I had my spinner working but want to change multimouse to 1 in the mame default config file so that I can also use light guns. I changed the config file to reflect "multimouse 1" but you are very brief on what to adjust in mame at 7:30. I am assuming I am supposed to set this in player 1 controls under "Paddle Analog"? No matter what keybind i press it does not map it to the spinner. Almost like its not working but it works in windows.
Under input device assignments > paddle Device assignment = mouse. Then under player one controls is it "paddle analog" that I'm supposed to keymap to? Regardless of what I try it does not allow the spinner to input anything. Spinner does work over the screen for horizontal mouse movement though.
Hi, without me inputting loads of text, any possibility you could guide me regarding Tempest sensitivity on MAME?! I can send you a vid "unlisted" on what issue is, I have it on speed dial 20, sensitivity on 6 in analog settings but the ship still judders, speed around grid seems ok but the faintest touch of the spinner results in ship entering lanes I don't want causing death, something isn't right here :-(

Hello, thank you that’s a useful video. I have a question, is it possible to setup the sensibility of the spinner? Meaning moving few is going fast or going slowly for exemple. Thanks a lot.
Yes, and to be clear, this isn't a "MAME issue", it's an issue with the way that Windows itself enumerates the devices on startup. I'm looking to see if there is a better way, but we'll see. Keep an eye out, because if I figure it out, I'll definitely share :-)
@@MavericksArcade I see yes it's a bit confusing how that works. Wish there was a better way. Microsoft needs to fix this asap. Please post a video if you do find a better way.
Chuck, much thanks for all these videos. Setup a cabinet a few years back...so these are nice refresher video for sure! On this cabin, I have added a spinner. I got the USB PCB for it, but if I can just simply connect to my Ultimarc Ulitimate I/O via connector...all the better to free up 1 USB on my MB. So with that being said, how can you change how the spinner acts in this connection...by default in the video looks to move up/down. Would like left/right. Much thanks
The PCB for the SpinTrak is a specific one that goes left/right. I noticed the same behavior when I was building a test spinner with spare parts. When I used the wrong PCB I noticed that behavior.
Have you been able to solve this? I have the same issue. I don't have a USB interface board, just using the Ultimate I/O. The spinner moves the mouse up and down and I can't figure out how to make it go left/right in mame and other games.
I was just on ultimarc's website and the spintrack listing says it does not come with the head, I have two external usb arcade sticks that I pan to mod by taking out a button on them and replacing with a spinner on both, how big is the large head vs the medium head?
Great video. Got here from the Ultimarc site. I'm thinking of doing a build for Discs of Tron, which uses a weighted flywheel like this, except the wheel also responds to Pull and Push input. Do you know of a wheel that has that capacity (or is there a way to do so with this SpinTrak)? Many thanks.
I don't know of a wheel with push pull off hand, as far as is there a way, there's always a way :-) There's one guy online who took Ultimarc U360, and added rotary, top-fire, RGB, and servos it's crazy! But, to answer your question, no, not off-hand. Chuck
Hey Chuck. Love the videos! I think I've watched them all. I wanted to share with any future viewers that after I did all of this, I still had to go into Mame, Configure Machine, Advanced Options and turn on the mouse and multi-mouse, for each game even after I turned it on in the mame.ini file. I'm using Mame .198.
Question, did you have to modify the games AFTER you made the multi-mouse change to the main config? What I've been telling people is after they change the default commands, to delete the CFG file for the individual game so it takes the parent settings automatically.
Yes, I had to change them individually after I made the main edit. And to your point, I believe that's because I had already made other types of edits, which created the individual games' .cfg files. ...so you're right, I think you would need to delete the game .cfg files OR (if you made other game edits you don't want to lose) change it manually on each game.
I believe this would depend on preference. The larger the flywheel the harder the force will be when spinning. If it's too big for the player it may be harder to stop it from a huge spin. If you have little kids playing the arcade it could hurt their wrists... would be my guess. I don't have the flywheels on my spinner yet, that's coming up in a project soon.
Hi again, right I'm stuck, my spintrak is connected via USB and it moves the cursor left and right on desktop and you can see the cursor moving left and right on the tempest game but it doesn't control the ship/spider in the game, I've gone down to paddle in options but which one do I change as the're are 6: Padal analog, analog dec, analog inc / Padal V analog , V analog dec, V analog inc, options when turning spinner changes to MOUSE 2 X but game is not reponding to left and right movements (I've also changed to "1" in multimouse option), what shall I do now?! I've also changed the paddle option from keyboard to mouse in mame settings under CORE INPUT AUTOMATIC ENABLE OPTIONS but still no joy of moving ship.
Sorted! Finally! Seemed I had to set not only multimouse to 1 but also normal mouse to 1 AND paddle_device to MOUSE (it was set to keyboard before). If I get any further issues I will get in touch :-)
The MAME folder is whereeever you placed it during the initial install. However, if you purchased a drive or pre-built system, this could be wherever the builder decided to place it. Sorry I don't have a specific answer for you.
I've been following your videos for my first BIG cabinet build and you're an absolute lifesaver with these!!!!! So thank you. Now, concerning logical steps, what would come first? Setting different device IDs or configuring this MAME config file? Or does it not matter?
Great video and awesome advice, my question is how do you connect this or original older spinners with a ps2 and usb to a ipac 4?, should I splice it?, need your help badly. Don't wanna spend money on unnecessary wires, plugs and pins, thanks for your time.
The USB connector is an adapter, natively the device connects through pins. If you look at the website, the spinner natively has a jumper block of pins. The USB device that connects to it is just a mini controller. You would need to identify which wire serves which purpose www.ultimarc.com/SpinTrak.htm For further support on that, I would recommend reaching out to Ultimarc, they're great about helping out :-)
Only because I haven't gotten around to that test/video yet :-) i will be testing and trying it out in future videos :-) but no, it's just a feel thing... for some games where long spins may be necessary it helps keep it going :-)
If you're using a different spinner, then the pattern may not be the same. If you're looking how to connect it to the iPAC, then I would look up the connections on the iPAC board
The cable that connects the spinner to the iPac board is really short. I've noticed this with their trackball ipac cable as well. Isn't that an issue when putting it in a control panel: that you need the ipac board pretty much right beside the spinner and trackball? Or do they provide an extender cable or something?
On my setup I had the USB controllers so the cable length to the iPac board didn't affect me. However, if you are connecting the pins to the board you can use extension cables (which Ultimarc does sell) or you can splice the wires to make them longer. I have used CAT5/6 network cable and that seems to work well.
I have not tried that one yet, it doesn't look complicated, but personally, I just hook up my PS4 ThrustMaster when I want to play some driving games. If you're making a dedicated driving cabinet, you probably wouldn't be swapping parts anyway, no?
I havent' had direct experience with this, but if it is setup to recieve a trackball, then it should work. But you may want to ask Andy at Ultimarc before purchasing just to be sure. Your question was directly addressed in the following video livestream: th-cam.com/video/sz2aFDKPjZc/w-d-xo.html
As it turns out.. it works perfectly. You just have to solder the proper cables from the spintrak to the trackball connector. ie: trackball connector expects up/down, left/right signals. You just need to wire spintrack to left right (and 5v and ground).
