    I'm pulling my trans in August when I have time off. I lost 5th and reverse a year ago and have been rocking it like that. The throw out bearing is toast too it's making some crazy noise. I'll at least take a good look at 5th and see if there is anything damaged. There is some kind of a factory defect on these for 5th. I have a new clutch/flywheel and other parts all ready to go. I could get another car but just don't want to. Going to keep driving the balt.

      That's crazy. When I had my 94' Z28 I lost reverse and 6th. I was told it was the synchros that gave out. Usually these F35 transmissiond are reliable.Good luck doing that big job! Thank you for watching!

    Great video brother. And good choice on the royal purple maxx gear oil.

      Thank you Chad! It really made a difference. When i shift and when I put it in reverse. The gears feel sooth a glass in between and it doesnt catch / grind going into reverse. But it could also be the placebo effect.

    Seeing that 75W90 is being used in the video, must be a manual transmission Cobalt.
    The automatic transmission Cobalt uses Dexron VI or later Dexron ATF, available at the Good Wrench parts shop.

    • @jimjones4189
      @jimjones4189 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the manual uses Dexron VI as well, I would now I have one. And R.P is def not supposed to be used when Dexron VI is called for.

      Use redline in the cobalt ss. The normal cobalts are a whole different car than the ss (supercharged or turbo cars)

    The metal on the trans plug is just the syncros. If previous owner grinded gears a bit youll get that. Just take care of it going forward

    • @PonysGarage
      @PonysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I drove it for a while with the 75w-90 never had an issue. It actually helped with when I would put it in reverse it would grind. After I put it in it stopped grinding. I ended up changing out the RP about 4000 miles later because I wanted to see what was the condition of the fluid. I now am currently running VALVOLINE SYNCHROMESH MTF . THe Royal Purple is good stuff. Thanks for watching.

    Let us know how it drives! I'm about to swap clutes to a clutch masters stage 3. Changing the trans oil then. Was thinking of going OEM with the fluid. Depending on how your ss drives, I might go RP instead.

      So far that I have driven it, it feels sooth a glass in between shifts. And it help with this grinding noise when I put it in reverse. The fluid does feel a bit heavier if that makes sense. But over all the car feels great but it could also be the placebo effect 😄

      Your car calls for Dexron VI only. Not only that but R.P Max ATF specifically warns AGAINST using were Dexron VI is called for. Trust me I own this very car NO MATTER IF IT'S AUTO OR MANUAL both call for DEXron VI. Also it doesn't matter if it's a base Cobalt or SS Auto or manual only Dexron VI i cant stress that enough.

    I got a question for you man. When you replaced your water pump did that get rid of any over heating issues you might of been having? I'm having heating issues still after replacing my rad, thermostat and doing a coolant flush. My front housing seems to be leaking so I'm assuming my water pump is the cause of my heating issues and I want fix it before I put my supercharger on the car.

    • @PonysGarage
      @PonysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chad I haven't replaced the water pump yet. Its still on my list of things to do. It doesn't over heat it just leaks coolant. To do that job is too involved and I am not too comfortable doing it. You have to get a special tool for the timing sprocket and I am not going to do all that lol. I am going to to take it to a shop near me and have them deal with that stress. if you get it done sooner than me let me know how it goes brother!

    Hey just wondering does your car's supercharger whine as loud as one with a cold air intake? I'm thinking of putting a stock airbox back on my car to make it more original, but don't wanna take away the loudness of the supercharger whine. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it sounds with the stock air intake.

      My Cobalt has the OEM air box, all I did was just replace the filter for a K&N OEM filter. You can kind of hear a whine when I get on it 😄. I'm trying to keep the car Factory as possible with some upgrades that would make sense. I love hearing the whine sound of the supercharger but the route I'm taking won't allow it. I hope your not putting that in the 5 speed manual, only Dexron VI is acceptable. R.P will specifically tell you not to use R.P max ATF when Dexron VI is called for. Trust me I now I own one with the 5 speed manual 100% only Dexron VI. What you're doing now is cutting the life span of your trans in half, if your lucky SMH. No matter what you have automatic or manual both call for Dexron VI doesn't matter is you have a base Cobalt or an SS they all call for Dexron VI. If your looking for the best Dexron VI Valvoline synthetic Dexron VI is your best bet. Trust me drain that shit out you can thank me latter when your not having to rebuild your trany.

      Jim Jones: How do you know that Dexron VI is the fluid recommended by GM for a manual transmission in a Cobalt/G5? The user's manual calls out a GM part number for the fluid and does not specify anything related to any Dexron fluid.
