Thanks for doing this series. I just started playing couple days ago and started feeling overwhelmed but this is helping me figure what order I should be doing things!
Hey man, thank you so much for the series. I just started playing and your guide is helping a ton with understanding the game. I’m all caught up now and feel kind of lost hahah! Is the next video coming out soon? Cheers mate
I've known about this game for a long time, but never got around to playing it. I just started earlier this week, and was a little lost at first, but, i found your guide and its really helped me. Its also nice to hear a fellow Scotsman doing this. Also, as a little side note, im playing on console, and most of the journeys recognise other journey actions you may have done previously.
I am learning something new in each of these video's. Were all those noob river iron nodes were is quite helpful. My first base on a pub PVE server is very near the sentinels and I had no idea there were that many nodes there. I would make my way up from the dregs towards sepermeru and there are plenty of iron nodes there. These, however, are much closer for a newer player to start off with. Thanks for the very well done videos. I will be watching the rest for sure.
I played on day 1 for a couple of years before quitting for a bit. Just picked it back up, and am very glad for the updated guide. I am playing along just to get a hold of everything again. Thanks!
It's under "Smithing" because the Armor Bench assists the smith with armorsmithing. A smith who specializes in making armor is an armorsmith, in weapons a weaponsmith, in horse shoes, a farrier, etc.
Love the content and really appreciate how you have kept up with this over years. When I come back to the game after long breaks I always check out your guides. Crazy how different the beginning experience is depending on where you set up shop from the tutorial area. I rush straight down the river to the north and set up shop on the overhand by the croc world boss there next to the bandit camp and from there I head east to the stone ship and setup a more permanent base on the cliffs. Completely different experiences from your vids and I look forward to trying out your path on my new playthrough.
I've been looking for a new survival game to play, and this looks really awesome and after watching your guide I bought it to play along. I did get a bit of a giggle out of the fact you kept forgetting to pick the new Journey and would get halfway through showing us what to do without getting the progress! 😅
Learning the basics is good. I'd recommend going into full carry weight later when building base. Also, if your running a agility build use bow/arrow to soften up target first.
Thanks for doing these beginner videos, though i have played for quite awhile now i think the beginnings of the game are still a lot of fun. If you run up the hill towards the exile cave but instead of the cave turn left and go to the giant tree. Then face north and climb up to the foot of the cliff, there is a good amount of ironstone up there to add to your loop. Good luck :)

Great episode; I always forget about the iron nodes next to the boss Croc. Well, guess I am going to have to figure out the doge. I have the combos and blocking down for strength weapons. However, I am really bad at the doge and agility weapon combos.
New sub here, love the content so far, helped me out a bunch.. I only have a few hours in game… damn 12 hour shifts hinder my gaming 🤣🤣 now I’m trying to find coal… wherever that is 😒🤣
Hey Angaar ! I'm brand new to the game. I started a follow-a-long campaign with this playlist yesterday and just finished the starter base on the hill. Something funny is happening though. Those 2 Hyena pups run up the hill, by my front door, and get stuck going around the corner. And... it happens about every 30 minutes. I'm going to have a huge pack when I get a taming pen ! lol Have a good one my friend ! ~Mu
Without doubt the best beginners guide I have ever come across. I hadn't played for a while, but now I'm back to playing again. I still don't understand what DLC does, besides new attributes, do we get more maps? or are more zones added to the original map?
So the new attributes, etc is just the updated standard game. The DLC you can buy are just cosmetic building/armour/weapon sets to give a different look to your buildings/gear/etc. The only DLC that gives another map is the Isle of Siptah DLC.
@ 31:13 you said dry wood wasn't as good as coal. It actually burns longer than coal by about 20 seconds in a regular furnace. If I remember right it was 55 seconds for dried wood and 37 seconds for coal.
I just mean it is easier to get loads of coal from a few nodes, while lot harder to get loads of dry wood, unless you use a drier, which still needs a bunch of wood and bark as fuel. While a couple of coal nodes from an iron run will quickly give you more coal than you will ever need 😂
I remember times when I got Beast of Burden perk. Was carrying literally tens of thousands of iron back to base. Per one trip. Also I think its actually makes sense the opposite regarding burning wood - fresh wood should burn slower because it still has water in it, while dry wood shoul burn faster well because its dry. never used dry wood as fuel though, its somewhat rare and used for something important later. Can make dry wood at Dryer station, too, but it needs to be unlocked first and is somewhat mid-game.
It's not mid-game. I started my game the day the day episode 1 came out, and I've got the dryer yesterday. Was doing whatever journeys I could waiting for episode two. I only hit level twenty today, I think. Level 22, atm.
I like ve your videos! Me personally I try to improve the gathering tools first. That way I can upgrade the rest quicker. But your videos are great nonetheless.
Other than needing hide to be turned into thick hide, you get more leather for your reptile hide by just putting it in the tannery by itself. You get 2 leather for every reptile hide, whereas you get 3 hide for 2 reptile hides and only 1 leather per 3 hides so for leather production you actually half your amount if you strip it. Also, dried wood is better than coal for furnaces, it is the same as oil actually.
@@AngaarUK of course, however small tip, use your pick on the dry trees for super amounts of bark, set up 3 or 4 drying racks and create dry wood passively for fuel since you get 2 dried wood and one resin for each piece of wood. Then you can make insulated wood with half and use the other half for fuel in the furnaces.
I feel bad for killing shellback 😂 so i harvest hide from ogres. Ty for tut just got the game n enjoy the videos hitting branches with hatchet was a great trick. Might get into online one day.
So as far as armorer being under smithing, armor is made by armorsmiths. Weaponsmiths for melee weapons, aerosmiths for bows and arrows, blacksmiths for generic iron tools and goods etc.
This is a very good guide, thank you! I haven't played since the Architects of Argos Pack came out about three years ago and the game has changed quite a bit. Can you list what mod or mods you are running please, all I see so far is your UI mod but wasn't sure if you were running anything else.
Yeah, I forgot to discuss the mod I added, will do that in Ep.3. The only mod I use is Hosav's Custom UI mod, just gives some more detail and adds the option of a mini-map, so no gameplay changes.
I always go g5 to farm iron and f5 and f6 for more iron and plenty of coal to use as fuel and since im by f6 i just follow the river up a bit more and kill Boss croc there then came back to my home near the other boss croc and always get 2 legendary weapons everytime i go for a iron/coal run 😅
18:40 Are you sure about that? People reported me from testing that durability goes down only when you use repair kits. If you maintain your equipment via repairs with crafting materials, your equipment should last forever. Or did my contacts made a mistake?
True! durability gets lower if you use repair kits (it makes a red bar at the end of durability). To be honest, they should have left the legendaries repairable it that is the case and maybe make so that you could repair them like 2 or 3 times untill can't anymore. Makimg legendaries unrepairable doesn't make sense, i mean you can sharpen a wepon irl even if you don't know how to make it but takes a bit of the material in the process.
@@bullwyrk Agree, this durability change was something I really wasn't happy with at all. But I'm glad at least craftables are safe (unless you use repair kits, of course), and we will probably give our legedaries to our thralls...
Good Guide as normal Angaar, very detailed. However, something I see a lot of people doing is convert Hyena Fur, Reptile Hide etc to Hide and then turn iit into Leather... 1 Hyena Fur/Croc hide etc converts to 1 leather, 3 hide convert to 1 Leather... this means you convert say 2 Hyena Pelt to 3 Hide, when you could just convert the 2 Hyena Pelt into 2 leather
This is true, the reason I am striping it in the Tanner's Table is I will very shortly require a LOT of hide to stitch into Thick Hide to make Thick Leather once we get get our first thrall.. So hide is more important to me right now. But as you say, once we are done with that it is better to just throw it straight into the Tannery. 👍
They really need to do something about that new journey system. Some of the rewards are nice, but i much preferred it when it just worked automatically in the background. Now, not only do you have to constantly swap them, but it also requires you to do each step in a specific order. I know the intention was to teach new players, but once you know your way and you just want to be rewarded for playing naturally, this system makes it tedious. Like when you have both tanner and armorer, both require you to skin an animal, but you only get credit for the one active; so to get both in one kill you have to use the skinning knife once on one journey, switch to the other journey and use the skinning knife again
Great video Angaar! For iron i usaly like to go north past Siner's refuge, fight the rocknoses with a club and come back near Summoning place to get some coal then climb down next to Siner's refuge! 😁
No way the best place to start off is by the Dregs on noob River. There are easy shalebacks and Crocs nothing too sketchy but 7 nodes right along the river to the north.
I have watched all the series, awesome content!. I wanted to adjust the rates that you have on this play through, to my server that I use to play with my friends. Do you have the config file for the server?
This new series is very timely - I am just returning to the game (on PC this time - I was PS4 before). I'm going to try and shadow your progress (more-or-less).
Next time for iron, just go out your backdoor and run straight up the hill. at the top just turn right and you will get plenty of iron nodes. only three of that stone cows guarding the 20ish nodes and around the bend right of the Dafari temple you cant miss, are 4 unguarded coal nodes. that lttle run gives nice number of ore and more than enough coal to smelt it in one little convenient run. I build my early base up there. croc lake for water, iron and coal nearby, feathers for my arrows, and the camp to the left when you come up for combat training and sla... uhm i mean paid workers.
It’s great to see your series again , watching with as much attention as I can, I have a question, is it possible to start a game with this update , age of war , and still keep my original game Or will it wipe out and is a case of starting over , . Thanks , and keep smashing the videos, they are the most helpful, as always .
So it is the base game that will update to AoW, so your existing game will automatically update to this version with everything as is. Or you can choose to start fresh if you want. Either way you cannot stay on the Age of Sorcery, etc
So the skeletons are invincible? That would actually be pretty cool to have roaming hordes of unkillable enemies, as long as they don't have a huge agro range.
Hiya lil brother just wanted to say hi, the coordinates i gave last time yields 600+ Iron with a stone pick and over 1000 with iron pick. won't mention it again it's your game.
Hey, it seemed like your UI changed from the first episode to the second. Is this an addon/mod? Or something done in the settings, it looks very clean! Thank you for the videos!
It would be easy to detect something like Learning a Feat, but skinning or mining would be harder for the game to log, so that it could later add it to a journey step, I would say it is fixed tbh, can u imagine how big your character info sheet would be if it waited for you to activate a journey step to get Hit A Rock journey step
Someone did make a good point. Since it is to teach a new player the processes in the game they need to, for example, skin an animal, tan hide for tar, mine brimstone, make steelfire, etc in the right order to make steel. If it auto completed some steps it would leave them confused. This is a fair point.
Hi, thanks for the video, it has helped me get into game! Just wondering about how did you change your health/stamina UI? It was the old version in the previous video. Is it a mod? Thanks again in advance!
@@AngaarUK thank you, what about the map? I don't have grids and numbers along with letters on mine, I only have digits on areas which doesn't help much things
@@catrastaroth map is vanilla, numbers are up and down left and right side, letters are along top and bottom. You may need to scroll a bit to see them.
I'm new to this game as of yesterday its information overload and I wouldnt have figured most of this out on my own for ages. Thanks for the guide. 2 questions when I made the light armour mine only gave me 55 armour not 111 like you wondering why? And do the iron nodes respawn? Thanks 👍
So I am guessing you don't have as many points in Grit as I do. The light armour itself only gives 31 points of armour, but you get +8 armour for every point in Grit you add (as well as extra Stamina). Yes all node respawn, as long as you don't block them by building too close.
@AngaarUK ok, thanks. I also collected all the iron, but when I smelted it, I only got 55 iron bars. Is it different on ps5 ? I have put attributes in strength I didn't copy you to a T
Because of you I ended up playing Conan Exiles, but sadly I have stopped due to the fact that on single player I can't get any star metal at all. I spent a hour today looking in the area it spawns and nothing at all.
Star Metal can be a pain in single player as they are on a 30 minute timer with only a chance each time. My preferred method is to tame Fighter II (the ones with mace & shield) from Mounds of the Dead, once tamed take their weapons and dismantle them into Star Metal bars. While you farm them, as you are in the area, the meteor shower can also happen 😎
I can't believe I've never asked this. All the guides I watched you make for this game. Do you buy the rights to run your own server or is this just standard single player mode that you can tamper with Angaar?
@@AngaarUK so thanks to you showing me the admin privileges in the first episode I went back and spawned in all the fighter thralls I lost. But they removed a whole bunch of them like Ana the Reaver and Dalinsia Snowhunter. They are completely out of the game on console at least. There's still Lian luckily. But yeah not cool admins lol
Okay, I've been converted. The pike rocks versus a single enemy like shellback or crocs. But against fast enemies like hyenas and if two or more, it's almost a death sentence. Daggers are rocking multiple opponents.
What you need is a thrall lol. But the dang GMs took all 12 of my warrior thralls most of them I converted from Conan's dungeon and the 2 main fighter ones I took all the time I got from the slave traders. Luckily all my worker thralls are still here or I would be really really mad. But all those rare things I had on them dragon bone armor and poison weapons. MMMMMMAAAANNNNNN
Best for multiple opponents is the greatsword heavy attack, but there was once a time when the pike had sweeping attacks that made it useful against more than a single target standing right in front of you (seriously, you can now beat pike wielding bosses just by sidestepping)
@@cho2969 I considered it believe me but then I found the admin privileges lol. I spawned some of the followers back but they remove my Dalinsia Snowhunter. And Ana the Reaver. I'm not happy about that
You would have thought Funcom would have gifted you all of the DLC with you introducing so many people to the game. Ring them up and tell them I told them to give you the works. 😄
Not really as it is possible to have light armour with Strength bonus and Heavy Armour with Agility bonus. It is more about the balance of mobility over damage reduction and stamina usage.
@@AngaarUK oh so basically if you want to be quicker or not worry so much about your stamina usage then light armor if you want to just be an in your face burly tank heavy
There isn't a really a quest line. It is an open world sandbox game, so you can basically do what you want. Once you complete the 1st dungeon (The Dregs) you get an item that will give you clues on thing things you need to do to escape the Exiled Lands, that is as close as you will get to a quest.
Isn't Reptile hide used for the armor you get in the dregs? Also reptile hide is used for serpent-men weapons which now are better then Obsidian weapons.
Yes, but we are a bit away from that yet and is easy to get when we need it. At this point we have more of a need for hide to stitch together for thick hide for our thralls soon
They really need to change how journey steps are detecting progress. Last task of every step should be tracking all the time, like how it was with the old system
@@AngaarUK nope. I think its a glitch. Havnt been able to fix it yet, but I downloaded a map extension mod that did fix it. No clue, but Im happy Incan see again in caves!

Yeah, it is great for new player, but still needs tweaked!
Great video Angaar! For iron i usaly like to go north past Siner's refuge, fight the rocknoses with a club and come back near Summoning place to get some coal then climb down next to Siner's refuge! 😁
Thats where I usually go as well. Loads of iron there.
Yeah, the run I do in this video is the easy run. Once I gave a pet or thrall to help carry all the iron/coal I do that run
No way the best place to start off is by the Dregs on noob River. There are easy shalebacks and Crocs nothing too sketchy but 7 nodes right along the river to the north.
@@Skeezle1986 There are plenty of spots to make your base as a beginner
Activate those journeys! 😁
Had to leave the download on overnight but it's finally done so now I can play!
Enjoy 🤘😎🤘
Always enjoy your CE videos. Do you also have a series for end game min maxing and such? Just curious is all.
Not sure that is possible. Everyone's playstyle is different, and the RNG nature of legendary weapon drops makes it hard to min-max in this game.
I have watched all the series, awesome content!. I wanted to adjust the rates that you have on this play through, to my server that I use to play with my friends. Do you have the config file for the server?
The settings are in the Description of the Episode 1 video
💚 TOP series (from Italy)
Thank you
New player, wondering how you changed the HUD? I’d really enjoy the look of what you’re rocking in this video over the default one. Playing on ps5.
Sorry, it is Hosav's Custom UI mod, so sadly not available on consoles. 😟
Yup, I head up for that iron run a little later on.
Awesome, I actually found those iron nodes you're talking about, but didn't find the coal. I'll take a look at that later. Cheers 😁
It’s great to see your series again , watching with as much attention as I can, I have a question, is it possible to start a game with this update , age of war , and still keep my original game
Or will it wipe out and is a case of starting over , . Thanks , and keep smashing the videos, they are the most helpful, as always .
So it is the base game that will update to AoW, so your existing game will automatically update to this version with everything as is. Or you can choose to start fresh if you want. Either way you cannot stay on the Age of Sorcery, etc
If it bleeds, we can kill it!
So the skeletons are invincible? That would actually be pretty cool to have roaming hordes of unkillable enemies, as long as they don't have a huge agro range.
@@joshuabowles5819no, skeletons can't bleed, have you even listened?
Nice game play.. I have my base in the same location
thanks for the guides, wheer can I download this mod for minimap?
In the Steam Workshop, it is part of the Hosav's Custom UI mod
Hiya lil brother just wanted to say hi, the coordinates i gave last time yields 600+ Iron with a stone pick and over 1000 with iron pick. won't mention it again it's your game.
Hey, it seemed like your UI changed from the first episode to the second. Is this an addon/mod? Or something done in the settings, it looks very clean! Thank you for the videos!
Yes, it is Hosav's Custom UI mod
Awesome! Thank you for the quick reply! I am getting that now! @@AngaarUK
Journey system is still broken. Such a good job, Funcom.
It would be easy to detect something like Learning a Feat, but skinning or mining would be harder for the game to log, so that it could later add it to a journey step, I would say it is fixed tbh,
can u imagine how big your character info sheet would be if it waited for you to activate a journey step to get Hit A Rock journey step
Yes, that is Hosav's Custom UI mod.
@@AngaarUK thank you so much! Looking forward to more videos
Great help with the video thank you. Just a question your UI is different than mine is that a mod?
Sorry yes, I forgot to mention it in this video, but did in Ep.3. It is Hosav's Custom UI mod
Those daggers took me way into the jungle in the northeast thinking I belong there as level 8
@Emmoth666 not a biome I am fan of, but know many love it. You do you 🤘😎🤘
Luv this game 👍🙏❤️🍀🇺🇸
What mods do you have sir? Great content, thanks for all your effort.
Only mod I use is Hosav's Custom UI mod
What UI you using for you Health/Stamina?
Sorry, I forgot to mention it in the video. It is called Hosav's Custom UI. I will ensure I discuss it in Ep3 👍
Watch Angaar's beginners guide i tell the new players! Good clear Guide as always Bro!
Thx Sesimie, King of the Nomads 🤘😎🤘
What mod do you use to make your UI to give al the states under the healthbar
That is Hosav's Custom UI mod, the only mod I use. 🤘😎🤘
How did you get those additional stats in your upper left corner?
It is the Hosav's Custom UI mod.
I feel this. Easier to just farm mounds of the dead mobs.
How do you get the mini map visible on the bottom right corner?
That is from Hosav's Custom UI mod
I can't believe I've never asked this. All the guides I watched you make for this game. Do you buy the rights to run your own server or is this just standard single player mode that you can tamper with Angaar?
I record on single player mode as I can't have other players effecting the videos. But I do run my own sever for people to play on too.
@@Skeezle1986 That would probably have made me rage quit.
🤣🤣🤣
Hi, can we get this UI with the map bottom right and all the number top left on console ? Thanks :)
It is a mod called Hosav's Custom UI mod
So light armor is for those who are running exclusively agility weapons heavy for strength I’m guessing medium is for a mix of the two
Not really as it is possible to have light armour with Strength bonus and Heavy Armour with Agility bonus. It is more about the balance of mobility over damage reduction and stamina usage.
@@AngaarUK oh so basically if you want to be quicker or not worry so much about your stamina usage then light armor if you want to just be an in your face burly tank heavy
How come you didn’t show the location on the map where the iron is found in the beginner area
We setup base in Ep1 next to the giant Sentinel statues in G4, so the iron run just starts from that location.
How did you get a minimap? Is it a mod? If so what is the list of mods for your play through?
It is part of Hosav's Custom UI mod, the only mod I use.
Sorry I forgot to mention it in Ep.2, I do let everyone know in Ep.3
@AngaarUK yeah currently watching ep 3 and just seen it! Cheers.
I'm brand new to CE, where can I find a quest line guide for this game???
There isn't a really a quest line. It is an open world sandbox game, so you can basically do what you want.
Once you complete the 1st dungeon (The Dregs) you get an item that will give you clues on thing things you need to do to escape the Exiled Lands, that is as close as you will get to a quest.
hey im just starting out why did your GUI changed from previous video to this one? did you use any kind of mod?
Yeah, it is Hosav's Custom UI mod. I forgot to mention it in the video but do discus it in the next Episode
I noticed you have installed some mods since last episode, what ones are they?
Sorry I forgot to mention it in this episode, I do in Ep.3. It is Hosav's Custom UI mod.
@@AngaarUK cheers Angaar ill look that up .... have a sub for quick reply :)
Did you make new cool base?
Not yet m8. Only Ep.2 😁
With the new updates, I had to start over
How do you make the UI look like that on HP/SP bar ?
It is Hosav's Custom UI mod
Isn't Reptile hide used for the armor you get in the dregs? Also reptile hide is used for serpent-men weapons which now are better then Obsidian weapons.
Yes, but we are a bit away from that yet and is easy to get when we need it. At this point we have more of a need for hide to stitch together for thick hide for our thralls soon
What is the mini map your using and how do i get it please.
It is part of the Hosav's Custom UI mod available from the Steam Workshop

how did you get rid of the tips in the bottem right
If you go into Settings, the Gameplay you can deselect 'Show Contextual Controls' to disable them.
Ok thanks Angaar
They really need to change how journey steps are detecting progress. Last task of every step should be tracking all the time, like how it was with the old system

I noticed the caves are pitch dark now…is that an update?
Not that I am aware of. Did it turn night time while you was in there maybe?
