It's one of the lesser-known gems in the Real Book. Jarrett's compositions generally aren't played as much as they perhaps deserve to be played. In any case, he has a distinctive compositional style. Have fun with this one, David!
Hi Carl! I really appreciate you listening, and I love the piece too. One of the first Keith Jarrett albums I ever bought was the one he did with Gary Burton. Those early recording are very special.
@@rondrotoskeyboardimprov9453 I used to love that album so much that I'd borrow it from the library regularly. Still love it and listen to it. By the way, as a beginning pianist I've been trying to learn "Coral" recently. That's what brought me to this video. My Real Book has the notation of *Gb lydian* as the first chord in the 7th bar (followed by a Gb7 sus 4). I'm confused by this since I always considered lydian to be a scale instead of a chord. If I may ask, how do you approach playing/voicing the Gb lydian in this song?
@@bholaoates1542 Good question, and yes, the terminology can be confusing. In this case, "Lydian" means to play a major chord with an added #11th, which is the characteristic note in the Lydian mode.
Quick question for ya: so you said the D/Bb is suppose to be with the D in the bass, thought it was the other way around? And then secondly with the F#maj7/A# am I playing the A# as the bass?
Good catch, Daniel! I'll have to correct that if I said it - it's supposed to be the Bb in the bass, and then yes, the A# as you said. Have fun playing this tune :)
My first exposure to this song. Jarrett manages to visit a lot of tonal centers in just 8 bars! Thanks for all your videos!

Mr. Drotos! Lovely. Great voicings in your chording. Love it. I will now (attempt) to learn this tune!
Thanks! Have fun learning it :)
I was really looking forward to hearing your interpretation of this piece! It was great! One of my favorites

@@rondrotoskeyboardimprov9453 Ahhh, that makes sense. Many thanks to you, sir.
Short but sweet, enjoyed. Thanks Ron!
Hi Barbie! Thanks. At first I thought it might be too short, but then I realized that "short but sweet" is a good change of pace once in awhile.
