One that shock me is that there is a whole black original webtoon with a great story full of multiple cultures but it goes under the radar without nobody talking about it or way less than any other series
I think that she made the fan art cuz she related to the Characters And she wanted to Express that By drawing them in a way closer to what she looks like And I don't really see the problem with that It's not like she's making Manga And just taking carter's from other Manga and drawing them black It's just the same as Cause playing as a character even if you're not the same race as them
And the west keep tell Japan their culture is wrong and this is how it should be thats crazy they've been harassed for years now their fed up and standing up for there culture
Since the west step foot on their soil it’s been that way and now black folks are joining in on a minor scale. When we should learn from what the Japanese did and create our own using what inspired us. The two way street of creator and fan has to be stronger in black culture.
@akachijones8044 exactly we love their media because how their culture do things and tell story we could learn from them and put our own spin on it not tell them how to tell their story or tell them they are wrong
The strongest difference when it comes to art regarding this is how it's presented. Most cases I've seen, "blackwashing" isn't to replace the original design. 80/20 percent doesn't have the title "I fixed it" and it gets the most hate. However whenever someone "whitewashes" people treat it equally as bad but do not condone it as harshly as blackwashing. It can also be a case of racism and/or hypocrisy. The most traceable example is Brazilian Miku. A Japanese idol given an outfit and skin tone representing Brazil and yet many love it? Little to no racism at all. There are also bits and pieces of evidence the outrage is staged or faked with Google Translate. A portion of Japanese dislike the art, another accepts it and encourages it. The common question is why people don't support black creators and characters, yet never truly support works involving them. Personally, I'm fine with it so long as it is NEVER made out of spite. White Nessa and the Whitewashed Black Panter and Obama (not related) are proof it is never about erasure. We get black/darker skinned characters in anime but they never get the main role we want them to. It's very rare and people want to see themselves in those positions.
yea the whole "blackwashing" claim is absurd. I love how nuance is never applied when it comes to people of color especially black ppl for some reason. If we look at the context of the situation it's simply someone making fanart of an anime they like and decided to add black features to the character. whether the character's depection be asian, african, european etc it doesnt matter bc it's a fan work and no one is claiming it to be the original and the fanart was clearly out of love for the series. On the other hand we have seen countless "whitewashing" post eluding to the canon character needing to be changed, or how the character needs to be "fixed" by being white or changing other canon features. Simply put any fanart made out of love for a series and for fun should not get criticized full stop, but anyone making "fanart" to be racist or be mean to a series and it's fanbase should be called out. if some person wants to make a blonde hair blue eye'd tozen fine by me that would look cool as hell! Just don't attach any racist rhetoric to the art, that last part seems to be a very hard issue for a lot of people who have done "whitewashing" of characters.
False. We japanese can Tan. The Brazillian Miku is a Tan, not a “black” color. Look at the Nessa pokemon debacle not long ago or that one Splatton character. It’s still a “black” color but because it’s a shade lighter these same people who black wash MY PEOPLE’S cultural export, people freaked out and even sent death threats. Either stay consitent. Or not.
While I agree "blackwashing" isn't as bad as white washing. I feel like thse conversations lack a lot of context. Most of those white washing edits made out of spite exist for a reason. For years Arists and creative get harassed for how they draw characters skin tones being lighter. And many times this isn't done with harmful intentions in mind. I know u say u don't care about that as long as its not done out of spite but the problem is many people do care and will go to harass others about it. Another issue with this topic is people looking for representation in anime. Black people don't make up even .1 percent of the overall population. If u want to see black protags in stories, consume more media like that instead of lookingto manga and anime to accommodate u(plenty of comics and webtoons have black protags).
@ EXACTLY. Manga, webtoons, anime. Aren’t even first and foremost designed for WESTERN AUDIENCES. It’s only exported by 3RD PARTY PUBLISHERS. Because it somehow has a market overseas. Mangakas and Manhwha writers first and foremost make their work for their local audiences with fk all care about overseas audiences. THESE ARE CULTURAL EXPORTS.
Been saying this from time, thank you for this video dude
You are appreciated!

I actually would like write for a tubig but wouldn't know where to start
I feel you. You can write and produce your own story or get up with someone that’s making a movie that may need help with the writing.
