Even though it’s unnecessary for Bea Bennet to be part of this annual, I like that Travis Moore used her to make sure that we get to learn more about her backstory and origins that dates back 20 years, including her mom supposedly getting killed by KGBeast, her being raised by her adopted father, being recruited by Spyral, meeting and forming a romantic relationship with Ric Grayson and keeping tabs on him, and having an interesting life that combines what Benjamin Percy, Dan Jurgens, and Tom Taylor was doing. It’s impressive and well done. I wonder if Bea realized that her biological mother is alive and will tell her why she faked her death to protect her in the final issues of Tom Taylor’s Nightwing run. Also, since Bea was nine years old when her origin started 20 years ago, this makes her 29 years old in the present day.

If a Nightwing love interest isn’t Starfire or Oracle than what’s the point? He’s always going to be tied to one or the other and anyone else is just wasting the readers time.
Does anybody else remember when Dick dated some meta-human fashion model (or something like that) after Infinite Crisis? I doubt most people remember her or could pick her out of a lineup, much less remember her name. What was the point of that? I know Dick was originally supposed to die in Infinite Crisis, so was she supposed to be the girlfriend of a different character? It also reminds me of any Peter Parker love interest who isn’t Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, Felicia, or maybe Betty Brant (I cannot for the life of me remember if Brant were ever a love interest or if she’s always been a supporting character). If you were to ask a fan, “Remember that police officer Peter dated shortly after One More Day? The one who used the Devil’s breath poison to prove her crooked cop father was her real father and not an imposter?” the odds are that more than three-fourths would either stare in confusion or go, “Oh, yeah, what’s-her-name…”
I disagree on Dick being better with a non super hero. I favor him with Babs as ultimately Dick chose to be a Bat. No matter how gar he swings out, he will always return to the Batfamily---and Bat books. Much like many adults who went outside the family, only to realize home was with family and the girl next door. Besides, it contrasts with Bruce who always seems to try "normies" while enticed by villian leaning women. For me, that is what makes Dick a different Batman than Bruce. He see the light in the darkness (a heroine in their dark world) vs Bruce being entralled by the darkness.
I will never let marvel of the hook about one more day. That monstrosity should never have been allowed to be made. I can't discuss anything about DC i am not a reader.
Fans and readers in general continue to grow more selective about where they spend their money while DC and Marvel keep churning disappointment after disappointment. They truly live in a bubble of their own, rejecting what people want to read.
I was walking along today and had a realization: a lot of modern comics and shows today are like Dancing with the Stars casting. See, you look at the casting of DWTS and they seem to follow a pattern. They have at least one person who has had a controversy or otherwise been in the news, at least one member of the LGBT community, one person from The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, at least one athlete, at least one “nostalgic” celebrity, usually one person related to Disney in some way, and usually one person from a non-ABC reality show (like from Bravo or Netflix). A lot of comics and shows follow that same kind of strategy. In theory this should make the comics and shows diverse, but really it leads to tokenism since it’s forced and insincere. This causes even the target audience to turn up their noses since they want realistic and engaging characters with interesting stories & personalities and not the companies going, “Here are some tokens, so now you must love us and you’re bigoted & self-hating if you don’t!” Speaking of DWTS, the actress who played America Chavez was on last season and she seemed personable from what I saw. She wasn’t snooty and cold like some people. I hope she does well in her career.
I'm sorry to say Wes, but I enjoyed the Rick Grayson era, mainly because of the Bea character and when they ended it and treated the character like they did I was pissed off, because I thought she could of still been a love interest of Dick's. But now I'm pissed that I was pissed, because bringing her back and creating this mess of a character, you would need to live a few more life times to do what she has done in her youngish life and I've yet to read the Annual, won't be seeing that until Friday probably! Shows you shouldn't hope for things, as they will be screwed with!
I hate that they have to make all his girlfriends "super", he just isn't allowed to have a relationship with "normal" people, but I'm one to talk, I do this for him in a crossover fanfic I'm writing but that's the thing, my writing's free, you don't have to pay for it, and the super special female love interest has been done to death in fanfic, they must have thought it was a great idea and that it'd sell. LOL.
Fair point about Bea from Nightwing, but bringing in Flatline against a trained Assassin called Damian Wayne to get his butt kicked, there's no way she should've beaten him on the Lazarus Island arc 1st round, as we have already seen Damian Wayne lose his life in the past to be revived.
I can't wait until they reveal that she is actually the younger sister of Wonder Woman who was kidnapped by Amanda Waller as a child. Perhaps then, comic book readers will care about her.
I get taking underutilized characters, even from bad books and runs, and doing something new with them or recreate them if they're very underdeveloped like what's happened in comics many times before (i.e. how BTAS recreated Mr. Freeze or how Snowflame has been getting a resurgence when he was the only good thing from the late 80s New Guardians) but this ain't it Chief. It screams trying too hard to make her "cool" and really feels like a young tween's first Mary Sue fanfic. Taylor, Moore, whoever probably should have just stopped at adopted by Pirates were it can at least parallel Dick beign adopted by Batman. And really waste an Annual for this? Pretty easy to skip it especially with that price and a Nightwing just having a pricey anniversary issue already. Like, I stayed far away from the Ric Grayson run and I'm sure Bea was at least a bright spot but idk how her chances at being remembered for a Dick Love Interest to bring out when they don't have Babs, Kory, Helena , etc around.
This just smacks of somebody's fanfic O.C. I'm completely indie and Manga now. I have enough old stuff, and I'm happy to let go of whatever Marvel and DC spew out.
The cliché of memory loss is so stupid and common in South American tv soap operas, that they are used when the writers no longer know what to do to stretch the soap opera. Tom Taylor is so Bad, he could write a bad soap opera in South America.
They need to stronkify all women into wahmen. Imagine if they made Jimmy Olson a super secret agent that new the entire time that Clark was Superman and was stringing him and Louis along. That feels more plausible than this, though. They're trying to make her the Jane Foster of DC, but everyone hates Jane Foster.
Hey Wes have you read the latest titles from Dynamite? Mainly Thundercats and Space Ghost ? Because speaking of Thundercats , Dynamite annouced a Cheetara centric spin-off by Soo Lee and Domenico Carbone. In other news , Image Comics announced their very first audiobook adaptation of Radiant Black with Will Friedle of Batman Beyond , Kim Possible , Thundercats (2011) (he was the voice of Lion-O) and Boy meets World fame to voice the titular Radiant Black. I for one would prefere the animated show adaptation but because the comic is still ongoing , I'm guessing it will be adapted to animated form after its run is finished. Bacause hey we don't want another Game of Thrones fiasco am I right or am i right?
I prefere to read classic comics. There are a lot of amazing DC OMNIBUS-books out there. I am just reading volume 1 of JSA by Geoff Johns. And I read collection of classic WONDER WOMAN-comics by George Perez. And I just bought volume 1 and 2 of MAN OF STEEL by John Byrne.
Kyle Rayner: I love this GL comic! Alexandra walks out of my fridge in ONE PIECE! Peter Parker: I had a SECOND DAY. Nightwing: I joined Teen Titans GO! Let's have a binge eating contest, Cyborg. Deadpool: Darn. I can't think of any dirty words. Who writes this... bad stuff? Darn, did it again! Punisher: I see gangsters. I kill them. What is so difficult to understand?
I think some writers assume longtime fans know even less about the characters than they do. I mean, somehow they assume they can get away with extremely out-of-character, butt-backwards writing that shows they know Jack all about the characters they were somehow chosen to write.
The comic world just needs to put down this Mary Sue thinking to female characters like old yeller.....then maybe we can get marginally good female characters that can be equal to not better then the male ones....
I am finally out of the industry and not looking back. What a dumpster fire and sad joke the whole thing has become. The only salvation that comics has in the west is if people embrace independent publishers. With that said, they are going to have a hard struggle with the rise of Manga as its chief source of competition.
Well's ASM needs to be retconned because every character is treated so OOC and disgracefully, by a writer who doesn't care and jokes about it being an "experiment" that it doesn't deserve to be cannon.
Personally I'm tired of this mixed couple crap. Additionally, the braids need to go, not every black person has them, but one can't tell based on current media.
Not every character is meant to succeed. If DC comics were smart, they would just stick with the characters that people want. Instead there going the same route as Marvel is with Ms Marvel.
I think you should read a real book without pictures like a big grown up. Because you forgot comics aren’t based logic. The whole point of comics in the first place. Don’t over think it. I can prove it with the first issue of Superman
Wes, people are more happy reading Manga and watching anime. Than the actual adult children who hijacked everything around us. I would rather read fanfiction instead. At least fanfiction is made by actual REAL fans of those characters and universe!! Let's be real: Japan won us over!

You might be right, that this is a lame character and yes she is from a lame run. But I really can't agree with your reasons. Unless its for sure that this character is being pushed by higher ups for some weird reason (esg probably), I don't care if a character comes from a bad story. I thinknits rather lame for an adult to he saying they don't won't to be reminded that a bad story exists because a character from then story appears. Mr Freeze was a joke villian with a gimmick, now he is a mainstay. Maybe you can argue that he benefited from time before being re-imagined, sure that is true. But I don't think it matters. I think an adult audience should have more dignity and diligence than to be upset about being reminded a bad story exists. Very lame

If a Nightwing love interest isn’t Starfire or Oracle than what’s the point? He’s always going to be tied to one or the other and anyone else is just wasting the readers time.
true
plus, starfire and barbra are the only girls whom nightwing married in the future and have kids on different earths
I would also accept Huntress
@@missmeme3946
He should marry them both.
I only believe in Starfire.
I'll stick with the older comics
I'm actually surprised they haven't done the opposite and have his identity be revealed like they did with Superman at DC
@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp they already did that once, in civil war.
Which led to One more day.
@@BoudewijnPiet I know, but i'm talking about them making that more permanent
@@BoudewijnPiet I was talking about something more permanent
Fans and readers in general continue to grow more selective about where they spend their money while DC and Marvel keep churning disappointment after disappointment. They truly live in a bubble of their own, rejecting what people want to read.
Just like Wells and Lowe are trying to get Paul over.
This sounds really hilarious but for all the wrong reasons. Sounds like an HBO Max Harley Quinn plot
This causes even the target audience to turn up their noses since they want realistic and engaging characters with interesting stories & personalities and not the companies going, “Here are some tokens, so now you must love us and you’re bigoted & self-hating if you don’t!”
Speaking of DWTS, the actress who played America Chavez was on last season and she seemed personable from what I saw. She wasn’t snooty and cold like some people. I hope she does well in her career.
"Black girl magic." - Nick Fury
LOL.
I literally stopped reading Nightwing during the 'Ric' era. So glad I never went back, it sounds as awful as ever.
Civil War, Dick and Starfire or you gonna be reading Dan Slott's "Spider Who Gobles" only or ISOM 1-2, TLDR keep Babs away from Dick
I stopped reading nightwing when fear state started and it never seemed to get on track
I've always wondered if the Ric change was an editorial decision to get rid of the non kid friendly name Dick.
I think what's missing from all of that is the reveal that Bea is Bruce Wayne's secret daughter. That would definitly get readers into shops.
I'll make a good character.
Sir; gimme your blessing.
Edit:
Imo the best ship is Nightwing x Zatanna 🪄🦇
This just smacks of somebody's fanfic O.C. I'm completely indie and Manga now. I have enough old stuff, and I'm happy to let go of whatever Marvel and DC spew out.
The cliché of memory loss is so stupid and common in South American tv soap operas, that they are used when the writers no longer know what to do to stretch the soap opera. Tom Taylor is so Bad, he could write a bad soap opera in South America.
🚮
Reminds me of something you might get from the old Alias tv show.
If she was an agent os spyral then why the heck was she helpless against KGBeast? I’d like to see Clancy back. She was a much better character.
Why does the art look like something you'd see in an instruction manual?
Not reading Nightwing, definitely not going to start now
Surprised DC didn't make her gay, tbh. Still would've been boring.
Awesome work mate
Artemisia in 300 rise was a good character development. Thats how u do it.
I was wondering what happened to Jarro
Guess comic book writers think their current customers are gullible.
Probably think they are allies, and obligated to buy it because it is their duty.
I think some writers assume longtime fans know even less about the characters than they do. I mean, somehow they assume they can get away with extremely out-of-character, butt-backwards writing that shows they know Jack all about the characters they were somehow chosen to write.
I want Nightwing written by Jeremy Adams!
She’s the bestie secret agent pirate ever! (Sigh)
When you started narrating the synopsis I tuned out
It sounds like they just ripped off Wesley's story from A Princess Bride and made her the Girl Boss version of Dread Pirate Roberts.
I feel like most comics are being written by AI and slightly edited by the "writer." Even the worst comics of the 90s/00s had better writing and art.
They should just give her the code name of Fetch. :)
They weren't hunting for KGBeast, he wasn't part of the story before that, he was hired to shoot Dick
Her backstory sounds like 5 bad movie reboots forced into one movie. 😂 She's practically a Zack Snyder Netflix plot.
With that said, they are going to have a hard struggle with the rise of Manga as its chief source of competition.
why do i have feeling that she's gonna be the tv version of batwoman in the future.
Tom Gaylor just needs ro give it up. He can't write his way out of a wet paper bag.
Sounds like bad fan fiction at this point
Well's ASM needs to be retconned because every character is treated so OOC and disgracefully, by a writer who doesn't care and jokes about it being an "experiment" that it doesn't deserve to be cannon.
Just Krakoa Era X-Men.
Personally I'm tired of this mixed couple crap.
Additionally, the braids need to go, not every black person has them, but one can't tell based on current media.
Obviously she is just missing the puffy shirt. Worked for Jerry and the homeless dudes.
Could it be bc she's.....black? DEI baby. Get those ESG scores up.
Boy,boy, pay attention when I’m talking to you. There’s gotta to be something done with the comic community.
🐓
Not every character is meant to succeed.
If DC comics were smart, they would just stick with the characters that people want. Instead there going the same route as Marvel is with Ms Marvel.
New sub.
Wow
Next she's Naomi's long lost sister.
I stopped reading new comics about fifteen years ago, have absolutely no regrets.
I liked to see Dick with Donna Troy
Who is she again? If you just told me it is a propped-up token character, the video is over in a few seconds.
Speak for yourself. There's far more people looking for entertainment that have absolutely no interest in your Japanese pedo cartoons than do. Don't group us in your gross weeb shit.
Very lame
