Back in September, Apple invited FiLMiC up on the big iPhone 11 event stage to show off something pretty damn incredible: multi-cam video capture.
It wasn’t quite ready to ship back then. But it is now.
I got to spend an hour or so talking to Filmic and watching their demos, and a couple days shooting with DoubleTake on my own.
And here are my first impressions!

One of the first times I saw your videos on TH-cam. I’m used to you’re audio only podcast versions. The quality makes the extra effort to view in TH-cam
Two years on and the doubletake app still only allows you to use two cameras and not four definitely would’ve preferred a 4K or at least 60 FPS option on this, but Film Pro seem to be blaming it on Apple. Oh well…
Thank you. I'm a new Studio TV Production teacher and it was a struggle this past semester- My students did mostly video projects but I want them to learn more in the multi-cam and production areas. They are using Chromebooks which aren't the best for my class but we're grinding still. I saw your video in my research for next school year. I subscribed. Thank you!

I love Filmic Pro, and am looking forward to these features being added. I really makes the iPhone 10 Pro a valuable camera.
I can’t wait for the next iPad Pro to have triple cameras. This feature will be perfect on a larger viewfinder.
This is off the charts COOL! I'd like to see the use of the volume buttons for starting and stopping recording.
Geez is this finally live!? I have been checking the app once a month since they previewed it. Going to get it now! I could use this for my videos so much! I might use picture in picture from time to time, even split screen, but the discreet mode is really I really want from this and then can edit as I choose!
Guess this free app is not live yet?? Can’t find it in the store.

One of my favorite features was the picture in picture recording on the Note 8. I'm the one always recording/taking photos so I'm not always in the picture. But with PIP I was able to get myself in the video. Unfortunately Samsung took it off with an OS update. Never put it back . This excites me and I'm so ditching my Note for the iPhone 12 just because this app.

I could have used this for my CES coverage, since I used my iPhone 11 Pro Max to capture everything.
I’m torn on this. On one hand I’m glad it finally came out, but on the other hand I spent $15 on Filmic Pro for a feature that they decided to make a separate free app.
It will be coming to the main app later this spring, and in a pro version.

Just strange. Watched on Mini and dled app from link. Never could find in app store on phone so opened this in TH-cam, used same link to dl to phone. I had even used the app name exactly. OTOH sent this vid to friend in Penang, Malaysia and he dled without issue from the link on his phone. We both have 11 Pro Max phones. BTW I am in NC, US
Not sure of applicability for me but quite cool. Tried all the possibilities and app worked seamlessly-even sent Message directly from app and then saved 2 vids as demos to Photo app.
FYI multicam it does work on the ipad pro 3rd gen (2018), to bad it doesn't work on the Iphone X
Please include the link (I see you did already for someone who commented) in your posted information because there are two “double take” apps that are not by filmic and I could not find the filmic one by including that name in search, only their very expensive old ones.

Rene didn't Apple advertise at their keynote in September that the 11 Pro could do 4K/60, all cameras, simultaneously?
No, alas. There was a bunch of confusion after the event with different coverage from different people, myself included. But, you can go back and watch the video of the keynote (I dide). They only mention two cameras and don't mention resolution or frame rate. But, the multicam API from iOS 13 is still limited to 1080p 30. I believe it's a pipeline thing. To process and sustain that much data needs a lot of power and generates a lot of heat.
@@vector3578 Thanks for the reply. I was just finishing up the section of Filmic Pro in the keynote and can confirm no such claims were made. Still, the ability of the multicams on smartphones is a great ability, even for now, capped at 1080p/30. Totally agree with you with the I/O pipes being the limiting factor, but I'm betting it's not a narrow piped as the Pixel 4.
@@Ghenosis Apple's done a ton of work on the imaging pipeline to get this far, I think others will have to worry less about snarky keynotes and more on silicon, color management, and real time to provide the same potential in the near future.

When I bought my Samsung Galaxy S8, I was able to do multiple camera recording too.
But after updating to the new Android version this was not possible anymore. I wrote Samsung,, how to do this again?
The answer: we removed this function, because we are always improving our system.

Love the content; always love the content but this camera angle makes me feel like you are trying to reach out and punch me with your hand movement. Had to pause the video to let you know lol, as I put on some protective headgear and continue watching the rest of it as this was the update we’ve all been waiting for! It’s available everywhere. I just downloaded it and am in Uganda.
This app is almost useless then. Aside from the selfie and rear facing option. You can get almost the exact same effect by just shooting one mode in 4k60 and then cropping in on one of those shots.
Sure not optically the same thing (possibly better) but this would be the only way to get 2 cams at once with more than 30fps.
Frankly I don’t see the point of this API when it’s so limited.
1080p 24fps isn’t good enough.
I thought the point of the 12pro was that it had a
Faster internal storage so that the cameras could dump their video streams fast enough to enable this feature.
Just.. Wow.
So Apple Demo’d this to show the prowess of the A13 series chip and now they turn around and limit their API’s to 1080 cause of processing power, including on the newest devices!?!

Well this is all feckIng disappointing. Anything less than the full quality of the video cameras is useless to me and not ‘pro’ at all. (Ie, I can’t use this feature professionally. Which I had planned to)
