you can technically switch to a different CSC firmware and the core phone functions will work (just make sure the two versions at least match hardware - snapdragon vs exynos). now, if there are carrier specific apps/features tied to the firmware you're switching FROM, then you will lose those. but whether or not that's the case for you, I can't answer that for example, AT&T, a carrier in the US ships voicemail, account, support, messaging apps tied to its service. if i were to switch from the at&t firmware to another, then I would lose those at&t apps but, I know many people switch to the OXM CSC firmware cause it gets updates faster, or has less bloat? I dunno. I just know there's a popular 'universal' one out there. I just stick with TPA for all of my Exynos phones
I have a few inquiries prior to rooting my device. If I followed the steps shown in the video: Would I lose all the pre-existing data? Would I lose all the essential applications the device comes with i.e, Samsung Health? Would it make my OTA updates any more complicated? Would it pose a threat to the overall security of my device? I am new to rooting and hence would want to make sure everything that I do doesn't screw up my device. Thanks for taking out your time, I appreciate the effort you've put in making this video.
- Yes, all of your data will be initially lost (so backup first) - You will lose some Samsung apps like Samsung Health, Samsung Pay, Secure Folder (more details will be included in the full tutorial that I'll write up today) - Yes, when rooted, you will not be able to download OTA updates normally. We can install these updates with Odin though, so you're still able to update (with a PC) - Rooting always adds a new vulnerability layer onto your phone. but how important this is will depend entirely on how responsible you are. don't install pirated/hacked apps is a good example here as doing so with root could mean you install malware that runs rampant
What if I wanted to update firmware/security patches and already rooted using this method, how would I go about doing that? Do I lose data? I remember being able to do it on my Galaxy S7 but I had to only flash AP via Odin if I recall correctly.

Yes and no. The OEM Unlock feature will show up on Snapdragon versions of the S10 series, but only those sold in very few regions (China, and a few latin america countries iirc). The vast majority of them though, are not ever going to have this OEM unlock feature. @@yessir-pi9fz you're more than welcome to try and see how it goes. all talk I've seen about rooting the phone includes the 'press buttons to boot into recovery mode so you can do a factory data reset' step.
if your way works. let me know :) if it doesn't work, you can always follow my unbrick/return to stock firmware tutorial and start from scratch
@@ExplainingAndroid i dont have a way i was hoping you knew a way to root without having to press the 3 buttons everytime you reboot your phone lol thank you for your time
@@yessir-pi9fz Oh, I now see what you're talking about. You can flash a custom kernel via Odin to bypass that three-button combination at boot up. Check through XDA's S10 forum. there should be plenty of kernels that offer this feature
i rooted my phone and everything was working than i restarted my phone now its stuck in a bootloop ?
is there a different way of rebooting a rooted phone?
Yes, you have to boot while holding volume up, bixby and power.
Great video.
I followed it to the letter, and rooted my S10 plus (SM-G975F)....
...but I've found that the internal storage capacity has fallen from 128GB to ONLY 32GB! (THIRTY TWO).
A) Is this meant to happen?
B) Has anyone else experienced this?
I've heard of this happening when you only flash the modded AP firmware file. If you flash all 4 files as instructed, it shouldn't change your internal storage numbers at all
@@ExplainingAndroid Thanks for the quick reply.
I always flash all the firmware files (BL, CL, CSC, and the patched AP files, together. Never just the patched AP file.
I bought my S10 plus 6 days ago, and have spent at least 3 hours each day trying to root it.
For me, it's unusable until it's properly rooted. So for nearly a week I've tried every day to root it. I Fail. I put the phone back in the box until tomorrow.
I'm still using my old S8 plus, as it's fully customised, and I have loads of Tasker (and associated plugins like AutoTools) projects\profiles for automation.
There are so many YT video's on the rooting the S10 series - and just as many contradictions between each one. Some video's actually show the flashing of the patched AP file ON IT'S OWN via Odin.
I'm now going to, for the last time today, flash the original SM-G975F Android 9 Firmware, then follow your video again TO THE LETTER.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Once again, great video. Keep up the good works.
Is it possible to flash without reset?
sadly no. due to encryption, we need to format the /data partition so that our mod (Magisk) is able to access the data on it

Sadly I tried this method and it keeps failing for some reason and I have to keep refreshing the system
You forgot to mention about unlocking the bootloader ???
Bro how to root Samsung Galaxy a20 exynos7884
can you unlock its bootloader?
Is it impossible to do without a PC?
Correct. The only root methods that I'm aware of that doesn't require a PC is thanks to an exploit. You must use a PC to root the Galaxy S10 series of phones using the official method (I'm not aware of an exploit for the phone yet)
@@ExplainingAndroid Do you think there will be an exploit anytime soon? If so would you make a tutorial on it as well.
@@ExplainingAndroid Also are there any good forums to follow for updated information on things like this and other tweaks
Can i root my phone that is on a contract?
yes, you can root a phone on a contract (as long as you can unlock the bootloader)
What about bootloadr ? keep unlocked
yes, we keep it unlocked because we have Magisk installed (that's not from Samsung and locked bootloaders don't like code that isn't from Samsung)
@@ExplainingAndroid how we can remove the warning screen when we boot its kinda Annoying.
Can I try this I'm on android 10 and on May security patch
yup! it will work on all Exynos Galaxy S10 devices
Im so confused on finding the ap file
after you download the firmware file, you extract it with something like 7zip/winrar. it's there where you will find the AP/BL/CSC files
then patch the AP file with magisk manager apk
Can you root a snapdragon?
only those which you can unlock the bootloader of (which is rare, only a few countries sell them)
How can I root my phone without losing data?
you can't. you have to do the factory reset as mentioned. back up your data ahead of time so you can do a restore with something like samsung smart switch
Fam I need help with smali patcher.
An English narrated root video with proper audio and articulation. I thought I was going to drown in all the Indian videos. No offense but those people need to step up their game.
thank you for the kind words. be sure to share the video :)
