It's obvious that the incident occurred in the apartment for him to have placed her in a sleeping bag. It seems her family didn't know much about her life, or perhaps she was private. No one would meet such a fate unless the victim knew the person they were dealing with.

While living on the street she met the wheelchair guy and starting dating him so he would take her in and have a place to stay. The mother stepped over her own homeless daughter everyday on the street and knew the wheelchair guy was abusive and possessive. The friends also refused to take her in and left her on the street. That's why they all sound so fake.
