I have both as well! Although my targa is a 1976. More of a Sunday driver than a track weapon. The BW, however, is a track weapon and it's hilarious hunting down and passing sports cars!
Thank you. You’re saying more than an opinion: The Blackwing *IS* the emotional choice. The Targa is more of a cerebral choice. One makes more sense, and one makes me FEEL better. Interesting reply. Thanks again.
@@BlackwingDan It is overall the more attractive vehicle to me (subjectively), I like its looks better, then it is way more practical and versatile and perfectly fit to be used as a daily driver. Then knowing the reliability of American V8 engines in general, especially compared to German high performance offerings which are rather unreliable and very costly on maintenance and can give you a lot of headaches and owner troubles, I easily would choose the Cadillac in that regard as well. Further there is the manual transmission on the Cadillac, you just don‘t get a near 700 hp luxury super sport sedan (if any vehicle type at all for that matter) with a manual transmission anywhere else. This part in particular should also secure the Cadillac a very special status and will have it become a well sought after collectors item eventually, so it can be considered investment grade. Then, Cadillac has really made great strides in general overall in recent years and has restored its glory, grandeur , allure and brand prestige. It features premium materials inside out, and its build quality also is second to none, lastly its infotainment is certainly much more stable, user friendly, liveable and simply better than that of VW/Porsche. Admittedly this is just me assuming now, because I haven‘t had the pleasure of getting my hands on a Cadillac, but I do know late model Porsches/Audi/VWs, so that is where that part is coming from. I could continue, but since it is already quite lenghty, I hope you have received a satisfying insight as a response with regard to your request my good American Sir. Best regards to you.
I have both. The Porsche is so dynamically proficient it is always an amazing drive, but the Blackwing is so much more entertaining…you said it, you can’t help smiling - rowdy as you want it, and viscerally more engaging…can’t stop making beautiful music from the engine exhaust note and the manual is a treat. The Porsche attracts unwanted attention, the Blackwing flies under the radar.
Thanks for saying so. I’ll do at least three more, including a lot of info that seemingly no one else is talking about. So please stay tuned. Thanks again.
Dan, as much as I love the Cadillac, I would keep the heritage targa Porsche. You have something very special! I’ve seen dozens of CTS-V’s here in ATL. I have yet to see a Heritage Targa Porsche, even at my local Porsche dealer. Thank you for a great comparison. I have subscribed!
Thank you so much for that valuable real-life input. I’m taking all thoughtful responses and/or recommendations seriously: It’s a serious matter. It sounds like you’re more appreciative of rarity and resale value, over day-to-day driving and grocery-hauling. If that’s true, then I wonder if your opinion would be the same if it WASN’T a Heritage Edition? Would that fact level the playing field? Or you’d still keep the Targa?
@ I would keep the Porsche even if it was not a heritage edition. Now, my opinion is very subjective because my lifestyle does not require four doors and tons of space. Either way, it’s a tough decision. Which car would hurt less letting go,it’s going to hurt regardless, lol. BTW, in the future, please do a video on how you acquired your Heritage targa. Many people don’t know how difficult it is to get a Porsche allocation for a limited 911.
Yes, sir. That’s my plan. I’m going to do an in-depth video on each car, and the acquisition journey will be a part of both videos. Teaser: Part of how I got the Heritage Targa, is because of my law suit against American Honda involving a 2019 NSX - my former track/daily.
Not even close, the 911 will hold its value if driven and go up if miles kept really low. The Caddie, is amazing but its only going to lose value and these engines have been having issues and wouldn't want that supercharged V8 after warranty. The market for 911's is insane and this Heritage is limited to 992 units only, very rare car especially with lots of 911's going hybrid. I'd daily the Caddie and drive the snot out of it while it's under warranty and sell it once it's done and find the next fun daily. The 911 should be kept for special days when the weather is perfect. KEEP THE 911, if you're keeping 1 car. If you can afford the 911 then you can afford a reasonable daily. I just bought a 2025 BMW M4cs and drive a cheap Audi A3 around town, $350per month for the 2024 A3 with all the tech, 4doors, AWD, all season tires, perfect for the winter, while my M4cs with summer tires hibernates for the winter.
Good stuff, Yukon. Thank you so much for your opinion. Porsche made 55,000 911’s in 2023, and 42,000 in 2022, with ~10,500 of those being sold in the USA annually. Cadillac made 1,800 CT-5-BW’s in 2023. You’re right that my specific 911 is very rare, but you gotta admit that if Caddy stops making the BW (and good Lord, how much longer can they get away with that, given manufacturer’s efficiency mandates?!?!), the BW is going to become a collector car. If the Caddy does NOT become collectible, then you’ve got a great plan: Daily and track the Caddy, then sell it and get another ‘beater. That’s another strong argument to keep the Targa. Thank you. My next video is almost ready. It’s all about the BW: “Things they don’t tell you.” After that, a deep dive on the Targa. Please stay tuned.
Which do you feel compelled to drive first when you first walk into the garage? To me it looks like you may already prefer the Blackwing as there wasn't acceleration clip of the 911 included in the video as part of the argument for it lol
Keen observation and analysis. Truth is, though, no: I haven’t made up my mind yet. And I’ve got Porsche-only content coming, so please stay tuned. I’m going to do at least two more videos, telling you all the points - good and bad - that somehow are missed by reviewers. I’m going to do that for the BW, too. Thanks very much for the comment.
This is not a simple decision. I've never driven the ct5, and I'm actually curious to drive it. I do have a 992 gt3 touring with a 6 speed, and the sounds, vibrations, and engagement with the transmission are unbelievable. If your porsche is the pdk, then I may say to keep the ct5 although I am a porsche lover, and I love the heritage spec with the targa. But real driver engagement with a 6.2l v8, a manual, is very hard to argue against.
….and THAT’S what makes the decision even harder: The Porsche is a manual, too. It’s such a hoot to engage those gears with the targa top down on a summer day on a twisty road with my beautiful wife by my side and a picnic lunch in the frunk. The Caddy evokes completely different but equally compelling emotions. Maybe more so. Tough decision. Please stay tuned for my “here’s what they don’t tell you” videos about both cars. THANKS for your reply.
@BlackwingDan In this case, my humble opinion would be to keep the porsche. Although I haven't driven the BW, I think, like you said, there are a few easy mods, including exhaust, which can really enhance the 911. The interior fit and finish and design, in my opinion, are also much better than the Caddi. I had a turbo S before my gt3, and I put an akrapovic exhaust on it. It sounded amazing! To summerize my opinion, I think the porsche is altogether a more special car and given that it's a manual, the engagement is also there and the porsche manuals are fantastic.
As an owner of a 23 CT5 BW and a 997.2, If you can only have one car the Caddy is the ONLY choice. 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, top speed of 200+, can actually get it in a 6Sp MT, PDR, Alpha chassis, plus car . I can drive the BW harder than I can my 911 however They do drive differently so you need to account for that, and if after driving hard for hours on end I can flip it into touring mode and take it easy and can get 40+ MPG for hundreds of miles.Oh and if I need to carry kids I can complete with legs ;-)
Always a bonus when you don’t have to separate appendages from torsos. 😁 after I make my next two videos - one on the BW and one on the Porsche - I would like to hear your thoughts. One more vote for the mighty Blackwing!!!
Thank you. I will be posting separate in-depth videos for each car. I will get into lots of details…SOME of which are actually important! Thanks again.
Man, you are SO right. It happened to me several times until I got used to the clutch. And going to-and-from the Porsche’s manual transmission from day to day, just makes it harder. With the Porsche, all you do is engage the clutch, and it restarts immediately. REALLY immediately. Best in the business, I think. Brilliant safety feature. That’s the one thing Stuttgart does better than TREMEC. Maybe the ONLY thing.
I’m at a crossroads with the 911. I was thinking of trading my Cayman GTS 4.0 plus 100k for a new 911. Or keep the Cayman add the 2025 BW manual and have two cars?
The bad news is how difficult that choice is. The good news is that man, thems be some First-World Problems! Congrats for being in such a sweet predicament. I can offer a few tidbits. First is what you probably already know: The rear seats are seats in name only in a 911….But they ABSOLUTELY change how you utilize the car. My wife made me buy three 40-lb bags of mulch and 6 plants at the landscaper. It all (and she) fit in the car. And if you get a targa, then the practicality is doubled. Plus it looks cooler than a coupe, I think. As to the BW: PLEASE don’t get one until you see this: th-cam.com/video/IL74pQP4KVk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qHALv7mEFguZSOFb. Also watch both of the Savage Geese CT5-V BW reviews. Both are excellent. I hope you let me know what you choose. Thanks for watching, Trig!
@. I didn’t realize the practicality of that Targa. I just wish you can configure the rear wheel drive version with manual and that would the choice. However the BW is just a super sedan/cruiser I could fit 4 comfortably and just track the Cayman. But man I really do wish to own a 911 one day. It’s been on my mind since I was 16. I saw a brand new 993 911 turbo parked at the grocery store I was working at. 😍
I try not to make these super difficult choices. That’s why I have both. Actually, two of each at 22 and a 23 Cadillac, both six speed manual, and a 2023 and a 2011 GT3 RS.
Just noticed your avatar is an NSX. Do you have one? I bought and tracked (infrequently) a 2019 NSX and its demise resulted in my acquisition of the Heritage Targa.

I also include some helmet-cam video of a Trackday in that car. But if you’re talking a NA1/NA2, then yeah, a really fine example might cost you! I sure hope you get one. EITHER model is an amazing car…just in different ways. PS: My buddy’s license plate on his NA2 NSX, is “FOR SENNA”. How awesome is that??!!??!!
I would keep the Porsche. Class, refinement, exclusivity, higher residual retention. The Porsche is the apogee of ICE engineering and the standard to which all others are compared. I love the caddy too, but I'd still take the Porsche.
You got that right. The caddy is a small block PUSH ROD. All the highest technology…..from 1978. But man, did you HEAR that thing? You gotta admit, the Porsche sounds like a sewing machine in comparison.
The fact that I even had to think about it for a second says a lot about the Caddy. Normally, this wouldn't even be in question. It'd be 911 without a doubt.
Thank you for that opinion. You’re obviously as much of a 911 fan as I am, but what makes you give the BW such little consideration? Is it because it doesn’t handle like a 911? If that’s why, then bro, I’ve got some eye-opening info for you.
@BlackwingDan oh, quite contrary. I'm sure the magna ride is awesome. I was trying to express how good the Blackwing is. In the past it wouldn't even be a question, the choice of the 911 would be automatic .And actually being a resident here in the states, I'd probably pick the Caddy, as it would be much cheaper to maintain. Way more bang for the buck.
Probably best to keep the 911 as it will maintain its value better, especially since it's a Heritage Edition. The Blackwing resale value won't keep up with the 911.... just MHO.
You really think so? Just yesterday, Matt from The Smoking Tire said “you can probably drive a CT5-V Blackwing manual for like 10 years basically for free…” but you’re right: 911’s - ESPECIALLY the Targas - really do hold their value.
@@BlackwingDanI think both would be great to hold on to. Obviously the heritage edition 911 targa will go up in value, but I believe the BW will as well, especially with companies going away from V8's. In my opinion, the CT5 BW might just be the best American made sedan ever. Great taste in cars Sir, enjoy!
