  • The time for WAR has come! Join me as we begin a playthrough against two solo controlled factions in Heroes of Land Air and Sea by Scott Almes and published by Gamelyn Games!
    Heroes of Land Air and Sea is back on Kickstarter for reprint and a new expansion until June 26th: www.kickstarte...

    "Heroes of Land, Air & Sea is a 4X-style board game with miniatures that tells the epic tale of orcs vs. humans, dwarves vs. elves, battling kingdoms, and the individuals who turn the tides of war.
    Players control one of these classic factions, competing to expand their kingdom into new territory. Even the greatest kingdoms begin as small townships, therefore players begin with only a basic town hall, a couple of peons, and a single warrior. From there, players must explore the territory around them, build up their work force, fortify their army, and develop their kingdom - all through careful action selection, exploitation, war, and resource management.
    As players reach milestones in the development of their kingdom, they gain access to many advantages. Peons become warriors, warriors become powerful heroes, and town halls eventually become castles. Players gain access to water, and even air, vessels and creatures. Boarding these vessels and creatures with your units allows for faster travel across the vast game board and for positioning armies for powerful attacks.
    War in Heroes of Land, Air & Sea features a cost/reward system carefully detailed on tactics cards from which players must secretly choose. The availability of these tactics cards depends on the units participating in the war. It is here that players wage their wits and legacy in an attempt to exterminate one another. For as we all know, "history is written by the victors".
    Heroes of Land, Air & Sea also boasts two economic systems, one being the risky acquisition and careful management of the resources (food, ore and mana), while the other is a twist on worker placement that requires the leveraging of peons to construct buildings, peons that could otherwise be exploring, expanding, exploiting, and exterminating! Finding this balance is crucial to victory!"

    Hey Everyone! Hope you enjoy the solo setup and part #1 of the playthrough. Cheers!
    Overview: 1:15 | Solo Setup: 6:05 | Playthrough Part #1: 15:42
    31:28 I made a mistake on following the Build action with my Serf. When following a Build action, one Serf is placed on the Build action space. In order to Build a Building (Sea Dock) another Serf is required and would sit in the Sea Dock column along with a cost of 3 Ore. So I would have had to have another free Serf to Build the Sea Dock but I did have the three Ore at the time. *Big thanks to Mike Hancoski for pointing this out!*
    44:20 The two Ore which was stolen from me by the Dwarves will need to be added to their reserves. No impact to gameplay, this will be given at the start of the next video. *Big thanks to Lynn Bowers for pointing this out!*
    45:26 I missed giving the Dwarves the one Ore bonus from their Capital City upgrade. No impact to gameplay, this will be given at the start of the next video. *Big thanks to Franck Berger for pointing this out!*

    When you follow a build action with 1 serf, you can move the one serf off the action bar to the build you built? This seems over powered because now you can take another build action later, where if you have to leave the serf on the action bar it blocks you from taking the action again during the round.

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mike! Great question. I'm looking into this to ensure. I'll get back to you! Cheers

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right Mike! I have added a correction to the pinned comment to let others know about this. At the time I had the 3 Ore required to build but not the additional free Serf. One Serf should have sat on the Build action and one in the Build column. Thanks for the heads up. Something to watch for going forward! Cheers :)

  • @jackalope70
    @jackalope70 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    At 31:50 when your follow don’t you need a serf to go on the action bar to actually follow? So in this situation I think you’d need to have 2 serfs available. One to go on Action Bar (you’d get him back at end of round) and goes on the building that would remain there for the game. I think, right?

    When the dwarves stole 3 ore from you, shouldn't they have received that ore? And I think you forgot the dwarf priestesses ability, but I could be wrong about that. Thanks for the playthrough. Never seen this game played.

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lynn! Great catch, I didn't add the two Ore the Dwarves stole from me. I will add this to the pinned comment and correct this at the start of the next one. In regards to the Dwarf Priestesses, she doesn't collect an Ore until she completes a move. At which point if she is adjacent to a Mountain region would then gain an Ore. Cheers!

    • @mikehancoski9879
      @mikehancoski9879 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically you only lost 2 ore so shouldn't the dwarves have gained 2 and not 3, per I assume they can not steal what does not exist?

      That's correct I believe. I'll double check the ability as well. Thanks again!

    I've played this a couple times solo and I've found the AI to be a bit of a 1 trick pony. Once I just started building my army up to defend against them I haven't found them much of a challenge. Albeit I haven't tried multiple AI yet (kind of funny since I'm the 1 that asked them to put the deck out so you could print more off).
    I'm not here to say you're wrong for enjoying it, I wasn't too enjoy it way more solo because I love this game and miserably my game nights have died off right now. If you could explain what's driving you after more than a couple playthroughs so you still enjoy it I would greatly appreciate the other perspective. Sometimes with board games its simply a matter of how you look at it that can impact whether you like it.

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert, I can see your angle and I agree with it in terms of playing against one AI faction.
      I think multiple AI is a must as just one AI faction to play against is something that is much easier to manage and even more so over multiple plays as it’s your only threat.
      You can play against up to three other AI factions with just the base box and up to 6 (I believe) with all the other expansions.
      I think this is what makes the game exciting. Plus the differences across the factions. Cheers! :)

  • @Gatherey
    @Gatherey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In your opinion - do you think it's worth getting this game mainly for solo plays? I already have Scythe if it helps because I saw many people on BGG comparing this to scythe/gaia project and I would like to hear your thoughts.

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Gatherey! Based on my solo plays off camera I would say that you want to play maybe one or two games with only a single AI controlled faction. After that it's a much more strategic game when you add in more factions to the mix. It opens up a bunch of potential follow actions and also keeps you worried about a number of factions messing with you or your plans. For solo play even including Scythe I think two AI controlled factions is the bare minimum to ensure you enjoy many plays. As you become more familiar with the game you can add in more AI controlled factions with little downtime. Wouldn't recommend it out of the gate though. I like Scythe and Heroes of Land Air and Sea for solo play. HLAS is easier to get your head around the AI. Scythe takes a couple games to get the movement down. I think they're both well done overall. It's very tough to make a 4X / territory control game work for solo but these two really do work well. Questions is whether you want both or just one. That's a decision I can't make for you ;p Cheers!

    38:56 - I think it would have been better to just move the Serf by itself and leave the Warrior behind the mountain region. The lone Serf would still gain you 2 Food for both controlling the region and occupying the "extra resource" spot but then the Warrior you left behind would generate an additional Ore for you. The only reason to move the Warrior along with the Serf is if you think there is a chance that an enemy will attack the plains region but I think there is little chance of that since the next enemy heroes would be starting their turns from their respective Capital cities at the time.

    • @RollingSolo
