Hollywood was notorious for cutting and rewriting Broadway musicals for various reasons -- to try and fit them in an under 2 hours time frame, to vehicalize them for a particular star, because it was felt that too many ballads slowed down the pace of a film, or sometimes just because some producer or director didn't happen to like a song, or as in the case of "On The Town", the entire score. The 1950 film version of "Annie Get Your Gun" was very much a truncated version of the original show.
Why, oh why, did MGM cut this song from the film? I know Betty Hutton would have done it justice, and can only imagine hearing Judy Garland sing it if she'd made the movie.
And I'll bet the reason "A New Town Is A Blue Town" was cut from the film version of THE PAJAMA GAME is, Warner Bros. didn't want to offend all the folks in all those towns that fit the lyrics' description to a T -- as for example this overgrown Podunk "New, Blue Town" in which I reside! And can only imagine that Cole Porter turned green with his shows after Hollywood got finished cutting them to pieces.

I wondered the same thing myself earlier today - when I watched clips from the movie - then read the song list on Wikipedia.

Orchestrations are amazing, but I prefer the simple intimate way the songs supposed to be sung
