DO NOT WATCH THIS TRAILER, IT HAS SPOILERS!!! GO IN COLD. This trailer has no respect for the mystery of the film. Trust me, you want to watch this movie. Thumbs this up so new viewers don't get spoiled.
yes, totally agreed. Saw the film last night first time and i'm glad i didn't watch the trailer beforehand - it would've killed the key moment of the story! Brilliant film though, brilliant music too!
After you see the movie and go back to watch this, you'll just be like "wow, really? they're showing THAT in the trailer?!". The film is just pure art...
Maj0ra Correct! I have uploaded the documentary on my dropbox. Check out my channel for the video and the download link. - Clean, easy and safe download -
I was amazed when I was first told that nobody outside of South Africa knew who this legend was. He is HUGE in South Africa. I always heard Rodriguez being played in people's homes growing up. It's not an exaggeration when it's mentioned in this documentary that he was as big as Elvis for us in South Africa.
I'm a little bit proud that this movie was made by someone living in Sweden. I've never heard of Sixto Rodriguez before. Today I have listened to his music on TH-cam for hours and I love everything I've heard so far. This movie is getting a lot of attention in Sweden at the moment.
😈😈😈GHOST is from Sweden!! Sweden has GHOST, I have GHOST here in fokkin South Africa!! A decade later and BOOM!! You're Welcome, Sweden!! Thank you for IMPERA and, my personal favourite track, 'Call Me Little Sunshine' on it, and thank you for GHOST you goddamn superhuman metal music creating superfucks!! Honestly, I don't know why you hate cars, but, I'm looking riiiiight passed that straight onto The Official Music Video of said track, hoping for Year Zero to come up NEXT!!😈😈😈
I don't usually get emotional, but this one got me very deep. Something to be shared with everyone you can, such a great, fulfilling, empowering, human documentary
I love his music!!! Grew up in the 70s!! He would have been one of my favorites!! HE IS NOW!! THANKS to the ones who Found him and made this public!!! 💝
Rodriguez has always been a cult status among my friends in Sydney since the late 70s & many of us went up to Tanelorn Music Festival in Oct 1981 to see the great man perform . Little did we know it would be one of his last performances until his South African comeback in 1998. Hoping with this fantastic moving doco on his life , he will get the recognition that many here down under ,and in New Zealand & South Africa have known for a long time .
The first time I ever heard of Rodriguez was in the film Candy back in 06, there's a pivotal scene between Abbie Cornish and Heath Ledger (RIP) that shows the dramatic changes in their relationship. The song was "Sugar Man". I LOVED IT and had to find the full song and any other songs by Rodriguez. Glad to see younger generations, self included appreciate his music. It's truly beautiful. Now, who's gonna be the first "pop artist" to sample his music?!
While you folks are digging this excellent music + documentary of Sixto, please check out another fantastic, magical documentary of forgotten musicians in Wim Wenders' "Buena Vista Social Club." The very same year (1998) that Sixto finally made his way to redemption in S.A., so did a group of Cuban greats like Ibrahim Ferrer, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo, and Ruben Gonzalez finally get their due by appearing at Carnegie Hall. Ry Cooder must have been channeling "Sugar" Segerman and Craig Bartholomew that year, because after tireless lobbying, he finally got approval for them to perform at the Valhalla of music. Wenders brings their wonderful personalities and deeply inspiring Cuban music to the big screen in yet another amazing documentary. For those who haven't seen it, and really enjoyed "Sugarman," please start clicking NOW for "Buena Vista Social Club." In the words of Stephen Segerman, I promise, you won't be disappointed !!!!
tagged along when a friend's band was asked to back him on his last visit to South Africa, watched the whole thing from backstage, now he is coming back for a massive tour again! alas, no small town backing band this time :)
So excited to see this when it comes through Miami on the 31! I can't believe he was so unsuccessful in the US. Has anyone listening to his music? It's really good!
I thought searching for sugar man won an Oscar? It won the Academy Award (AKA the Oscar) for Documentary Feature in 2013. That said Rodriguez is a cultural icon
I just saw this outstanding film. There were only 9 people in the theater, partly because it was a weekday matinee. Some things transcend the almighty dollar. Sony, if you are listening, please don't let low ticket sales keep you from making this kind of film in the future. I hadn't gone to a movie in over two years, but I'll be seeing this one again before it leaves town in one week.
Just because I saw your comment I paused the trailer before it started, am now going to buy the movie to watch it, then come back and probably say you were right.
I cant believe that alot of this movie was filmed using an IPhone app called 8mm Vintage Camera. As an inspiring photographer and video artist that just blew my mind.
I thank this documentary for opening up the door to this guys music. It's my new music drug. Take alittle Bob Dylan and mix it with some Nick Drake and you get Rodriguez. Magic.
I think people know the story before watching the trailer or movie? I know I do. Maybe its cos my parents are south african and grew up with Rodriguez and the like
What they did with the trailer is terrible. I too watched the movie before the trailer -THANK GOD. I vaguely knew they had found him, but the sheer surprise of seeing him opening the window literally took my breathe away. I was stunned! I've been telling everyone around me to watch it, but never ever watch the trailer before hand. It's been showing in Paris for the past 2 months, and the cinema is still full on most nights.
= won the OSCAR last nite; yeah!!! Deeply inspiring on several levels 2 anybody who's ever been overlooked in life - 4 anything! - but especially 2 any/all true artistes...KUDOS 2 the film-makers 4 their sheer persistence in getting the full story on this 'mystery' man!
His albums didn't sell cause we went by Rodriguez so when people would see his album they probably thought it's was some Spanish album or thought that subconsciously
I can see why you guys think this spoils it for viewer. But tbh, I've never seen the movie and now I'm even more interested after seeing the trailer. I thought it was just gonna be another tragic tale of an extremely talented artist struggling with a debilitating drug addiction in a bloodsucking music industry. And I'm tired of seeing the those tragic stories. They're too depressing for me these days. So sure, there may be some similarities. But this one seems different.
I saw the film this evening and I'd have to say its a masterpiece, though I think there are bits in tne trailer that are huge plot spoliers. If you read this before seeing the trailer go to see the film first and it will be even more special. In mhy view its the best film of 2012 so far and superior even to Man on Wire, if you're feeling down this is the film to lift you up - the good will out, eventually!
DO NOT WATCH THIS TRAILER, IT HAS SPOILERS!!! GO IN COLD. This trailer has no respect for the mystery of the film. Trust me, you want to watch this movie. Thumbs this up so new viewers don't get spoiled.

*Bigger than Elvis!!
Has to be my favorite movie I have watched the past decade. Heck I've watched it 6 or 7 times just for the music! Bless you Sixto Rodriguez.
Yes, this music and movie is a true pleasure.....it ain't that guilty pleasure sh_t either :)
I grew up with this man's music playing on my dad's car stereo. The Cold Facts album will forever be in my head.
I want that album sooo bad! I have listened to the Cold Fact album over and over again on youtube.
Great movie and fantastic (real) story! A must-see for every music lover!
brilliant movie! a beautiful example of divine justice. grew up listening to him in south africa.

First concert I ever saw was Rodriguez. In Newcastle Australia in the late seventies. Been a huge fan ever since.
Don't watch this trailer, it is full of spoilers, go watch the movie. Everyone should just repeat this comment as much as possible
Thank you you saved me from ruining this after getting into Rodriguez and now I won’t watch the trailer

What a man, what a legend. I still got my Dads old LP, welcome home bro, love you!!!!!
I have never heard of this man, and now I'm utterly intrigued by him and his music.
This documentary was so good. It is a beautiful story. I love Rodriguez' music.
One scene in it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life, something that every person should get to feel, even just once.
tagged along when a friend's band was asked to back him on his last visit to South Africa, watched the whole thing from backstage, now he is coming back for a massive tour again!

GREAT Documentary.. this one and "exit through the gift shop" are my favorites
So excited to see this when it comes through Miami on the 31! I can't believe he was so unsuccessful in the US. Has anyone listening to his music? It's really good!
As good as this film is, and it so good it deserves an Oscar, I just have to say ... LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. Amazing. What a voice.
I thought searching for sugar man won an Oscar? It won the Academy Award (AKA the Oscar) for Documentary Feature in 2013. That said Rodriguez is a cultural icon
For sure, one of the tops. Very emotional film about this great artist.
I'm lucky enough to live in Salt Lake City where he gets airplay on our local independent radio station KRCL ... this Doc looks super good.
Best documentary of 2012. This film deserves an Oscar. You have to see it to believe it.
Thank you, South Africa! Lucky to find such a lost jewel
Just watched it today, and man was it great!

Just because I saw your comment I paused the trailer before it started, am now going to buy the movie to watch it, then come back and probably say you were right.

I'm so glad I didn't see this trailer before watching the doc, it gives away the entire story!!!
I think people know the story before watching the trailer or movie? I know I do. Maybe its cos my parents are south african and grew up with Rodriguez and the like
He's been very popular in South Africa and Australia for decades, and is seen in the same light as Bob Dylan...
I'm gonna watch this again!
