    I know this was a decade ago, but this happens to me a lot and I always get so frustrated and quit for months. I have 6 little ones and one on the way... I am trying to learn how to sew myself, but the learning curve often takes time I don't have. This video was just like having a friend teaching me right there. Thank you so much. I have been blessed by this and can sew (albeit not great) again. Thank you!

    The cloth keeps jamming Everytime we untangle it. It’s a brand new machine. What could be the problem. It is good to see you are responding to comments even after 8 years of making this video. Thank you so much !

    Yes, thank you! My wife's CS6000i got jammed and we had no idea what to do. The manuals were not as helpful as I would have hoped for this situation. This was the PERFECT video for helping us solve the issue. You're the best :)

    So I just bought the sewing machine online and it was delivered with no demo whatsoever. Followed a TH-cam tutorial and managed to set up the machine to finally get started and to my horror the darned cloth got stuck after running smoothly for 2 minutes. Arrghhh! Now a beginner like me was completely unprepared for any such blunders . Thanks to you , you literally saved my day ! With your step by step tutorial, I could easily dismantle the parts, pull out the cloth and fix it. I feel like a genius :-)

    I have an embroidery machine and my bobbin thread got tangled and pulled all the fabric inside and my hoop was stuck. I have only used my machine a few times. Even though its a different brother machine, it is essentially the same inside and this video saved me from throwing it out of the window! thank you :)

    This is a great teaching video. I have a XR9500PRW that is 1 year old and I'm always having trouble with fabric jamming. We were going to go to the sewing center to have it serviced, then in the middle of the night I looked the problem up and did exactly what you suggest and it solved the problem!! I still think I will purchase a machine of higher quality, because it jams easily at the edge of the fabric and when using the fancy stitches. Thanks again for the wonderful help.

    Thank you so very much for this video. I've only had my machine for about two weeks and have only done embroidery on it. I was in the middle of a design and I got that warning and I was afraid that I would have to return it to the manufacturer. What a relief to find your video and see you remove the pieces so the material could be removed. I was surprised just how much dust was in there from only two weeks use. Thank you and God bless you too!

  • @david78212
    @david78212 9 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Very easy to stop that from happening... Because of the hole in the plate for most newer machines, flimsy fabric like that it can happen a lot. Easy cure, use a piece of paper on the bottom of the fabric. I use a roll of 10 inch X 50 yard tear away stabilizer on the bottom. That roll was $7 on Amazon.com... also works good for when I do embroidery. Straight stitch only machines do still have a use... this would not have happened with one, the hole is only barely bigger than the needle.

    I got this same machine for Christmas. I was trying out decorative stitches on it. When testing on 2-4 layers of denim, all was fine. When I tested on 2 layers of hoodie material, it would seem ok on the slow setting but when I speeded it up the stitches they get compressed. When i was trying to clear a jam I tried taking the plate off the but the screw on the plate to the left rear was so tight on, and the positioning of it so awkward I couldn't get it off. I ended up clearing it from the bobbin area.

    Thank you so much for your video. I just bought a new machine and was trying the new stitches. As soon as I thought "I like this machine", it got jammed. Diana S Thank you for taking the time to write.
      I am glad the video helped. Once in a while I still deal have this problem. But now I am more aware of the sounds that the machine makes when something is not right. So I stop right away, I try to make sure that; I'm not pulling the fabric, that the needle & thread are righ type for the fabric I'm using. Also I check the tension of the thread and the size of the stitches :)

    Thank you for sharing this video, Laura. You're so patient! That, in itself, is a wonderful lesson on how not to lose your cool when a jam of this magnitude happens :-) So many times we're in a hurry or so focused on the project that we get flustered and impatient with the process of fixing the jam and rush it. I so appreciate that you didn't and provided a motivating example to follow! Bless you, Laura!

      I am very moved by your kind comment. I appreciate that you took the time to write. You are very correct, sometimes one can get a bit fluster by little issues that can stop one's productivity. When I'm dealing with little hiccups while working on a project I find myself enjoying the process of learning how to fix things and understandig the machine :) I guess I also learn a bit of patience :) I hope you have a BEAUTIFUL DAY Gayle

      Hello :) I'm glad you found me and that the video was of help :) I had the same problems when I started using my machine for the first time. I have been able to avoid jams by making sure that:
      The thread, the needle and the fabric are the correct size and type for each other.
      I make sure to dial the tension of the thread on the machine to the propper setting according to the type of fabric and thread I'm using.

  • @honestytoafault
    @honestytoafault 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    First unplug the machine.
    Then take the bobbin out. Then manually work the needle up and down. This usually unjams the fabric. Only take apart at last resort

    • @dereksmith1774
      @dereksmith1774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this video should have been labeled last resort for getting it out, take the bobbin out cut the thread get the needle up, but don’t use duster to blow the lint to the inside of the machine it didn’t disappear now it’s inside the machine.

  • @KristieGhioni

    A suggestion is replace the needle, once the machine has jammed you will probably have either a burr on the needle or the needle will be slightly bent, a few cents to avoid another problem.

  • @hideeho52

    Excellent video. You are thorough and easy to understand. The sewing machine is easy to see as you explain.
    Now, if you could just tell me why my machine continues to draw my fabric into the feed dogs, my day would be real close to perfect. ;)

    • @LauraIglesiasCreationStation
      @LauraIglesiasCreationStation  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank your the nice comment!
      Regarding the little issue we all have:
      This are a few things that I try to be aware of in order to try to avoid jams with the fabric.
      The thickness of the fabric & the correct stitch.
      I set the machine using the suggested stitches in the manual for the material to sew. I also try to remember to use the appropriate thread for the type of fabric.
      Tension of the dial
      If the dial tension is putting too much pressure on the fabric, the fabric doesn't move with flow between the foot presser and the metal plate, as it should. Then the fabric gets jammed.
      If you have other ideas, please share :)

    • @hummingbirdlady11
      @hummingbirdlady11 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Laura Iglesias Besides using genuine Brother SA 156 bobbins and keeping the lint and bits of thread cleaned out from under the bobbin case (holder)...using a stabilizer under floppy open weaved fabric like the fabric in this video (as well as thin fine fabric) will help keep the fabric from being pulled down into the feed dogs. Either store bought stabilizer or using strips of printer paper will work as a stabilizer.

    Alright Laura! I was digging my wifes new machine hemming my jeans up. WHen it suddenly jammed pulling the material into the bobbin area. I thought maybe I can tell her someone borrowed it while I'm getting it reparied? Nope...closest place was 45 minutes away. So figured I used to fix cars why not this baby? Oh wow man there are a ton of springs...gears....plates...wheels....ect. Better look at a UTube video....found yours. Huh....just cleaning the bobbin area would fix this??? Alright!! It all went well till she saw me carrying it into the garage where the air compressor was. Uhh oh!!! But it fixed it!!! WHEW!!! Thanks!!

    All your tips & suggestions on fixing the troubles are excellent . Thank you very much. My machine is continuously indicating that "Safety device is activated". I removed the screws and took out the steel as well as plastic covers, bobbin case, cleaned the lint . Tried to start the machine. But still I am getting the same indication. Please advise me what to do. I am a resident of Perth West Australia living in Northern suburb.

      Thank you very much for the nice comment, and for taking the time to write. It is great to know that we can connect through this media, I saw on google maps pictures of Perth and it looks beatiful!
      Regarding the issue with your machine: According to the manual... When the error "Safety device is activated" - The probable cause: The upper thread has become tangled around the bobbincase, and the needle is bent and hitting the palte, etc.,
      I haven' had that problem, but to address it, I would first make sure that needle I'm using is perfectly straight or that it is not overused.

    5/8/2020: Thank you very much for this video. It definitely helped me to fix this problem.
    My issue was trying to go over a round rubber cord and trying to force it through. Causing a jam up where the needle kept going in the same space for too long🤦🏽‍♀️
    Lesson learned.
    Keep up the good work. It helps a lot to know others have the same issues and how to overcome them.
    🥳

    Omg thanks so much for this. I kept on retreading. My machine and it didn't help. So I opened the bottom and aparently the bobbin holder thingy was out of place. Which is weird cos everything was sewing fine and all of a sudden it bunched. Can the bobbin holder move itself to a wrong position?

    Just watched this video, good info for removal of fabric, but I was told never to use compressed air.
    It’s ok to use light suction , but never blow air into the machine?

    • @DilettanteDon
      @DilettanteDon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't want to use air because it blows the lint and dust deeper into the machine and hidden moving parts.

      @LauraIglesiasCreationStation  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ivens desulme Hello, thank you for the suggestion.
      I did try turning the wheel, but the wheel was not moving at all, so I couldn't move up the needle.
      That is why I had to go through the whole process you see in the video.

      If you are using stretchy fabric of any kind then buy a walking foot. It's a big foot but it's a life saver because it has feed dogs on it to help grip the fabric with out stretching it and it rarely jams. Trust me as someone who makes t shirt quilts, it's worth the investment.

      The needle does get totally frozen, and do not force , nor turn the handwheel away from you. I get rock hard nests under my embroideries sometimes, and then I go under the hoops and fabric with a long handled sewing stitch clump removerscalpel. Just have to be slow and careful. I managed to rescue a towel and not cut through the fabric. Amazing.

  • @judysanders4365

    I was using my brother pe800 to embroider a hydrangea when I realized that the needle was going up and down, but not otherwise moving, which created a serious jam. I had to abandon the project. I changed the needle, got a new design, got new fabric and stabilizer, and rethreaded up and down, but wouldn't you know it, the needle started bunching up on the second project. I was afraid I was going to have to take it in. So I started all over, redid everything except the needle. It seems to be working okay now. Fingers crossed.

    i had a similar problem with my brother. but, i wished i had came across your video. i just yanked the jammed fabric out of my machine/bobbin and now it doesn't spin anymore to sew. Do you know if this is repairable or does this mean my machine is dead? I don't want to pay $70 for a repair because a new machine would be about the same price. I hope you can help. If not, I'll just get a new machine. Thanks.

      Hello :) maybe the position of the bobbin case is not right.
      Make sure that the mark on the bobbincase aligns with the little white arrow that shows the way the bobbincase should be align.
      Make sure the tension of the thread is correct according to the type of thread & fabric you're using.
      Check that the bobbincase is not punctured.

  • @hummingbirdlady11
    @hummingbirdlady11 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your video helps others not to yank out the jam. Closeup views are super easy to see and your fingers and hands are not in the way...your explanations are great too. Two things may have caused the fabric jam: the lint and bits of thread in the bobbin area and especially a genuine Brother bobbin was not being used. Recognized the bobbin and it looks like a Singer or Dritz. It seriously matters to use the correct Brother bobbin. The kind stated to use in the manual will save your machine damage.
