  • In this episode of Map doctor, we go about making a house feel more like a home in RPG Maker. Taking two maps submitted by a viewer, we make active decicions around placing clutter objects to tell a story about the people that live there.

    The amount of time and quality you put into these things is just insane.
    Even using (mostly) the default assets in really natural looking ways is a really hard thing to do and you make it look easy.
    Keep it up, it's just really cool!

    Hey, you probably already know this But if you un-click "contiguous" when using the magic wand tool with 0 tolerance it'll select all of that color at once. Also, instead of recoloring each color individually, you can separate the full element you want to color and just put a color overlay in "color" mode in the layer styles. Just something I noticed. Looks good though! I actually watch these types of things to unwind after work. Lame, I know.

    • @LvLUpDesign
      @LvLUpDesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unclick contiguous. Got it. I was trying to mess around with colour range and it was having issues. Overlay is okay, but I can never get the colour right because of how it works. I only ever really use overlay if I'm making higher quality textures.

      "To unwind after work" because of my insomnia I need a video playing to fall asleep. Not just any video, I've narrowed it down to a Male with a Midwest accent talking about something that's not too interesting that I stay awake to finish it, but not too boring where I tune it out. So I got Zero judgement of what people do to unwind.

      @@LvLUpDesign He's not saying to use overlay layer mode xD He's saying use Color layer mode instead of that. Having done stuff with pixel art for a while I can agree with that tip Hue and Color are what you wanna use overlay never looks as good specifically with pixel stuff ie RPG Maker it looks really cheap and sloppy using the overlay layer mode to try adjusting colors, as is any colorize type tool. Gotta use different layer modes, Hue and Color are the better ones in particular.

    Amazing tutorial but one question from me. How do you import the new map that you made into photo shop and have RPG maker recognize it? do you have to manually make a new tileset and divide the map up into tiles and manually set the pathing?

    Amazing, this is like one of those reality shows where they revamp someone's house!
    I wonder if you could benefit from not using pure white/black for the lights and shadows.
    Lights that emphasise the colour of the material using an overlay blend mode, and shadows of a deep brown or purple are more interesting to look at.
    Either way, great job and everyone make sure to like the video ;)

    that's a shit ton of work for a player to simply walk in look around to try interacting with anything and everything and leave,.. I have some patience, but I mainly been using RPG Maker with a few custom small changes to tiles, and window lighting, but just can't do anything in Parallax. so... maybe can use MS Paint and Transparent copy/placement of stuff in rooms.

      Maybe, I'm not to keen on doing an outside map for a video because from experience that can take anywhere upto a week sometimes. but I could do a single house. Do you have a exterior map you'd like to submit to me? Maybe identify a house that you'd like me to spruce up and I can video it? :P

    How do you know how to color the pixels? I know you can use the color mode. But I'm curious about how to color pixels, do you have to add different shades of colors related to what main color you use? how does that work, like which areas should be dark and which areas should be light?

    • @LvLUpDesign
      @LvLUpDesign  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      So it usually depends on what I'm trying to do, there is a whole load of colour theory out there and if you type "Colour Theory" into youtube then you'll probably get some great videos.
      In this video, essentially I wanted to change the colour of something so I would pick a colour, then go up and down in the brightness of that colour to change highlights or shadows, rarely would I shift in saturation if I'm just doing a colour change.

      I know right!? It takes a bit of extra effort and in this case, 4 hours to get the whole thing done, but the difference that 4 hours make is astronomical in creating an atmosphere in a room. My secret end goal is to inspire everyone to put in that tiny bit extra into their map creation.

    Very impressive! I wish I was good at editing like you are. From a basic creation to a amazing editing. I would love to have skills like yours when I create my game, but I am currently heavily relying on RPG Maker MZ. Though I presume it might be better to start editing after you made the basics? I am proud to be a subscriber to your channel. Keep it going!

    • @LvLUpDesign
      @LvLUpDesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Andreas, yep, 100% Make the basics first and then edit later. Really you don't have to do too much visually until your game is mostly complete. Just get the bare bones down for you to make your game ontop of and edit it later. If you're interested, check out this video I did on a concept called grey boxing. th-cam.com/video/Wa3Mm1luVT0/w-d-xo.html&t
      Also with the skill of editing, that just comes with time. You just got to start, learn, watch tutorials and get better along the way. It's okay not to be perfect the first time around.

    Lovely! I'm a newbie and not sure *exactly* how you tell RPG maker mz to open the correct, edited map? Also, in a map like this one, won't players either be able to walk right across a bed or disappear behind it? How will RPG maker know where there are walls or objects blocking the way?

      Hey Damian, I use Adobe Photoshop. Most softwares are able to do this but in terms of ease of use, I personally find photoshop the easiest to use, I do however pay a monthly fee for it so it really just depends on what works for you.

      @@LvLUpDesign thank you so much I love your videos! When are you releasing another plugin video? Also. I made the rookie mistake of downloading all available plugins and have no idea which ones are active or what they are changing. This includes ones from MV which I imagine will probably crash ? MZ?

    • @LvLUpDesign
      @LvLUpDesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much. You want to know exactly what plugin is doing what. Running too many without knowing that you'll run into issues where two plugins contradict each other. Also, MV plugins rarely work on MZ and if they do, not well. Only way out of that is to spend the time to get rid of all the plugins you're not using and make a list of the ones you are. As for a plugin video, no idea my guy. I was considering thing a visustella series but I need to buy food before plugins haha.

    I just want to share you the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
    You see, we all have sinned, and sin leads to an eternal punishment. But God loves us so much, He is not willing that any should perish, So He sent His only begotten Son, The Lord Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins, and On the third day, the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead: Alive forevermore, and ascended on Heaven seated on the Throne. If you believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God that He died on the cross for your sins and that He rose from the dead, you will be saved! Today you can call on the Lord Jesus Christ and confess to Him your sins, repent and Have faith believe on the Lord Jesus.
