hear that Sophie is doing better !!! We had a Shih Tzu too, her name was "Pickles", she lived to 15 years old. We got her when she was 8 weeks old and she weighed only 3 lbs !! She had a cough too at one time or the other and the Vet prescribed the same thing. She lived a long and healthy life !! Sophie is so adorable, I love it when she is in your videos !!! Thank you for showing us around the Flower show, so beautiful !!

Mine were never able to be left with anyone either as it was too stressful for them. It is worse on them as they get older. I think you are being wise to consider her. Our fur babies are so much a part of our families. We had to say goodbye to our 13-year cat and I was devastated! I still look for her and it has been months. Enjoy your Sophie and don’t think of having to say goodbye.
