How does the fly wheel system fire in two different angles without moving? And what is the gear ratio on the fly wheel? Ours always burns out or doesn’t shoot far enough.
After firing a ball the flywheel RPM naturally drops as energy has been transferred to the ball. We use this to quickly fire a second ball at a lower RPM which results in a lower height for the second shot. If your flywheel is burning out that's likely a problem with too much friction, or an overly fast ratio (possibly a bit of both). We run our flywheel at around 2200 RPM with 2 motors. If your shots aren't firing far enough even with a high RPM you need to work on tuning your hood.
@@Goldfish21049 Awesome, well done. Nice to see NZ robotic still being awesome. We've got UK nationals next week with our 3 teams in it, not quite ready...
@Rahul Bhati Paul Thompson, it was almost over 20 years ago that I was a student there, left in 96. Is Mr Bryan a DT teacher? The name rings a bell. As a teacher I started the Roarbotix team at MAGS in 2007 before I left for the UK a few years later.
Is the accurately launching two balls successively at two different heights with a single flywheel achieved with programming or some fine tuned mechanical device? I'm interested.
Love the "platform tapping" thing you guys do. Absolute meme. What's the reason for your cap flipper to pull back when shooting though? I see it has a mechanism that pulls a string...
its's basically an indexer that pulls back then the cap flipper hits a bar on a pivot. This pulls on a string connected to a piece of plastic. This is so they don't shoot accidentally.
@@benrichard6578 Indexers are basically used to move a ball into contact with the flywheel. If the indexer was chained to the rest of the intake, it would be easy to accidently shoot balls while trying to intake other balls.
It allows compression to be where it needs to be, even if one baller is somehow more hard than another. Big use in NbN, but I can see why you would use it here

I was wondering, our season just ended for my team, placing second at the Washington State Middle School Championship. We will be transitioning to high school and want to look the best. We obviously want an amazing notebook but are the videos worth it? Do judges look at them? Or are they just for fun?
Judges won't look at videos ever. Just focus on having a good notebook. Reveal videos are a lot of fun to make, and are a great way to get people to know your team number. Apart from that the reveals won't help you at all.
Not too great, this was one of the problems we had with this robot. The weight distribution of the robot made parking pretty bad (and the 3.25" wheels certainly didn't help). We could park, but it took far longer than it really should have.
Damn, this can easily go toe to toe with some great v5 robots.
The last of the v4 gods.
lol they tried to make v5 with v4, the 8 motor drive xD
I absolutely love HQ and am super proud of what you've done even with the older system. You'd give us a run for our money. Can't wait for Lossless!

Oh boi
Our flywheel doesn’t slow down enough to hit both the top and middle flags, is this done with programming?
No, they do it via a mechanical brake :)
PID loop
Your bot looks amazing! One question, though. How did you flip the cap at :21?
To be honest, we're not quite sure how it works. However, it's insanely reliable and better than any cap flipper we've built this season.
Lossless eh? If you're going to bounce the balls back into the robot without using the intake, I assume the flywheel is going to go

Videos are for clout purposes only. Just be better than everyone lese and ur fine
Is the move at 2:20 legal by the rules?
Yes
how does your flywheel work?
I mean how can you shoot 2 balls at different speeds so quickly, and what makes the flywheel slow down? in the code?
We do use code to assist the slowdown, however, most of it happens simply from the energy transferring from the flywheel to the first ball.
No as explained earlier in the comments, this is done via a mechanical brake
@@sillysock45 I'm pretty new to robotics, could you explain how the mechanical brake works?
