Jess, another thing about the east coast is that we clear out pine trees and keep the hardwoods. Interestingly, I’ve watched videos of folks in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and surrounding states that cut hardwoods and save pine trees. Here in northeast Georgia, we know that pines have shallow roots and fall easily, grass doesn’t grow very well under them, they are easily destroyed by pine beetles, and they have little shade. We cherish the shades of the oaks and other hardwoods and appreciate their sturdiness to stand for even 100 years! Welcome to the east coast!!

    • @thistlemoon1

No kidding about the shallow roots. We’ve had 2 fall on our house in 10 years.

Very true. I’m in central NC and we call it tornado alley. To expound on your thought Dr B,, when we have hurricanes, accompanying rain, and the subsequent tornadoes, the pines fall easily.

Magnet idea.... some empty pots or green stalk and then some of those small veggies in kits so the kiddos (or grown kiddos) can arrange on the fridge and can rearrage as they want. Like a fridge garden! 💗 ETA maybe some garden bugs too! So the kids can send out the lady bugs after the aphids 🤣

@@nadiajames3883 My German step-mother’s parents had a stone summer kitchen with big, screened windows for summer canning and jelly making, but it was its own little standalone building out back by the pond with a 3/4 bath and enough space for a double bed and a sofa, so they added a little wood stove and made a tiny guest house out of it. We also used it in December for baking Christmas cookies with all the women and kids together around a bunch of folding tables, and all of us kids in our pajamas, rolling out sugar cookies and making pressed almond cookies. Sugar sprinkles and the family cookie cutter collection spread out everywhere. Their big Akita, Honshu, kept knocking cookie cutters off the table with his big, curly tail… It was a lovely, cozy mess that I remember very fondly even 30 years later. ❤️

Jess- I just wanted to say that you radiate so much passion and joy when you talk about the things you love (family and friends, gardening, animals, your farm, etc), even when your life is as hectic as it is right now, and I simply adore you for that. You fuel my love and motivation to garden in the small eighth-of-an-acre property that I live on here in Massachusetts; when I watch your videos I feel like I get to connect with you even though we are complete strangers. Over the past year I have learned so much from you as a gardener and continue to learn more from you each day. I am 18 years old & moving on to college in the fall (to a college a couple towns over) so I hope I can continue to spend time in the garden during my time as a student & make the most out of the time left I have at home & the garden before I move on in life. One day I aspire to have a big beautiful farm and garden just like you. So thank you for sharing your beautiful life with us, and I wish you the best with your upcoming move.

I am so excited for you! It is extremely tiring but it is equally fulfilling what you’re doing! I hope you feel the prayers of your “friends” here, every time you are on the road traveling. I know we don’t know exactly the date, but I’m telling you , the Lord puts it on my heart to pray harder for you at certain times. Jess and Miah, WE BLESS YOU! ❤️😁🤟

It's really happening! This is so exciting! You are on the home stretch of your move. I'm continuing to pray for safe travels for you all as you go back and forth from Arkansas to South Carolina, praying for your dad's health, and for good weather and a successful move with all the animals (and children!). :-D Oh, and magnets... Yay!

Plant a bleeding heart ❤️ bush please. It is a favorite of mine that I have never achieved planting. I am 61 and do not see the possibility for that in my future. I would be honored to my core Jess. God bless you folks. 🙏🙏🙏💝

Re: hydrangeas. North Carolina, here. The hydrangea I planted about 18 years ago has never been watered by anything but whatever rain falls. I plunked it in the ground and let Ma Nature take care of it, and she does a lovely job. ;)

He is hard-working, smart, kind, loves children and animals.....and he has all his teeth !! What more could a farm girl want? LOL !! Regards, Alice

I can’t imagine how excited you guys are about the move! I’m not moving and can’t wait for the new videos about the new property and learning how to grow in that area and deal with whatever garden issues are prevalent in that area! Great for new gardeners who are starting.

I have no idea what the humidity is like in SC. It is fierce in most of the South. It does Wonderous things with my hair! We are in TN. Our humidity wasn't so bad today! You are going to love the sounds in the evening around your ponds!
Rent a "Ditch Witch" to make the trenches for your watering needs. Put them 2 1/2 to 3 ft down. Was one of the best investments we ever made. Also, for Electricity all over the place, Danny ran electric in PVC and put outlets around when I felt I might need them! Having the Electricity in different places has saved us a lot of time, energy and headaches!
Love the idea of Hydrangeas! Hope your trip home was safe!
    GOD bless

Lime lite hydrangea is a great idea too.
Ask your neighbours about bears too. If they are a bother or not too. Then plan for them in the future too. Just suggestions. Love you guys. Bless yous. In God's Grace. Sending healing prayers for your Dad too.

We went to a reunion in Pine Bluff and we had our boys with us, who went out gathering crystals. At the time they were 2 and 4.
They are now 19 and 22 and I am still finding those crystals all over my house and property.
They had buckets full that they brought home 😊

I suggest planting Nastutrium in the front entryway. They're not only beautiful but they're edible. They also will thrive without a lot of sun or watering. In fact, they seem to love neglect.

May I suggest a mulberry tree if it would do well there? I personally love mulberries but I've also found that with a mulberry tree birds will prefer eating them over the large fruit on other trees and the berries that are low to the ground

I had a few mulberry trees at my previous house and I used the berries and the leaves. The birds and groundhogs loved them, too. But don't put them too close to a driveway...it gets VERY messy!!

Hydrangeas are a great idea! Paniculated varieties are the easiest. Limelight will get about 8 ft x 8 ft. Little lime is a little smaller. Strawberry shortcake is about 5 x 5 and turns a pretty pink as the flowers fade.

So excited to see you all transitioning into your new home & land. I can't wait to see how it develops and what fun things you do! Just a quick tip (which you have probably already thought of) don't forget to fence those new yummy fruit trees from the deer! It's always tragic to spend so much time and love planting new trees only to have them be a tasty snack for passing deer!

I have a rock garden full of rocks and minerals my girls found on our many hikes and Kayla trips as they were growing. The stars of the show are the giant chunks of rose quartz they found in Arkansas! Quartz has healing power and clears negative energy.
