Bro, you’ve inspired me to start collecting! As a kid I was obsessed with snakes. So much to the point that I’d ride my bike up to Petco almost everyday to hold the snakes and help feed em. The employees were super chill about me constantly bugging em so that made it nice. I recently got a Ball Python and now I’m getting a BCI Boa-you’ve convinced me, I know I can handle that size eventually as I see now that the growth rate can be slow! Great informative videos-glad you didn’t get tagged up like that other time haha!

Thanks for a giving good visual idea of the sizes! I have a 1.5 year old female boa I ordered arriving this week and am really excited to see how she grows over the years. She's just a pet since I don't breed or anything but the handful of snakes I currently have are all smaller species so a snake with some size will be really cool.

My BCI was 8 ft. 4.5 in. long when she passed away at the age of almost 35 years, but I don't think she really grew much in the last several years of her life. I couldn't measure her length exactly when she was alive, because she would never quite sit still or straighten out enough. She wasn't very bulky, as I never fed her all that much. Mainly I just fed her large or jumbo rats at a maintenance frequency. At her maximum weight I think she was about 28 lbs.

@@obinnaobiekwe4726 She bit me maybe three or four times, but it was always a feeding bite, not a defensive bite (i.e., she mistook my hand for a rat, or aimed too high while I was dropping the rat in, which is why some people use feeding tongs). I think there was once when she was small that she got agitated because there were a lot of people around and she made a bluff strike, but she never actually bit anyone apart from the feeding bites I mentioned.

@@Into_The_Mystery_13 I kept her fed and watered, but didn't overfeed her. Tried to maintain a decent temperature and humidity, and held her occasionally, or let her crawl around in the backyard. I was always gentle with her, even when she bit me. There were times when I took her for granted that will always be a regret, but overall, love and gratitude are the two main emotions I have for her. I'm glad she was with me for that long. She lived ~34 years and 10 months, give or a take a month or so. For over 34 years of that she was in my care, except that my dad took care of her while I was away at college.

It's really interesting to hear you talk about the different snakes. My grandma was a sheep breeder and I've had some sheep as a hobby and also a small breeding project, and you talk about your animals in a way that reminds me of many breeders I've met. In particular, it reminds me of my grandma, because even though at one point she had almost 100 sheep and was regularly breeding them and had them as a business, she was really passionate about them as a project and cared for all of them as individual animals. She had to sell most of her sheep because she was getting older and her flock was a larger breed that she couldn't manage as well as she used to, but she still has her smaller, much more manageable goats and a couple favorite sheep.

I think you're spot on when talking about feeder size being as important to end size as schedule. I think growth/body condition is more about total food consumed than how you deliver that food. I think a lot of the reason females get bigger is because they have a little more genetic size potential, they grow faster, get moved up in prey size faster, and get more total food in the first few years.

Hi Jason, this was a great video, and thank you for filming this. I needed to see some sizes to compare to my Hog Island boa cross Female, who was sold to me as a 2017, but I do not think she has the size of a snake that old. So, thank you again for this video.
