    Steve, that tool is for driving rods up to 1" dia. into the ground. Example: electrical ground rods, or it could be used for pounding holes in my wife's homemade doughnuts. I've got to get up earlier Sunday mornings. Most everybody has beat me to the punch. From now on I'm getting up at 2:00 AM to watch your video. Steve, it's 9:00 am and half a dozen guys have commented 7 hours ago. That don't leave much wiggle room to be first. But the "Tie goes to the runner". Just having fun. KIT d

    Very creative! For those of us who don't have all the tools, I used my Bosch SDS hammer drill to drive rebar stakes simply using an existing bit and a short piece of PVC pipe as a sleeve. I just held the pipe in my hand and controlled the drill with the other.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea Ron , we'll done ✔

    • @makerspersona5456
      @makerspersona5456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there,
      I’m very keen to try this too as I don’t currently have a welder. Could you give some more details on how you built this? Was the pipe closed with a fitting? Did you attach a drill bit to the pvc pipe?

    • @ronroberts8036
      @ronroberts8036 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@makerspersona5456 Much simpler! Nothing to fabricate. I just cut a piece of PVC a few inches shorter than my bit, slipped it over the rebar a few inches, inserted the bit from above (attached to the Bosch). So at this point the pipe (say 6" long) is containing both the rebar and the bit, keeping them both in line with each other. I hold the pipe in one hand and the roto-hammer in the other. Pull the trigger and the hammer starts driving the rebar. As the rebar is being driven, I keep lowering the pipe and the hammer until the pipe is touching the surface of whatever I am driving the rebar into, (in my case it was a railroad tie. Now the rebar has a couple inches or so to go, and the hammer drives it the rest of the way. As long as the pipe is shorter than the bit/chisel/whatever, it will drive the rebar the rest of the way, or even deeper until the chuck meets the pipe. The pipe is just a simple sleeve to keep the bit and rebar in line so the bit doesn't bounce off to the side. The diameter of the pip should be just enough for the bit or the rebar to fit into, which ever is larger. Hope that helps!

    • @makerspersona5456
      @makerspersona5456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ronroberts8036 that’s genius thanks. Would you mind sharing a link to the bit you used? Also what size pvc if you don’t mind?

    Why flux core instead of shieldgass?

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir you're correct, my first try will be with rebar. I have been using flux core for many years and it's a bit smoky but far more penetration than with regular mig wire and I can use it in windy conditions without the need for a bottle of gas. The wire is more expensive but works great for what I do. Sheet metal and bodywork stay with a bottle. Cheers buddy
