- As the summer winds down and we begin to see cooler evenings and shorter days, we say goodbye to a favorite summer bloom -- dahlias. In this Flower School How-To Video Leanne works with an autumnal color palette and end-of-season bounty to create a foam-free design with interesting mechanics. A tall bronze compote overflows with cottage yarrow, snapdragons, smokebush, bunny tail grass, dill, and of course dahlias -- it's a stunner, enjoy!

It is a superb autumn color combination, Tracey! We love transitional floral designs and the way they move gracefully from summer to fall. Dahlias are one of those flowers that allow us to do that as they appear at the end of summer and often last until the end of September or beginning of October. Gorgeous color ❤...just sad summer is at it's end 😢. But as usual, as more & more of fall's colors begin to show and the fall blooms like dahlias become more available locally, transition is made more easily for me ❤.
It's really true, Roxy! When we live in places where summer is shorter, we're always a little sad when it comes to an end because we know that our gardens and flower farms are won't be overflowing with blooms like they have been. Still we know that autumn brings some beautiful colors and materials to work with, and we do look forward to that. Not sure what you have available in your area, but we do have dahlias in Portland for a while longer and that helps a lot.
