  • Hi everyone! I’m back with my third video.
A new tool, Hailuo AI Minimax, was out so I tested it and made a short film.
All the visuals are made using Minimax and some additional editing on colors. The sound and music are also made using AI. The whole process took me about a week and I did a thorough post production process for the sound design and color. This is inspired by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD that destroyed several cities including Pompei.
If you enjoyed this video, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could subscribe, give it a thumbs up, share the video, and share your thoughts in the comments. Your support truly means a lot! I’m grateful for all the encouraging feedback and constructive criticism. Thank you so much for your incredible support!
    Jeff

There were no lava flows, both Pompeii and Herculaneum were buried under metres of pumice followed by a pyroplastic flow that killed any survivors. Pliny the Younger watched the eruption and gave his name to the type of eruption. This looks more like Mount St Helens when inactual fact it was completly different. Sorry to rain on your parade but the details are well known and you should have been able to follow them.

August 24, 79 A.D.- Pompeii and Herculaneum were completely destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. The entire region around the volcano suffered a blast from the pyroclastic flow followed by an encasement of pumice and ash that buried the inhabitants and preserved them for well over a millennium.
This A.I. enactment is a fairly decent rendering of what may have been witnessed!

My imagination of this event was probably more like Mt. St. Helen. I’ve been to Pompei in person. The whole side of the volcano is missing. This was an instant. The pyroclastic flow was about 500 mph, nobody had any time to run.

Vesuvius is mostly unchanged from this eruption. The collapsed caldera surrounding Vesuvius was caused by an eruption like Mt. St. Helens but it was around 20,000 years ago. It's called the Somma caldera.

Truly impressive. Loved the animal scenes and some close-ups were touching. Some little RL details: As others have mentioned, Pompeii wasn't destroyed by lava flows but buried under hot ashes. Animals would act earlier, they have a sixth sense when it comes to catastrophic events. And they would run in panic. Lava flows slowly, its top speed is around 50 kph (approx 31 mph) at the very top, the longer it flows, the slower it gets due to the material cooling down and solidifying. But these are details, nothing to do with the short itself. Again, good job. Liked and subscribed.
As a personal note: I live on the NE slope of Mt. Etna. It's been a nonstop show for years now. We have pretty often ash and particles raining, as well as shaking windows sometimes, and small earthquakes caused by the volcano. As already mentioned, the lava is slow. In the case of a lava eruption, you would have enough time to evacuate. Hot ashes and particle rains would be more critical if the explosion is massive. Mt. Etna is a so-called gentle volcano, though, always active, and almost 3 times higher than Mt. Vesuvius. While we are pretty safe here, the same cannot be said about the people living on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius. If that volcano explodes (and it will, someday), it will be a catastrophe. Again.

@@jqcreations I'm a digital artist myself (for over 3 decades now, next to my programmer and graphic designer job) but have no experience in video-making. I was truly impressed by how real it looked and I'm certain, there is a lot of work behind it, even if AI-supported. No criticism was intended in my comment, and as an artist, you're not necessarily bound to reality but can let your imagination take the lead. All that matters is that it looks good and is done well.
If you make the animals move quicker (run suddenly in panic), you add significant drama to your work, same if the lava comes down slower, giving more time for the happenings below. As a side note, be careful with too "disturbing" scenes - that baby was so real, it was hurtful to watch. And I'm not an overly sensitive guy.
Enjoy your experimenting and good luck with your channel, I'll surely stop by when you publish new works. Greetings from Mt. Etna volcano. The real one ;-)

True, this take days to make, even more so when I did Final Glimpse( my next short after this, already published on my channel ). I spend most times on pre production and post production. Labor intensive even with AI involved.
I actually did make the animals quicker haha There are tool limitations for now but I suppose moving forward it’s easier to get the exact shot.
I’ll keep your points on my notes 👍👍👍

No disrespect here: this is well done for AI but it still has problems like including faces, the waves in liquids, some animals look weird, some persons are not hurt by lava or are walking while it's nearby etc ...

Most of the issues weren’t AI but other things… The sides of Vesuvius were mostly farmland, there wasn’t a dense forest crammed full of wild animals. The eruption didn’t have lava, it was ash and pumice and pyroclastic flows. And why did the town look like it was already a ruin?

I’ve become convinced that in the very near future AI will become virtual time travel. People will be able to choose any period of time and have a game engine be layered with AI generated images to make it feel like you are actually visiting Ancient Rome, storming the beaches of Normandy during world war 2, witnessing the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
You won’t have to watch gladiator. You will feel like you are in the colosseum watching a gladiator fight. Being able to experience it as a common Roman or as the emperor.
You can watch Abraham Lincoln at the Gettysburg address and watch as he is assassinated. You can feel as if you are at the steps listening to Martin Luther kings I have a dream. You can feel like you are front row for a Jimi Hendrix concert or in the studio with the Beatles recording the white album.
These videos have convinced me this last year that AI will make it possible to experience things we couldn’t have even imagined. It honestly could be something that allows us to become a deeper and better humanity. If children learn history in school by feeling as if they are experiencing it they will appreciate it.
In the same way they said veterans at saving private Ryan were moved to tears and their children and grandchildren were able to relate in a way they didn’t understand. That same thing can happen to people so they can understand why it matters.

very beautifully said. and you are right AI is going towards that direction considering other tech developments like VR. Immersive tech with AI like Full Dive VR will allow us to experience what you described. experiencing different realities. We’ll be able to experience life differently, discover new meanings. Just like how Saving Private Ryan help us at bare minimum understood what many went through during the war.

"something is going on in the forest", meanwhile no one is paying attention to LAVA and the entire top of the mountain going from total calm to full eruption, no explosions, no shockwave, no earthquakes, just full lava and massive ash spewing out the top and some shepard says "there is something going on in the forest". you are getting there though, pay attention to progression of story and realism of events. You have the mountain going from quiet to full lava and then back to just smoke again with no pyroclastic flows even though there was MAJOR lava coming out of the top, but moments later its just smoking? Vesuvius wouldn't have gone from quiet and serene to full eruption, it would have shook the ground and sent up ash clouds for weeks before a major eruption like that. there would have been a thin layer of ash on things already after days of buildup. keep it up!

for a full day ( the built up weight collapsing roofs ) ...
before the pyroclastic flows that killed anything remaining alive ...
