    I 've noticed that the Mirage has a pop at the end of the sample.

    The Mirage is amazing for that early Ensoniq boom bap sound. Sounds more like the rza than dilla for example. The biggest difference I’m my opinion that makes me even want the SP is the sep outputs. The Mirage having 1 mono out is a bummer, especially since with Soundprocess you can make the Mirage multitimbral. Could really get into Fairlight CMI territory if it had 8 outputs

    I love the Mirage's sound and just have bought one. The main difference I found in this comparison is that the SP1200 seems to have a little bit more low end and that the cymbals stay more "separated" from the rest of the kit. On the mirage they bloom more into the mid frequencies and sound louder, like with a compressor. Both sound great! My preference actually changed from pitch to pitch - both had their sweet spots.

    The Mirage sounds thinner compared to the SP's fuller & heavier sound in my opinion. Not that this would be a deal breaker since you can always tune your samples to make different aspects shine through.

    i know you’ve done videos like this before but this one probably did the most to convince me that the mirage actually sounds better than the SP, i almost want to say objectively. synthmania just did a video demoing some mirage factory disks and he is such a true keyboardist he made them sound massive. i guess those of us who don’t have a mirage yet had better get it pretty soon if we ever want a fair price on it.

    Got a noob question: Why is it that the Mirage Disk "patches" sound so real (almost sounds like a late 80s orchestral soundtrack) but when you sample your own sound it sounds obviously 8bit (in a good way no less)? thx. Love the vids! inspiring me to get a Mirage!

    • @TheDaydreamSound
      @TheDaydreamSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What's up Louie!!! Thanks for reaching out!! There's an ISF-1 filter available for the Mirage. Cleans up the samples a bit. I would bet on that being the reason. Or the people at Ensoniq were just great at sampling!

    I just bought a Mirage (DSK-1...just arrived! :) & only now realizing there are actually different OS disk options (like MASOS)?? Could you offer any insight on the general reasons you’d use these? I’ve never seen anyone just lay-it-out (that there are different options & what they’re for.) The OS’s just get vaguely mentioned, never explained.
    Also, it almost seems like there are/were more PC-based-sample-editing-programs for the Mirage (than say, the EPS’s/ASR’s).
    I read a comment the Mirage’s analog inputs are noisy(er than digital transfers from PC, but of course that would bypass the sound of Ensoniq’s A/D’s). I wonder if the Mirage’s ‘8-bit-character-crunch’ would still come across enough to justify transferring sounds digitally (sometimes). Wouldn’t the original factory sound disks probably have been done digitally? (I have no idea).
    Any thoughts?

    • @TheDaydreamSound
      @TheDaydreamSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's up man!!! Thanks for reaching out!!! In short MASOS is just an advanced software operation system for the Mirage. It has additonal features and capability that the traditional O.S dosen't have. There's also the Soundprocess O.S which allows you to do even more things with the Mirage. Here's a video of a Mirage sample transferred into an EPS16+ th-cam.com/video/BinVL3Li2O4/w-d-xo.html

    To be honest,I couldn't spot any difference.I would choose Mirage because I know the sound it produce from beats that used Mirage to sample and filter the drums,not because i could spot any difference.It might be the untrained ear,or the flattening that sometimes happens through media(speakers,microphone and especially youtube filtering),but really they both sound crisp and warm.
    I would be quite interested to see the comparison with a bass sample on both of these machines.There is where the 4bit difference do make difference.
    Great video regardless,informative as always.

    The mirage was affordable even in 1990 but yeah at 8 bits it will be crustier than the sp the sp is great if you don't care about price and want to own a major piece of sampler history if you just want a vintage a sampler the mirage is a more sane choice

    Hi Daydream, another question haha, sorry to bother. Is the DMS-8 Mirage Module sound exactly the same as the Keyboard versions (DSK-1 and DSK-8)? And will I be able to pass velocity information to the DMS-8 through my midi keyboard controller? Appreciate you taking the time!

    Wow, the Mirage sounds nice. But whats goin on with the sample on it? The release of the fist kick/ride goes down in volume and sound like there is a compressor with a quiet long attack on it. Surprisingly only on the first kick and not on every drumhit. If this is a common behavior of the Mirage I guess that it is a good sampler for single drum samples and percussive instruments.

    It maybe seemed like the SP had a low end push and the Mirage had sort of a mid-low end push.
