the emotional connection i have to this album is insane. this album is my 2021, so sad yet so endearing. ghostly. This album got me through my senior year when i barely graduated and my mother was finishing chemo for cancer. Lots of stressful things. But this shit HAD ME 😅

Chiefs would meet and bury their weapons as a symbolic gesture of peace.” so the meaning i take from the lyric is basically - if you let go of the past or process previous trauma or forgive something/someone - lavender/something new, beautiful and unexpected can grow from that experience.

watching this was so cathartic - this album was everything to me in 2017-2018 & still is. funeral is one of my all-time songs. so is scott street. so is motion sickness. this album is top to bottom perfection - the production, the vocals, the instrumentation, the LYRICS. what a debut. i loved watching your reactions because it so poignantly reminded me of what it was like to listen to this album for the first time - especially funeral. this album shatters your heart & pulls you in for a hug. it is both so specific & so universal. so glad you gave it a listen.

"Coming up lavender" is referencing her favorite songwriter's song "Coming Up Roses" by Elliott Smith. And when you bury A hatchet, it means, two or more people in a fight have made peace. But she sings "I buried THE hatchet", and lavender, in the language of flowers, means distrust. So "coming up roses" would be a good thing. "coming up lavender" is not. I feel like she's finishing the song explaining there's really no closure in the relationship. And, by the way, the "growling" you hear when Bowie is mentioned is actually a sample from his song "Moss Garden", in the album "Heroes". It's actually the sound of a rocketship.

watching this was so cathartic - this album was everything to me in 2017-2018 & still is. funeral is one of my all-time songs. so is scott street. so is motion sickness. this album is top to bottom perfection - the production, the vocals, the instrumentation, the LYRICS. what a debut. i loved watching your reactions because it so poignantly reminded me of what it was like to listen to this album for the first time - especially funeral. this album shatters your heart & pulls you in for a hug. it is both so specific & so universal. so glad you gave it a listen.
