There's a good documentary film titled 'Somm' that covers this the study/training aspect well. Basically, it's daily tasting for hours, sometimes alone and other times with others who are candidates. In a sense, it's like a full-time job. There are three subsequent films of the the 'Somm' series.

Peter and Patrick's previous appearances on another channel were what got me into wine in the first place. I've learned so much about wine in the last couple of years and I've just signed up to do WSET 2. Thanks so much for bringing them back to us!

After watching this video my wife and I did the same exercise with sparkling wines: Champagne, Cava, Prosecco, Asti and Sekt. First open label and then blind... it was really fun!
    Thanks again for the video.

To me, it was felt that the class was for beginner to intermediate. Highly educational and enjoyable, and I always look forward to watching Wine Newbie Class of this TH-cam.

Here the pleasant is combined with the educational in an accessible and playful way. Thanks to Patrick, who seems to have a gift for this. This is a very useful video for every level. The newcomer is taking his or her first steps in blind tasting. And the experienced wine lover goes back to base. To also read about the grape varieties and their regions of origin, sounds like music to me! This lays the foundation for well-understanding wine tasting. Applaus!

Fundamental but priceless lecture! Enjoying good videos and hopefully want to hear more about how to distinguish and evaluate wines with same grape but from different areas around the world. Pinot noir from US vs France is easy for me but Sauvignon blanc from US vs France or Zin from US vs Italy is still challenging for me for example. Thanks as always!

Thanks Patrick, Ellie and of course Min. I very much enjoyed the format of the class. I would say was beginning but approaching a more experienced beginner who's serious. I love the sound of the taste of the last German named wine. Lychee sounds like such a delicious and refreshing flavour.

I love the description of wine flavors. I wine taste with friends who, when I describe flavors and aromas you describe, look at me with blank stares. Then I realized they spent their lives behind a desk. They never hiked and they never experienced life. How do I make my friends appreciate wine from when they don’t know what wet stones, forest floor, almonds or cut grass taste/smell like?

I really enjoyed and learned a lot from the video. Thank you so much!
Professor Patrick, following the episode on French white wines, what do you think about introducing Italian white wines? I believe there’s nothing as enjoyable and exciting as Italian whites. Especially the wines from the Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli-Venezia-Giulia regions, that is, the northern Italian white wines, which I think are perfect for enjoying in the summer. However, it’s unfortunate that Italian whites are not very popular in Korea, making them difficult to find, and as a result, very few people know about them properly. How about taking this opportunity to showcase the hidden gems of Italian white wines to Koreans through your lecture? As a lover of Italian whites in Korea, I’m making this heartfelt request!

I love the videos. As a wine student myself I would like a little extra information on the 'why'. For example you mention minerality, or wool, or stone - but why does this occur? I can assume its terroir, but interested to know what makes a variety unique from other varieties. Talking of terroir, when tasting these 4 it would be interesting to know other factors that differentiate these 4 varieties beyond the grape - the soil, climate and any other region specific information!

In English, for teachers which is master of wines
We should learn in Luberon or Luberon AOP
because it has uni blanc, Vermentino as like Italy and it has GSM as like Rohne, and it has rose like Provinece.
We can learn one area for three different things
