Justin Boller don't see a lot of panels being repaired to a metal finish these days. Everyone just slaps mountains of filler on and calls it a day. It's a damn shame.
Excellent repair Arthur. Up to complete Mercedes-Benz standards. I do like your use of the seam sealer looks real factory. Also the corrosion inhibitor is an excellent choice for protection. Once again you sure get to work on the nice cars. Thanks for a great video and take care.

legioner9 You can weld whatever you want. Mercedes and most OEMs do not recommend this type of repair. That really doesn’t mean much, this repair is only going to be a problem in a very serious accident. Even then it may be okay. The OP said it was a Mercedes type repair, it is not.

As usual, an excellent repair. The front rail, (right) has been repaired in such a way, that the crush/crumple zones remain intact, with no reinforcement added - which WOULD reduce the effectiveness of those zones. Seam sealer applications approximate that which was applied at the factory, and the painting/corrosion protection virtually restores the structural's to their pre-collision standards. Q: Have the repairs made to the structural components changed the integrity of that structure? A: Of course there is a difference, however, no spot-welded seams were interfered with, and the displacement of the press-formed components remained substantially the same, with the exception that the cutting, straightening, and welding have altered their hardness (probably annealed) to some degree. When you consider the option of removing the power train, firewall-mounted components/systems, tower-mounted components/systems. Not to mention the fact that splitting the factory spot-welded seam(s), preparing the new panel, and welding using the two approved methods, button-hole MIG-or-TIG welding/spot welding at specified weld diameters (BOTH, at published amperage/time on weld settings), changes the tensile/compression, and load bearing strength of the firewall. A final, but very important concern, is the fact than most heavy-hit repair personnel, seldom perform depth of weld penetration testing, or pull-testing to determine the tensile strength factor(s) involved.

The rail is high strength steel, no welding is allowed. Typically Mercedes replacement rails are riveted in.
