Your comment "the world just disappears" says it all and describes exactly what it does for me. It's a year since I bought my first camera at age 57 and it's changed my world. Its been a hard few years for my family with health issues and photography has been a saviour and escape. Your videos are the next best thing when I can't get out. Thank you.

My answer has always been “because I can’t sing or dance”. I’ve always been envious of talented people who can draw, paint, act, write etc. I have no particular entertainment skills but photography allows me to share the beauty and wonder of nature with others. It’s truly a privilege to be out in nature and be able to capture and share its wonders and beauty.

For me, photography started off as a hobby. It grew into a pseudo obsession. Now it serves as my therapy, mental reboot and I seek to use it as a living record of all I have seen and done. My hope is that when I am long gone from this world that someone can see some of my life and feel the same joy of what I've seen as I did when taking the pictures.

There is nothing better than getting up early in the morning and wandering through the bush looking for those elusive birds. What you said and what everyone else said, sums it up for me. I really do forget everything when I have my camera in my hand - even indoors taking pics of birds through the back window on a rainy day - I get absolutely engrossed. I suffer with pain in varying degrees each day and photography has really helped. I am sure the adrenalin rush when I see something special and get a photo of it is like a medicine - the pain just dissolves (although it always comes back after a while!) Photography is the best medicine in all respects! Love your photos, and the Australian birds are SO colourful. I think the fairy wrens and the pink robin are my favourites. Wish we had them in the UK!

Living in the U.S. midwest area, I never really noticed the birds around me while growing up. I saw Blackbirds, Blue Jays Robins and Cardinals, but it wasn't until I got my camera and went out to make some photos that I met real birders and began to learn about all the things I have been missing. If they have been there all this time and I didn't notice them, imagine what I will find tomorrow.

Photography is my form of meditation.
I found it 1 year ago this week, purely out of luck. I’m in such a busy corporate world and getting up at 4am to wait for the morning light for birding or even landscapes, or chasing the Aurora Australis at night, allows me to completely tune out, relax and be 100% in the moment. No thought of work!

I am 72 and started taking photographs since i was 8, always my dream to be a photographer full time but illness put paid to that in my thirties. couldn't afford the film and processing, had to sell my pair of of EOS 9s. Been in wheelchair since my late thirties,. thought I would never hear that shutter click again and then along came digital. Went through couple of fuji bridge cameras, Then got the chance to buy Nikon D7200. Loved that camera. There was to begin with a bit of frustration, very limited where you can get in a wheelchair but found hides that catered for chairs and with second hand Tamron 150- 600 got huge pleasure from phytography once again. Not the greatest lens, big miss rate but now and again get a keeper. D7200 packed up on me and couldn't be fixed. managed to get z50. Even less keepers but still driven to take pics, and now and again get the one that makes it worthwhile. Its a combination of having a reason to go out and seeing what I love. I live in the south of England UK and don't have the variety of birds in other countries such as Australia but have to keep clicking because just maybe that day i will get a keeper. i will just keep pressing that shutter until I cant. Love your videos and your enthusiasm is infectious. became a member today.

Hi Duade another great video. Photography is in my blood. My grandfather was a professional photographer in the 1930s in England. I am lucky enough to have his first camera that he brought a Thornton Picard triple extension field camera, half plate glass negative. I have a few images that he captured with that camera negative and print. One of the best is a skyline of London, during the blitz, where you can see the glow of the fires, and the anti-aircraft exploding in the air.
Your comments in regards to Mental Health resonated with me. Unfortunately I suffer PTSD, major depression and anxiety. Being able to see the beauty of this planet that we live on through the viewfinder definitely helped me with my journey through Mental Health been able to see the beauty, not just the darkness. Unfortunately the darkness has returned of late and watching your videos has definitely shone a light, forcing me to pick up my R5 and get out and photograph. The last time I was out burning I was extremely fortunate to go to Serendip in Lara with my son. What a fantastic day we had photographing the birds. It was a new experience for him, his first time, playing with a camera and lens of better quality than just a phone or a point and shoot.
Again, thank you very much for your videos. I really enjoy watching them and learning.

Love sunrise. It, of course, is one of the most beautiful times of the day. But, I've never been a morning person who can get up before dawn to be somewhere at dawn. I envy those who can. But, any time I'm out in nature doing photography I'm appreciative of the opportunity to be there. I feel relaxed and that I'm where I'm supposed to be.

Photography for me is something I can do. I being paramount. I can create an image of what I see around me. It allows me to be creative and to communicate what I see to others. Being creative is not always possible in our day to day lives. For me, as a tax accountant, being creative is a no-no! But when I pick up my camera, if I am creative I am applauded (well sometimes).

Good morning Duade, at least here in Alliston Ontario Canada. I find total peace and relaxation, when I’m out taking photo’s of wildlife, be it birds or animals and landscapes. When walking around at my destination, I’m all alone, in my mind all I see is my next subject to photograph. My wife may be with me sometimes but rarely, as she is a survivor. I do have some issue’s myself but they just disappear when I’m out walking about, looking my next subject. I totally forget, how long I’ve been walking around, and forget to check the time. If my wife is with me I make sure she’s safe and enjoying the things we see and come across.
I find your video’s informative and very helpful. It’s a real joy watching you, seeing how excited you get when you see a subject to photograph. Thank you for all your excitement, your smile, and detail of information on camera gear. A great photography show too watch always.
Take care and be safe when walking bout on your ventures.

I need that feeling again, that the madness of the world just melts away listening to the wildlife. It's the best way to lower blood pressure. Early morning light, the sound of nature, a cup of coffee or tea and maybe, just maybe, a chance to take some pictures. I need that antidote again.

I love Lake Moodemere, it's an awesome little spot. Good idea to get there early before the water skiers turn up. I'm not sure if you've heard of Forest Bathing, in a nutshell, it's communing with the forest and nature to be recharged by its energy, photography is the perfect recipe to combine both. Keep up the great work. All the best. PS I had a big smile on my face when I heard the sacred Kingfishers in the background. Cheers.

I grew up fortunate to have 6 small ponds with trails all around them directly out my living room window across my road. I spent so much time fishing, hiking, walking across the frozen ponds, etc.
When I grew up and moved away, I moved to the edge of a city in the midwest and no longer had that trail out my front door for the first time ever...eventually I wasn't getting out very often once I had hiked a lot of the trails in my new home. One day, I decided to go to a place I visit semi-frequently and saw a barred owl. I hadn't seen one in YEARS and it was less than 10 feet from me. I knew my mom had some old gear sitting around her place collecting dust, so once I got ahold of it, I went back to that dirt road I had seen it on and sure enough, I found one a mile or so down the road from there and I was HOOKED.
I've probably seen 60 barred owls since then, 18 months ago. I've photographed pretty much every larger mammal in my area at least once and seen over 200 bird species without travelling over 90 minutes. Holding a camera has changed my entire life perspective in a huge manner. I feel closer to nature than I have since I was a pre-teen and it's a fantastic feeling, for sure. I could not overstate how much I have learned about wildlife in the process too. One day I had a local wildlife biologist ask if I was also one haha. I guess not many younger dudes are watching birds without working in the field.

Some of the reasons I like photography are:- travel the world, getting out of the house, seeing things I otherwise wouldn't see, meeting people, post processing, the serenity & wonder of certain places & it's pointless having excess money in your bank account (an inheritance is a bonus, not an expectation).

Duade most of the TH-cam channel I subscribe too are wildlife and landscape photography channels (toss in a few cooking and technology channels (retired Electronical Engineer)). But as a hobbyist photographer, most of my photography is during travel, family events and now chasing the grandkids. My main hobby is playing golf with my friends and enjoy the competition. But to me photography is all about the memories I capture when traveling with my wife, family and friends. So the pleasure and mental relief you get from your chosen hobby (golf, photography, fishing and travel for me) is a blessing that we all should cherish. As always another great video Duade!!!!!

Luckily I do not suffer from mental health problems but I love taking my camera out on a sunny day to my local reserve. You get away from it all and leave the world behind. I prefer Insects to Birds and it is always a thrill when you see something new. You also meet people of the same interest so apart from enjoying nature you get social interaction. Getting back home, downloading and then uploading to the internet is also a major part of my photographic enjoyment. A most satisfying hobby.

It makes me happy. I have spent much of my life and feel comfortable in the bush. For me admiring natural landscapes and their occupants and being in that world is good for the soul. Bird photography gives me purpose and allows me to be immersed in the natural environment and take a little piece home. It's challenging and therefore worthy. Birds are characters and most are beautiful. Wading through the many many very ordinary photos for that one or two that are gems is very rewarding. Great video Duade.

Photography for me allows me to escape as well. I love just getting out and shooting. Thinking about perspectives and how others see the same world as I do from their own unique view. Along with physical exercise and playing guitar, photography has really become so important to my life and mental health. Being able to capture a moment in time from a unique view to me is just amazing.
Your presentation and channel are truly helpful to many. Creating a community of like minded people, helping each other overcome hardships with creativity is inspiring. I mentioned in another comment in a previous video I am a recovering heroin addict and spent a few hellish years living on the street. After the hard life I've had, it's easy to feel negative and think that most people are just inherently evil, though I know it's not true.
Seeing you stay so positive and genuine after hearing your story of your severe health difficulties, it really does help me along. I think the true test of character is how people respond to unfair hardships. Some people use them to justify bad behavior while it motivates others to leave the world better than we found it. I really appreciate your candor in all your videos Duade. You are an all around great guy and it really shines through. Keep it up man!

Why photography? Composition. My niche, the art of composition. I have the kit to reach birds and it's fun. When my retina detached, the only thing that got me through the horrific recovery was hope, and my camera. While trying to heal I found art in a beautiful yellow hibiscus blossom on the porch. I'm 80 now. The retina thing left my vision slightly blurry; but I can still compose and thanks to auto focus it comes together. And, it keeps me going. I just pre-ordered a Canon RF 200-800. Never give up! It takes a muse to ignite one's sensibilities to the abounding sights, that's all.

I started wildlife photography after i ended my first relationship three years ago. I was in a slump and needed something new that pushed me to go outside. Luckily my best friend recently got into photography, so i bought a used canon eos 500d (rebel t1i) and a tamron 70-300 and off i went. Got really lucky the fist or second time out and, without really knowing anything about my settings, i captured one of my best pictures of a woodpecker to this day. I was hooked right away. The joy and somewhat meditative aspect of being in nature and just absorbing its beauty is why i go out.

It's a way to preserve memories when we are out in the mountains or anywhere in the world. Catching moments of happiness, harmony or just being overwhelmed while watching eagles or reds milan how they are playing with they're element in the air. I'm since a few month retired and I'm happy to have finally enough time to go out when ever it's useful during day or night. It's about ... "the world is yours to explore" ... to me😊! Have fun and keep on going. Your Swiss friend, Marco :-)

Great video Duade, so many positive messages from your members. Photography without a doubt has so many benefits. I loved the Apostle Birds at the end, every year we camp near Mount Surprise in Far North Queensland and they are great form of entertainment and photographic subject for our family, we all love to watch their behavior and film/photograph them.

We share the world with all those amazing species. We are the lucky ones to be welcomed by them when they pose for our photos. This is enjoying the real world, away from our built environment, that reduces our sense of reality. Thanks for such a heartfelt video. Your channel is a celebration of the chance of being out there. Keep it going. Cheers

I've always been into photography since I was about 14 or 15 and I used to always go to the airport to take photos of planes but it got too repetitive and I was getting frustrated because I couldn't get the shots I wanted. I stopped doing photography and as a result became a little more unhappy in life but then I picked my camera back up when I saw an eastern spine bill sitting in a gum tree at the top of my driveway and since then I've been going out every weekend and shooting all kinds of animals from birds to possums and frogs. This has made my life so much better than when I wasn't doing photography. Thank you for all the awesome content you've been releasing. I love watching your videos.

My cheeky answer would be because I can’t draw :). Serious answer would be to remind myself that in this turbulent world that beauty still exists all around us and photography is a way to capture and hold on to that and to share it. I do it for selfish reasons because it makes me better, but if it enriches someone else’s day in a small way, even better!

I'm a PhD student in biology. I work with birds (zebra finches) every day. Going out there, looking at all the wildlife in its natural habitat that is shrinking so fast. I hope that with my photos I can remind people, some of which have never seen a green woodpecker, a crane or other animals why we do what we do for conservation. Why it's so important to escape the city from time to time but also not to bring the city closer to the wild.
Moreover, photography lets you interact with animals in ways you'd never be able to otherwise. Closing the distance, bringing intimacy between you and the animal as if you were one of them. This is the closest you can get to what it's like inside their heads.

Photography has been a hobby of mine for years. I guess I never really thought about the why I love it that much, but one of my reasons would be I love highlighting beauty. If it is the beauty in people, the beautiful sunset, the beautiful flowers or birds and even the tiny insects that we walk by every day without even seeing, there is so much to highlight and share with others so they can also enjoy. I think Rebecca said it perfectly about finding beauty in unexpected places and the overlooked beauty. The world has a way to put people and things to a side if they don't live up to their standard and they get rejected and sometimes even pushed out of society as being ugly and worthless and that hurts. So if I can capture the beauty in every day places and circumstances, I can also help those rejected to show their beauty.

Funny, being out in nature doesn't cause me to escape reality, it just confirms my place within it. My issues, my frets, my worries are miniscule compared to the larger reality of our planet and the life on it. When I'm out in it, I know exactly where I fit. It resets the meter.

Firstly many thanks for your amazing work. This video made me grin ear to ear and looking at the comments below should reiterate the pleasure people are gaining from your work and being in nature. I grew up in Wales and lived in Africa for 25 years and have been in New Zealand for the last 30. Getting into photography in the last 15 it provides me something to look forward to at every opportunity. In NZ there are limited species as you'd know but just having the time out in nature with them is good for the soul. Saving hard for a new camera and big prime (second hand) to make sure I can do the model justice... good shooting and keep up the good work.

Hi Duade, for me this is one of your best.
I'm now in my mid 70's & I've recently lost a couple of close friends & there's been moments when I wonder how much time I have left myself.
To get out with my camera & regardless of the photo quality I get, I find it so calming to see scenery that should last forever, (providing man doesn't destroy it).
I guess all hobbies can have a similar effect on us but just as some of your members mentioned, photography takes nothing from the environment, it records it.
I wonder if in many years to come people will have access to see these pics because they won't be stored as photos saved in a shoebox as my parents & grandparents used to do.
Anyhow thanks again for sharing, it's made my day better already.
    Cheers

Beautiful and uplifting video Duade. It's great to hear your thoughts and others about photography. I was like yourself and got into photography through getting back outside after an illness. Actually You said everything (and actualy people in comments as well). Photography is like running - you don't need to spend a lot of money to do it and you can start right here, right now - wear shoes/take camera and go out. I loved photography many years ago when I started to walk through the mountains. Only walking in mountains can be boring, sometimes you see something special, something rare - you want to save it and share with people as well.
