The devs seem to be going for a polished game that can be run on mid tier PCs. ToW is definitely leaning more towards never than late in this scenario.
I re-downloaded the game today and was looking for this mode as I remember watching citizencon 2019 and they said they would add it "soon" . Little did I know that soon was 2035 in CIG terms
One thing you mentioned here, so I feel isn’t breaking rules, you say it is “fast paced”. One of the biggest feedbacks during testing was to slow it down to allow for more tactical play. Think rainbow 6 or arma 3, rather than COD.
What I would love to see is the ability to have arcades in cities and head-set terminals where you can plug in and play ToW/SM/AC. I can imagine that would be a great travel pastime.
Reading between the lines - server meshing isnt going to be the silver bullet everyone thought it would be in terms of performance gains and increasing the in game player base will actually negatively affect performance. So they need to find other areas where performance can be improved whilst at the same time add some new toys to keep the audience busy especially for the majority of players that dont have a lot of time to play SC. Irrespective of the underlying research and performance feedback loop this game mode sounds like it could be fun and hopefully it includes AI and squad based gameplay.
Yes they already said a couple weeks ago that there is no silver bullet for stability. It's not how game development works. And it's Jared who brought that up.
This could be an excellent testbed and iconic game mode that genuinely impresses. Take your time and do it right. A delayed game is eventually good, a poor release is bad forever (except no man's sky)
Instead of dropping a fully fledged game mode to sit idle, why not just make a month-long open PTU test. Gather all the feedback for that phase then close it down for 6-12 months to work on improvements.
Because of the shitstorm they would be getting, and that's bad for marketing. They said that basically in the video, just in longer, more sophisticated sentences.
I say take as much time on this mode as it takes to make it a polished/playable experience, because imo, this mode has the potential to bring so many people on board to play the game and you want to make a good first impression.
Like it's a very real possibility that this mode could give a player similar feelings to the best of what Battlefield/Battlefront (2) has to offer. Large multifaceted combat including fps, infantry, vehicle, and ship combat that goes from the surface of a planet to ships in space, all in real time and all player controlled. It really could be something special.
Sounding great fellas, looking forward to sink my teeth into this mode. I have friends that are curious with how SC will be implementing FPS combat and will define if the invest in the game...not me as I am looking forward to the space sim (life) part...but I want to bring others into the game even if they have a more narrow focus.
Some really good explanations in there. Really appreciate the episode. I feel pretty reassured with what I heard. Please don't let it die! It was nice to hear that it has some longevity. I dig that in house data provided enough to hold off on a evo test, to address the issues that could be dialed in. Music to my ears. Sounds promising how it is being approached. Getting excited again! Cheers.
It's always a good idea to have a dedicated team of people working on this portion of gameplay. I wish Arena Commander had been expanded at some point over the past... what... 7 years? But if Theaters of War works out the way I imagine, it will be worth it.
From the performance and low frame rates perspective, a good analogy is that testing a game with low frame rate is like trying to read a great book that’s been put through the shredder.... it’s still a great book, but good luck understanding the story!
I would happy to have a well optimized PU that was 6 patches behind the poorly optimized PTU. I want a playable environment to enjoy, and not feel embarrassed showing to new friends, even if this means it is lagging behind the PTU.
At first I was sceptical about this, but it actually opens up so much opportunity, its really nice that they're doing this to introduce these systems into the PU. PU is definitely lacking these kinds of missions, the moment these kinds of missions are in the PU, SC player base will shoot right up. Xenothreat was a prime example of this. A lot of people are sceptical on the release of SC but... these things that seem stupid to some, need to look at the bigger picture and realise that these things are done intentionally to feed back to the PU gameplay experiences, its like everything that is being worked on which is not the PU or SQ42, are essentially testing grounds for the main games. It's exciting! P.S please give us the bengal cig :( we wamt to own them!
first of all it´s a test box for CIG how they can improve 1st person gameplay and combat. At the end we might see an concole version of a BF based warfare in an SC setup. I dont expect much by this and it´s not the way i will play SC in the upcoming years all the time, but i understand the demand of refinance the project through opening it to console folks. This could be a good option to seperate it from the PC based universe mode and SQ42. But a long road to go is still ahead and i dont expect much until end of 2022. I hope the can make a better progress here in the next 12 months. But it´s a really small team for this huge amount of work,

perfection is the enemy of progress. I personal see from FPS gaming no progress in for example star marine - where I would have expected to get benefits from development in ToW. Its fine that you put a whole planet there and you can feel free to run 30 min in one direction. But this is far away from what we guess would love to see in main priority. Even star marine would be great IF this would be low latency, no rubberbanding, laggs whatever has the biggest impact in FPS gaming. It would be great if in terms of iterative development would ship something out after a sprint. Its called value. Nobody has something from internal progress and several months short interviews "we are on track" . Wouldnt it be iterative improvement and better so get results to improve star marine first which is fully unplayable when you sould like to use it as other games before planning a huge project with bigbang release plan? Just my 2 cents. I still stay on SCs side and still think this maybe is released in the next 5 years to beta but I truely believe you undervalued the storypoints on this... At the end thx for updating us..

@@awesome9174 Thats one of the main issues - we all agree in believe and trust of the dream Chris has/had. But the ToW also shows again that they only plan building a UNIVERSE or PLANETS or anything big what cant be accomplished in range of time. We can check weapons also in Star marine and might even have fun there? How dare to believe to find a solution on a scale issue of a planet instead of try to fix them on a small map? Most people smell the issues is in netcode. The same reason we have no real dogfights any more due to the latecy is so aweful we have worked this around by a autoaim circle half as big as your screen. AKA Gimbal mode... Instead of we are on track there would be needed a real target to aim. "low 20 fps.." was mentioned but noone said a example config with estimated framerates. So what is the goal? And sure I can have 120FPS and the bullet doesnt appear where I would assume it. Its not only FPS on the client side. Like in some competative games people slow ping to get glitch kills and be immortal. "We are on track" is far too generic without knowing THE measured qualitygate. And when we all agree that star marine is Foo and we are in alpha. Why there is no ToW in the launcher?
Yeah... knowing this project and the hurdles that pop-up with the things they're making I'm gonna say 1 year is optimistic. I hope I'm wrong, though. It sounds like a really fun game mode to play. =)

"Finding the fun" is such an important statement. This development is so key in insuring the actual game is as enjoyable as it should be. Things such as SLOWLY getting in and out of seats and turrets is incredibly infuriating, but rubbish like that won't survive Theaters of War.
@@jonneymendoza then you may should give it a try again. 3.13 just doubled the fps for lower specs systems and increased for highendsystems aswell. A friend of mine is in a 1070. Before he was around 25-35 fps. Now he's around 45-60
Oh it's for you. By them overloading and hammering the games systems with hundreds of players, it will make your solo walk through a space station a smooth, colorful experience.
So much they can't do until server meshing it would appear. Chris, ever hear of the story of Henry Ford when he asked his engineers to produce a single black engine, & they came back and told him it was impossible? In response to which he set them all up in a facility and said to them that they weren't coming out until they solved it, and so they did. This is much the same thing here with Server Meshing. I-Cache also rests on that core tech. It's a breakthrough that has to happen sooner rather than later for the sake of the whole project moving forward. The entire vision rests on it, on the belief that the core tech has a pathway to getting there. So if it's possible, do it, somehow. It's needed to push forward into the realization of the dream and vision.

Unreal Tournament Onslaught mode was always my favourite mode. I’m very happy that it’s being revived in Theaters of War but with more realistic movement. In FPS games, I always preferred the ones that were more realistic. COD has everyone running around as hyper soldiers that wouldn’t even consider Steve Rogers a threat - unrealistic. Fun yeah, but unrealistic. Star Citizen is much more realistic.
so tired of them saying we have this "fill in the blank" and it is awesome and you are going to love it when it comes soon.....2 or more years and still nothing. TOW and Server Meshing and full persistence and physicalized items and and ..... oh yea here is a 30k for your time.
Easy. Sq42. It has a definite end state for a single player game. The others will continue to have features added as they continue to be developed - a true end state can't be defined.
I really like all this, and it puts into perspective what SovietWomble said in his video essay on DayZ, evangelist alienation, it doesnt happen with SC because of its cohesive vision, so the supporters stick around, less the first wave who didnt expect the huge expansion of the game.
Guys chillax its a testbed for them to improve the game. I wish we had this right now but lets face it think 2-4 more years before Star citizen will be in a good starte gameplay and Performance wise.
I bet the like on this video will be more than the dislike. Even after they openly say AC and SM are dead modes and they don't want ToW to die with them. Why even keep them around if they don't plan on finishing them. Arena Commander, Star Marine Theaters of War Star Citizen Squadron 42 The list of unfinished games grows and grows for CIG
Once this is introduced into the game it will also push people to want to train and practice more in Star Marine. Will Star Marine be reviewed and worked on to fix bugs and bring it up to snuff? Thank you. Theaters looks amazing.
25:20 ..no out of "bounds kill timers" like in Halo multiplayer?!! Sweet. Im really looking forward to this game mode. The immersion will be fantastic!
I'm assuming there won't be any quantum drives in ships or maybe nothing close enough to quantum to, but that is super sweet that they're going for a no boundary approach. I highly doubt that there's ever been such a large FPS arena as they're talking about.

What I would love to see is the ability to have arcades in cities and head-set terminals where you can plug in and play ToW/SM/AC. I can imagine that would be a great travel pastime.
I believe this will be a thing. At least have the sim pods either in our homes or a center.
go to New Babbage and you can see the simpods there in the Microtech store, i forget the name.
@@Odeezee They used to have simpods in the hangar module too.
@@Tsudico i haven't been to the hangars in a minute, have they removed the Sim Pods?
Theaters of Wait
Great update on Theaters Of War . Always great to hear from Sean Tracy and his team !
No new information other than there will be a second scenario focused in space.
Hey, they could always just remove another moon to improve performance....kiss Yela bye bye! ;)
Theaters of War team is so awesome, I cant wait to play it!
This could be an excellent testbed and iconic game mode that genuinely impresses. Take your time and do it right. A delayed game is eventually good, a poor release is bad forever (except no man's sky)
Or bf4
No man's sky would've sold way more copies had it had 2years more dev time (and the budget that would go with it) but I'm sure they did their best
Instead of dropping a fully fledged game mode to sit idle, why not just make a month-long open PTU test. Gather all the feedback for that phase then close it down for 6-12 months to work on improvements.
Because that's not "agile"
Get comfy it will be awhile.
Cheers.
It makes me very happy how passionate these 2 and the team are about making this mode haha. I feel like Richard could talk about this for days.
I'm guessing mentioning Battlefield is the elephant in the room then.
Getting to play Theatres of war is going to be cool, MY BODY IS READY
Yeah, in about 3 more years
I hope you're a young body..
I would happy to have a well optimized PU that was 6 patches behind the poorly optimized PTU. I want a playable environment to enjoy, and not feel embarrassed showing to new friends, even if this means it is lagging behind the PTU.
As always, Sean's energy is infectious.
Zero desync, high server tick rate with no drops or WE DON'T WANT IT YET!
Your forgot to mention a real hit box for bodies... 'cause I'm a bit pissed off about shooting in people' s head and see they don't take damage 🤔
But it´s a really small team for this huge amount of work,
They test how much they can milk the whales xD
Theaters of War will be what Dust 514 was supposed to be. I'll wait, I'm patient.
Yeah I miss Dust 514. it wasn't perfect, but there was nothing like it.
I'm patient too. Glad I haven't given CIG any money yet, but I enjoy following the progress.
@@Lazirus951 Giving some money to support the project it's fine. I'd never recommend to spend a lot of money in it except if you are enjoying Star Citizen how it's NOW.
@@Elkarus I totally agree. I keep checking out free fly weekends to see if it's worth it to me yet, but keep coming away with same conclusion. Maybe someday.
Is Chris Roberts still part of the development? Haven't seen him in ages.
|oo|
I think a Platoon vs platoon level gameplay would be incredible. 20 v 20
Got to have that 360 degree of gameplay ;)
perfection is the enemy of progress.
10000% agree. Star Marine is a mess. I have little hope for Theaters of War.
Still waiting
Thank you! I appreciate the info a lot and it explained much. Keep it up!
I'm liking the "Whataburger" hoodie Jared. Got me craving now.
I know you guys are wanting to have it polished before anyone looks at it but we want something to do.
Great upload and we appreciate the honesty.
I remember when we were supposed to get tow last year and now I feel it's going to take one more year...
Yeah... knowing this project and the hurdles that pop-up with the things they're making I'm gonna say 1 year is optimistic. I hope I'm wrong, though. It sounds like a really fun game mode to play. =)
I am a backer since 2k16 , i follow the dev since the start . i am ready to wait and play alpha and beta for 5 years or because i see the work done and it's huge ! Keep up the good work guys !
I'll have been a backer for ten years next year, time has flown by.
Theater of Wait
"Finding the fun" is such an important statement. This development is so key in insuring the actual game is as enjoyable as it should be. Things such as SLOWLY getting in and out of seats and turrets is incredibly infuriating, but rubbish like that won't survive Theaters of War.
At least they acknowledged performance and realising most people don't have high end systems
bro, even high systems cant run this game above 30fps
@@jonneymendoza then you may should give it a try again. 3.13 just doubled the fps for lower specs systems and increased for highendsystems aswell.
A friend of mine is in a 1070. Before he was around 25-35 fps. Now he's around 45-60
@@TorianArmrag I'll try delete my user folder. I am still getting same fps as before
I would love to see ToW type scenarios in the PU as missions
These 10 ppl haven't moved TOW an inch since CitCon but can do a 25 minute presentation about ir. Amazing!
If you had experienced TOW over the past year you would know a LOT of improvements have been made.
@@lonezer0 So why didn't they talk about that?
@@lonezer0 I mean, I watch this because i couldn't play TOW over the last week and want to know how it progresses. That's what the show is for, no?
So what progress have been made for TOW these two years of development?
Theaters of War is such a good idea and I'm very excited to see where it takes the gameplay and balance!
So nothing new, feels like a old record a little..... Something like a comparison of the frame rates would be nice or anything to show....
He did say framerates were closer to 20-25 in the first test and in the second test they were around doubled, which would be 40-50.
@@subbss according to Star Citizen Leaks it was around 20 first test and around 30 second test
@@subbss oh oh wow, so one thing in a long video 🤣😂 your kidding right?
This. This the the news that I have been waiting for. This is what will bring me back to Star Citizen.
Well it did not sound like it was anywhere close to being ready. Hope you can wait a while longer.
@@dark_winter8238 Haha, that won't be a problem. I've been waiting for many years.
That's a really nice SG guitar back there. I noticed there are few more devs that play guitar too. That humbles me.
I won't even bother to launch this.
Nobody:
thisSmolnly: I won't even bother to launch this.
It's not for me but I hope they get the information they want from it.
Oh it's for you. By them overloading and hammering the games systems with hundreds of players, it will make your solo walk through a space station a smooth, colorful experience.
Where it at tho
When will we get TOW? = Ready when it’s ready. Hmmmm.
I mean, they can't do any more than that.
Ok, so I'm a backer $500-$1000 (maybe more), honesty not sure, but that dont matter. I dont watch the content anymore since they screwed us over with 10 minute vids. WTF is this? lol & wow. Excuse after excuse, after excuse. Dont publish vids like this ffs. Publish stuff that intriuges or excites us. Based on this I'll check back again in 6-12 months.
Imagine how bad ToW will feel at 20fps and 3 seconds of desync
Love the energetic, enthusiastic attitudes toward TW. Good stuff guys
Ok. Thanks for the update. No point releasing it if* it runs like trash anyways, which is what they said. So i'll just Keep Calm and Carry On.
As someone who doesn't have much time to play, this is what I want!
Wow I was at edge of my seat through the entire thing! Glad you're making good progress, I am seriously looking forward to this!! Can't wait
so tired of them saying we have this "fill in the blank" and it is awesome and you are going to love it when it comes soon.....2 or more years and still nothing. TOW and Server Meshing and full persistence and physicalized items and and ..... oh yea here is a 30k for your time.
Which one will be completed first?
Theaters of War
Star Citizen
Squadron 42
None ?
Theaters of War, Squadron 42 (chapter 1 at least), and idk when Star Citizen will be finished
Your list is missing games Arena Commander, Star Marine
Easy. Sq42. It has a definite end state for a single player game. The others will continue to have features added as they continue to be developed - a true end state can't be defined.
SQ42 completed first
Star Citizen has no end date because it's a "live service" game from before the term was invented
Still nothing to this date..........................
I really like all this, and it puts into perspective what SovietWomble said in his video essay on DayZ, evangelist alienation, it doesnt happen with SC because of its cohesive vision, so the supporters stick around, less the first wave who didnt expect the huge expansion of the game.
almost 1 year hmmm
Guys chillax its a testbed for them to improve the game. I wish we had this right now but lets face it think 2-4 more years before Star citizen will be in a good starte gameplay and Performance wise.
Honest words, I like it!
You can tell this guy is passionate about theatre of war and I for 1 am very excited for this
OMG its hasn't gone into the same place SATA ball went!!!
And nobody is complaining about it SMH
Don't get too excited yet.
I bet the like on this video will be more than the dislike. Even after they openly say AC and SM are dead modes and they don't want ToW to die with them. Why even keep them around if they don't plan on finishing them.
Arena Commander,
Star Marine
Theaters of War
Star Citizen
Squadron 42
The list of unfinished games grows and grows for CIG
30 frames per second is not "FPS fidelity", that is barely okay for a civilian flight sim or a city builder.
That’s basically what he said. That it’s a bare minimum for any gaming and needs to be much higher.
I appreciate the update and the time the devs take out to give us these updates. o7
All I see are excuses
Once this is introduced into the game it will also push people to want to train and practice more in Star Marine. Will Star Marine be reviewed and worked on to fix bugs and bring it up to snuff? Thank you. Theaters looks amazing.
After Theaters of War, of cource. I know that is the main focus.
@@conscious_kyle6688 seen the evocati leaked vid. Its really not that big. Nothing compared to planetside
@@conscious_kyle6688 "such a large" FPS arena =/= size of useful play area. Most of the planet is useless nothingness.
