    A few months ago, I decided to wake up half an hour early and spend the time relaxing and listening to myself. By the time my normal wake up occurs, I'm not stressed, I know what I need to do during the rest of the day and I'm not in a major rush.
    Meditation, Sitting aside yourself, whatever you call it- squeeze in some time at the start of your day to meditate and calm down. It's a great feeling.

    Just to add a related point - several other teachers and talks have talked about living "down in the heart" and not "up in the head". That helps a lot too. If you can sit with yourself and get in touch with your "heart" (physically lower point than brain and neck) you will be able to be pretty happy for some time and with peace. You will not be able to reach there the first day, so don't give up in few days. May take weeks or months depending on how restless / "driven" you are. The more unambitious you are while sitting, the clearer your mind is the rest of the day while working.

    I had these same thoughts. 6 years ago I began the 8 Minute Meditation. I too was dealing with the same issues you are. These 8 minutes gave me the time to think of how I "responded" to all this "stimulus" that Barbara talks about, that was in my mind (life). I found that the time with myself, doing "nothing" (so against my character and upbringing) was more productive and powerful than I could ever have imagined. It is I believe sometimes just letting go - having faith - belief in abundance that changes our lives. Yes, it is hard work, there are obstacles along the way and even setbacks. But it can be done!

    I love this concept and try hard to achieve control of my reactions. I so want to be more than reactive. I can think about how to enjoy my day. When under pressure it’s all too late I have already spewed out a reaction and then live with regret.
    Where can I go to learn more?

    Great...What if you have several small children and are a single parent. In addition, what if one child has a disability and you are "it." What if you are under financial strain, and you don't the have time nor money for this. This is splendid...but many in poverty have not time to sit, no opportunities to study under a guru...what is your advice for them? Furthermore, many have no internet access...,.what can you do for them? These people count too.

    • @barbaraschmidt4047
      @barbaraschmidt4047 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wendy Mcreynollds All beings count so much! Thank you for your very heartfelt comments and questions. My answer regardless is we must find a way to be connected to ourselves within. If we are disconnected from ourselves we are always at the mercy of the external world. We don't need money to sit down every day and spend time in silence with ourselves even for just a few minutes, even if we have children- I had a baby when I started, and I was going through a divorce, but I knew that this was the way I would find my way home. It's hard, it's a practice but little by little in the sitting we begin to feel strong and confident. I hope this helps- sending you love.

    • @camuscat123
      @camuscat123 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Barbara Schmidt It may not cost money to sit in silence with ourselves, but qualified direction, internet access, literacy, isolation, desperation, and geography isolate so many from such an awareness of understanding the valuable resource within. I think there is tremendous value in your statements...and still...I fear it is lost so many in need. We are all of equal worth...we all are dust in the end...Thank you so much for your response. I deeply appreciate it. You are a blessing!
