It's never been a secret that GB is an incredible vocalist. But coming into that first verse...wow. It took my breath, it's actually gorgeous. I'm too young to have seen this play out it real-time. As a matter of fact, I'm too young to have experienced the active enforcement of an artist being so strictly confined to their assigned genres. GB must have genuinely felt he had absolutely no room to experiment with his sound at all; that any exploration of new ideas would be considered "a betrayal" to country music and to his fans. Imagined being so creatively stifled that the only way to indulge the desire to experiment is by creating a whole-ass alter ego. Being within a generation to have grown up with the internet-with youtube, soundcloud, attainable home studio set-ups, and endless room for musicians and artists to try different things- I guess it's easy for us to take the idea of that freedom for granted. GB, should you ever read this, please feel free to indulge in the creation of whatever sound you see fit. Best selling American musician of all time. Garth did so good in his genre that he crossed over to the complete opposite genre and still kills it. Sounds like the hit Tracy Chapman never had
Honestly bless you for uploading this; for the longest time, the best quality video you could find for this looked like it was recorded on a tin can 😂 Dude was definitely ahead of the game trying to branch out musically like this with a literal concept album, shame people didn't really "get it" at the time. Garth deserved better, this song is such a banger!! 🗣️🗣️
I had no idea he did a video for this! It's just sad that an artist has to create a different persona just to showcase another side to their talent other than what they're "known" for. It's sad that people as a whole can't understand that exploring all of your facets is what an artist does. I'm sad that the whole Chris Gaines planned film never got made. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!
I enjoyed this song when it came out. When I found out it was Garth Brooks.....i was like "you mean country music singer Garth Brooks??" WTF??? Classic.
I haven’t the slightest clue why, but I’ve been holding back tears for the entire time I’ve been listening to this song. I loved Garth Brooks music growing up and I always thought he deserved more of a chance to explore this facet of his musical talent publicly! Wow!!
This whole project was so damn sexy and cool. It made my musician heart open up to see such a major artist take a chance like this. If you're an artist, these kind of moves inspire greatly. Unexpected and first rate. Love you CHRIS/GARTH
YES. Thank you. I feel similarly. Such a sad shame that many of his "fans" seem to be weirded out by this and not appreciate him unfurling his range as an artist. This song in particular is so beautiful. I feel so deeply moved by his expression and delicate surrender. Some of the best vocals I have heard on any pop song ever. And it's all the more meaningful that he took such a big risk by challenging his demographic and image as an artist through experimenting in this way.
I agree, to bad he didn't stand up for his art, and allowed it to be buried! I really believe he would still be known as one of the most influential artists of all time if he would have fought harder to keep his music catalog in his own way and didn't feel the need to keep the commercial giants happy by keeping between the lines!
Love this song by Chris Gaines AKA Garth Brooks.. He is an incredible singer with a gorgeous voice.. I use to listen to this song back in the days on the local Jazz Station ut here in Cali.. I'm so glad I was able to find this on TH-cam. Thank you for sharing this. It's on repeat right now.. LOL
This is literally the only Chris/Garth song I liked. Was and am not into country but admire artists that can change their style, whether to suit others or themselves. And Garth Brooks achieved it quite brilliantly with this song. PS Its amazing what a wig can do😉
I've loved Garth Brooks ever since I heard him sing "Friends in High Places" at the Country Music Awards. I can't think of one song he sang that I don't love. I know that voice. But when I listen to Chris Gaines, I'm listening to Chris Gaines, not Garth Brooks. To think that one man has that much talent inside of him. It's too bad that people didn't appreciate it.
i bought the album from a 2nd hand market stall in about 1999 and spent about £1 on it...i thought: "its only a quid, give it a try" possibly the best £1 i have ever spent...never thought i would love the album so much and still be playing it 25 years later... well done garth! 👏👏👏
They were calling him out for not sticking to his lane back then. He had already won all the awards he could win and all of his albums were insane so he wanted to do something different. This was an amazing album. He was ahead of his time.
He did country music cause in the late 80s and early 90s Oklahoma, there was no other way. Nowadays, this would probably fly. Garth always wanted to be a rock star.

When they album dropped way all the way back in the day, I was FLOORED this while album was just incredible, sad his "fans" hated it, because there is some gold
What a talent! He had balls to make this album. I wish he'd try this route again just to piss people off. Garth was just too far ahead of his time.
Exactly. I hated the hate (😂) Metallica copped for the Black, Load and Reload albums. Come on, people… A lot of bands evolve and become more melodic!
I've known this song for ages but had no idea who sang it. I was gobsmacked. It always reminded me of something Babyface would do although I knew it wasn't him singing. This bloke can sing. I'll never listen to his country music but I could listen to this all day.
My husband and I love this album and we feel like the concept was really interesting. I think people just couldn't wrap their heads around it.
I had this album and I loved it. This song brings back a lot of nostalgia 😌
Such a great song!!!!!!! Such a fantastic vocalist.
I’m just now getting to Chris Gaines. I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS GARTH!!!! Great great great voice and great great great song!!!!!
Best selling American musician of all time. Garth did so good in his genre that he crossed over to the complete opposite genre and still kills it. Sounds like the hit Tracy Chapman never had
Your right...if you close your eyes and think about Tracy Chapman, 🤷🏿♂️
懐かしい。画像も綺麗で聴き惚れています🥰
Honestly bless you for uploading this; for the longest time, the best quality video you could find for this looked like it was recorded on a tin can 😂 Dude was definitely ahead of the game trying to branch out musically like this with a literal concept album, shame people didn't really "get it" at the time. Garth deserved better, this song is such a banger!! 🗣️🗣️
So glad the video is back!! So disappointed when they took it down. This is a beautiful song and I almost walked down the aisle to this.
Always Loved this ❤ Sounds like a babyface song. Very R&B . Great job Garth ❤🎉
This was slick
I agree, to bad he didn't stand up for his art, and allowed it to be buried! I really believe he would still be known as one of the most influential artists of all time if he would have fought harder to keep his music catalog in his own way and didn't feel the need to keep the commercial giants happy by keeping between the lines!
Im a 32 year old black dude and I found this song last week because of a meme and I’ve had this on repeat ever since, crazy how things happen.
You should check out the Childish Gambino cover if you haven't already, solid stuff
@@shikonaori OMG thank you for putting me on to this!
This is such a beautiful song. Loveee it!
LOL
This album is actually amazing and I wish it got more credit
I actually bought the cassette tape when it came out. Lol. It’s really a good tune.
Finally someone uploaded this. Thank you!
Such an awesome album. It shows just how great a vocalist Garth is
This is literally the only Chris/Garth song I liked. Was and am not into country but admire artists that can change their style, whether to suit others or themselves. And Garth Brooks achieved it quite brilliantly with this song. PS Its amazing what a wig can do😉
Stunning and beautiful
Wow I stopped in my tracks when I first heard the song
I've loved Garth Brooks ever since I heard him sing "Friends in High Places" at the Country Music Awards. I can't think of one song he sang that I don't love. I know that voice. But when I listen to Chris Gaines, I'm listening to Chris Gaines, not Garth Brooks. To think that one man has that much talent inside of him. It's too bad that people didn't appreciate it.
It's Friends in LOW Places.
Love this man. Both Garth and Chris.
This isn't on Spotify. Thanks for providing my fix!!!!
thank you Danny
Amazing...this song still gets me every time
i bought the album from a 2nd hand market stall in about 1999 and spent about £1 on it...i thought: "its only a quid, give it a try"
possibly the best £1 i have ever spent...never thought i would love the album so much and still be playing it 25 years later...
well done garth! 👏👏👏
Garth Brooks literally created an entire new artist out of his falsetto
This album is a staple in my CD collection. This song is great, but actually, the whole album is fantastic
Whenever I see or hear Garth Brooks, I know Chris Gaines is living inside him....I love this version of Garth!
One of my all time favorite albums. I love it. Brilliant singing. Garth is ultra talented.
This whole album is amazing. I'm not sure why it got the hate that it did.
From what I've read people thought he'd gone crazy
I think I will listen to album,I love the song
They were calling him out for not sticking to his lane back then. He had already won all the awards he could win and all of his albums were insane so he wanted to do something different. This was an amazing album. He was ahead of his time.
He did country music cause in the late 80s and early 90s Oklahoma, there was no other way. Nowadays, this would probably fly. Garth always wanted to be a rock star.
Country folk don’t like change
I wish people would have allowed GB to continue as CG so the movie would have been released, I would have loved to see how far his talent would actually go. Sadly, we will never see it.
