These are so important. My mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly from a stroke while traveling several years ago. She had an advanced directive and was an organ donor. We were 100s of mile away but knew her wishes and had copies of all the paperwork. It took away the stress of the decisions and also removed the burden from our father-in-law who was there with her and experiencing the trauma of the situation.

Yes! So very important. I've heard from so many people they have these documents because they signed them in their doctor's office. They didn't understand they could create one that travels with them.

Super helpful information, Vicki! My ex-BIL just went through some stuff surround Medical POA. He didn't have time to do it so he let his sister do it for his dad (not hers) and when his dad has a heart attack, she wouldn't listen to their mom or my ex-BIL. His dad was suffering and he was powerless to do anything about it. It's really sad but he should've known better for a lot of reasons. She thought she was going to heal him through prayer alone and wouldn't allow them to give him anything for pain. He passed several days later and it's heartbreaking to think he needlessly suffered. As an RN, it's very hard to watch families make decisions for their loved ones when they aren't sure what that person wants. I hope people take this seriously and get these papers drawn up. Thanks for another information packed video!

@LonnaRaeDHD That is so awful. I'm sure your ex-BIL had no idea of the consequences that decision would eventually bring. 😢Thank you for sharing, it will help others understand how important it is to select the right healthcare proxy. 🙏🏾
