A fascinating viideo about Venezuela's capital, Caracas.
During the second half of the 19th century, president and dictator Antonio Guzman Blanco (b. 28 February 1829 in Caracas - 28 July 1899 in Paris, France) has left his footprint on Venezuela and especially its capital during his rule (1870-88).
He had railways built, one of them connecting Caracas to the coastal city of La Guaira. In the capital itself, the Capitolio and the Teatro Municipal were just a handful of new building, and Avenida Bolivar, the main arterial. Other legacies of Guzman Blanco's dictatorship was the bolivar (currency), Gloria al Pueblo Bravo (national anthem) and required but free-of-charge education.
Greetings Elizabeth, thanks for looking and commenting, yes, this president began the modernization not only of Caracas but of the entire country, but historical circumstances prevented him from finishing his plans. I see that you are well documented on the history of Venezuela, I invite you to continue this series because it is not finished yet.
