I know Ubiquiti has a lot of inexpensive accessories but I cant wrap my head around using this additional controller software to do minor functions instead of just being able to log directly into the device. I've been using Sonicwall devices and was excited to try this stuff, but when I received it and set it up, I shipped them all back so fast lol. I tried to create another subnet for a guest network and it drove me nuts, couldnt do it. On a Sonicwall, takes me less than 2 minutes, someone in the Ubiquiti forums offered to help me with this trivial task and went out of his way to remote in and configure it, took him like 2 hours. I was cracking up, thanked him for his time and shipped it all back. I still dont understand how this company structures it's equipment. Ya get what ya pay for I guess.
you should share in a video how you did the igmp proxy (multicast) for BT video on the USG 4 Pro.. most other IPTV providers use the same waynof distributing their channels so it can be useful for many
I've used the standard USG's before, but not the Pros. I use a cloud-hosted controller with my setup. Can you tell me if the USG Pro can access a cloud-based controller setup? (I understand the Dream Machine Pros can not).
A video I watched recently said, or at least made it seem like, the USG Pro 4 and EdgeRouter Pro were going to have many of the same features. What do prefer over the USG Pro vs. the EdgeRouter Pro, and why? If the EdgeRouter Pro is more advanced, why switch.. aside from the cloud monitoring?
cloud monitoring and integration with the Unifi controller were the main reasons for me to switch. there is a long feature roadmap for the USG with new features to be added
It has 4 ports (LAN1, LAN2, WAN1, WAN2). I recommend you connect a UniFi switch to LAN1 and connect your AP and wired devices there. WAN1 should go to your internet. Edit: Setup requires the 192.168.1.x subnet for discovery
Dear James as far as I understood, you are replacing your edge router pro to this one. What is the main reason?. How can you setup multicast,imp snooping,etc features on this unifi system. Thanks
igmp snooping is available from within the unifi interface, many features that were promised to be able to change from within the cli are not yet available. this product was released to early. I bought it so I could control it from the unifi cloud key however many features are still not available
It replaces your ISP router, but you’ll need some sort of modem between your house phone socket and this device. Most people will pick up a BT openreach modem (in uk) for about £20 on eBay. Alternately, the DrayTech modems are popular as well.

You can purchase a Unifi Key Controller if you have a PoE Port Available somewhere. This will then host the Controller locally without needing to use a server. But I see no issue in you using a server.

I don't think so , you need the original router your company sent you and you don't even have to use it , you just plug it in put a password to it and press forget lol then connect to the unifi controller
No, this is just a gateway. It sits on the edge of the network between the internet and your local area network. It uses the UniFi software which you can purchase access points for in order to get WiFi managed through the portal shown, but would also need a switch in between.

I did have an 8 port Unifi switch but it died on me, I only used 1 port PoE.
