See My Setup In Action On Crete in Greece. I just dropped a new episode for season 5 of my adventures: th-cam.com/video/LtauiHnYDzM/w-d-xo.html Check it out.
Thumbs up on the video for the cold shoe 3m attachment...I'm trying to prep a setup for my new helmet and thinking of a bunch of ways to setup dji before i drop that kind of money. I think slapping it on the side of the helmet is just such and obvious solution no one thinks about.
Thanks Jay, yeah I know. I went around and around trying to figure this out and then it hit me when I was using a flash on my DSLR - and nowhere near my bike! Thanks my friend! Cheers!
Glad I could help! Yeah, flip ups have their challenges when it comes to mounting cameras and audio/mics. Check toward the end of my series My Greek Tragedy (Ep 3) when I'm finally on the bike in Crete. You can hear the set up in action…though the audio is good the camera angle due to the chin mount wasn't perfect in this episode -Episodes 4 & 5 (still editing them as of Feb 2023) to follow with more Multicam set ups and better angles. Cheers!
Thanks Correy, glad I could help you sort through some of this stuff. The best part is the internal memory of the DJI Mic - makes this very simple. Check the end of my Greek Tragedy Ep 3 when I'm finally on the bike in Crete. You can hear the set up in action-Episodes 4 & 5 to follow with more Multicam set ups. Cheers!
Glad u showed that cold shoe adhesive mount a year ago, i been rocking it w/ the dji mic and its been so nice... now this dji mic isnt pushing against my mouth inside the helmet....
In my Schuberth flip-up modular helmet, there is absolutely no room for adhering the cold shoe, let alone the microphone. But I did try to clip the DJI mic to the chin curtain in a previous test just a few weeks before I made this video. I rode out to Santa Ysabel, Julian, and the mountains east of San Diego-you can see how it wasn't the best solution, but some more fun video: th-cam.com/video/R5chZJKpb3w/w-d-xo.html
Very cool set up, like the DJI stuff alot Just did a 10K km ride with 2 bikes with Rode Wireless Go on each and got sync audio on 1 Gopro. Still working on the ideal setup, this dji idea helps
Hey Serge, thanks for tuning in! Yeah, I have the original Wireless Go from Rode and have used that on my bicycle-but never tried it on the motorbike. Ideally I would like to see support from DJI or GoPro to allow audio connection via Bluetooth from a SENA or Cargo system-I know that's a big ask but it can't be THAT difficult?!!! Happy the video and setup inspired you in some way! Cheers!
The #1 issue I have with putting the dji mic on the outside of the helmet is that if you get caught in the rain. They aren't very waterproof. But love all the ideas thus far. Keep up the great work. Ride safe.
Great video, thx!! New subscriber! I have been looking to finalize my audio set up because I have a modular/transformer helmet ( ls2 valiant 2) and hadn't figured how to cleanly do my audio. Thanks so much!👍👍
Thanks for the sub! Glad I could help you figure a way to capture audio - Check the end of my Greek Tragedy Ep 3 when I'm finally on the bike in Crete. You can hear the set up in action-Episodes 4 & 5 to follow with more Multicam set ups. Cheers!
Hey Viajante. The first thing I do when I start recording I beep the horn on the motorcycle three times. (if you're not riding a motorcycle you can clap your hands three times.) This will make a nice blip in the audio waveform. I could easily then line up those blips between audio and video files. But even better, I use Final Cut Pro (FCPX) to edit my videos. So what I do is make a Multicam clip (feature in FCPX) and there is a selection that says "Use Audio For Synchronization." I select this option and FCPX easily finds those horn beeps and syncs the audio. Perhaps I'll produce a quick editing video to show this visually and audibly! Oh, and I keep the setting at 0dB because the microphone is inside the helmet I've tested it, and works great. Thanks for tuning in!
are you not using rocksteady in the DJI camera? it looks pretty shaky and pretty wide, like I can't use it for my bike because it's so tight it only captures my speedometer.
Yeah, it's on, but there are two RS settings and one has the tighter crop, as you've used, I've played with it since and on other vids from riding Crete and Albania in other more recent videos once I settled on the audio system. Thanks for dropping by!
what volume level are you setting the DJI mic to? I have a lav in a helmet going into a DJI mic but I need to dip it to -12db bc of how close the lav is to my mouth, otherwise I get dirty distortion and peaking
Hey Eric, interestingly, I'm set at 0, and LAV is attached to the SENA boom, and the helmet is relatively quiet, and there can be some mild distortion, but it is not bothersome IMHO, since we're on a ride - recently, I started using the new Schubert E3 helmet which has a built-in SENA Comm system - so I've been playing with using the mic inside the helmet with the same mounting but attached to the Chin bar, the modular part, and keeping the setting at 0 again and having good results. It's been a bit sketchy, though, as if I push my chin forward and open and close my mouth, there's a chance of moving that DJI Mic and I almost lost it while I was in Morocco recently. So, I continue experimenting! Thanks for tuning in!
I'm using the same setup to film my holiday rides in Europe. I use a full face helmet and it's awesome. It seems like your chin camera has the image warmth set to auto. You might want to set it to 5600K to have the same look for every shot😁
Thanks for the color temp tip! I actually now have changed cameras, the new Hero while this video had my old 7 hero. So you are using the DJI Mic???? Please tell me more! And are you using a Lav connected to the mic? Two cameras? Very curious as sharing these ideas are great for everyone! Ride Safe and Greetings from Tirana!
@@worldrider yes I'm using the DJI mic and a hero 10. I've designed and 3d-printed a clip so the DJI transmitter is clipped to the side of the helmet and the receiver is mounted on the handbar to keep an eye on the audio levels. I connect a lav mic which is inside the helmet. I use a agptek lav mic, it's not the best but it is for sure the best bang for the buck. It does come with a rather long cable. So hiding the wire inside the helmet is a bit of a pain
@@MrNielz1 Ahhh got it! Makes sense. I like that you use the receive on the handlebars, I'm guessing you simply capture the audio on the Mic's built in memory like I do and the handlebar mount is simply to keep an eye on those levels. And yes, I use a Rode Lav, not cheap, not expensive and I tucked it under the windscreen for the SENA 30S, I still have too much cable, but it is working out! Thanks for clarifying. Good stuff!
Hey there, thanks for tuning in. This method wouldn't work for capturing audio between a partner (pillion) or through a group using same communicator (SENA). I do know another ride who uses two microphones with a splitter and attaches one microphone near the speaker in his helmet, so that picks up the audio from partner and/or group. He then has the other microphone for communicating. There's another Vlogger, Chris Smith with @MotoPhotoAdventures does this but I'm not sure of his set up. Check it out, tell him WorldRider sent you!!!
I appreciate the video--I run a GoPro 7 with a Squid omnidirectional mic up in my helmet--works pretty good, but I want to use the wireless DJI mic. I still haven't figured out just yet. Thanks for the video--gave me some ideas. Subbed!
I am learning all th Betim ere vlogging i ride with a flip lid wish you had lifted the lid and let us hear sound then. I ride lots of the time with flip up I too did what you have done but use Ride wireless go 2 they work great BUT NOT WATERPROOF and it pisses it down here in UK !! But im now looking at another idea i have i like it super tidy and y first test is how to use two go pros one facing me one on my chin i think i just trie the chesty mount but its a crap angle an feels all wrong. Trouble is on main camera which will b eon my chin I think when i lift it up and ride it will be looking at the sky! So guess i have to hope second camera on handle bars facing me will capture my lips etc and then its chop an edit i think? It would be nice if helmet makers made an optional vlogers version at extra cost Id Be up for it.Ill keep testing till i get it right o rain it! Thanks for the video.
Yeah, I don't ride with the flip up open. I don't think the DJI Mics are water proof either. It's still too big to fit in the helmet itself, but I'll bet if you made some mods inside the helmet you could get it to fit, I just didn't try that. Good luck! Yeah, I use two cameras often on the road. You can see a chin camera facing out and a camera on the windscreen facing me in this video from Crete th-cam.com/video/LtauiHnYDzM/w-d-xo.html
Yeah, it's not cheap, for sure. But if you put it to use and think of how much time it can save you on other tasks, it's well worth it. I don't only use it for moto vlogging, I am using it in other videos I create too!
Thanks for the video! Just got the DJI Mic myself. I guess the YT algorithm is the Tinder to link pros like you with hobbyists! Looking forward to view your videos! Did you ride in Iceland? I see bikers there all the time. All the best!
Cool, thanks! Yeah, funny how those algorithms connect the dots, huh!? Yes, I did ride in Iceland - but we were filming a TV show at the same time, so a lot of start and stop. I would like to go back and be on a looser schedule. Thanks for tuning in and good luck with that new DJI Mic-it's awesome!

That self-adhesive cold shoe mount is a game changer. Thank you.
Agreed! I was amazed to find these. Thanks for your kind words!
Sounds good. I'm using the dgi mic too.
Awesome, are you using it in the same manner? Inside the helmet?
@@worldrider yes, inside the helmet with velcro. Sounding great!
Sounds good, @@Fourwedge - velcro is another great solution! Cheers and safe riding!
I decided to go with the DJI system as well for my motovlogs because of the backup audio storage. Perfect solution. 👍🏼
Good choice! It is a great solution. So much cleaner!

I live in San Diego too!! Wouldn't the sound be better if you used the transmitter mic? Putting the adhesive shoe inside the helmet?

how do you sincronize the audio with the video? I have troubles to sincronize it. What is the settings of decibel , -6 for example?
