Minimal wage go's up prices go up to cover costs so nothing changes. When people who work are living in cars. There will always be people who wont fit the norm doing the daily grind. Every day people are feeling the pressure
I had to do that with my business and so do 80% of customers i know especially the ones that rely on labour. Its what we have to do to avoid redundancies and losses. But at the same time it doesn’t help the working and struggling classes. I know too many people on rent and the people who own all these properties are the only ones putting more money in their pockets.
I’m classified as homeless. But we have a roof...so grateful. It is difficult but I’m glad we have a place to live. What we have gone through is disgusting. The stress has taken a toll on my family and I’ve been ill and developed a rapid heart beat and headaches and other issues. My mother developed a heart issue. What we have gone through deserves a story. Our mental health is suffering. My depression is high. The conditions are cramped and confined. But we are warm and have what we need. Government doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Been like this for months in different places we have been shifted to. It demoralises you...makes you feel less than human or trash because of something that isn’t your fault. The change in people once they know you are living a certain way can be hurtful. I’ve woken up gasping from all the stress. Been in 6 different places so far. Motels to caravans to even a floor.......we were in the car upset at one point without a home. No one would help. We lived on a busy road and every time a car would rush by my anxiety would rise. The heat has been suffocating. My mother was near unconscious from the heat last summer in our caravan. It all started with a 90 day eviction notice and went from there. We didn’t have a reason they just got rid of us like we were trash. The trauma it has left is lifelong. How do you recover...
Kia Ora for sharing your story Daisy - it means a lot to me that you've shared your journey and story of where you and your whanau has been; it's not an easy thing to do and it takes real mana to take the time and write that. I hope you and your family are in a better place and continue to prosper in the future. If you'd like to chat more, feel free to reply or send a private message through Facebook :) - Corey
Daisy, I pray your circumstances have improved. It must have taken courage......so many of us are being rented substandard overpriced homes and it galls me how the property agents are entirely working for the owners and are able to manipulate the tenancy act shamelessly when house owners change their minds mid lease. In the past 6 years we have had 4 rented houses, have twice been given notice to leave (supposedly long term rental houses) because the owners' family were moving in. In one, this was patently untrue, it but was a means of renovating ( in one rental the bathroom/ laundry floor had entirely collapsed and the year before the toilet flooded into 2 bedrooms resulting in 5 different contractors and 5 days of dehumidifiers, with my daughters and I breathing in god knows what from the ancient carpets as well as black mould throughout one side of the house) I ended up with double pneumonia and this was through 'professional' property management. After leaving they even charged me for professional carpet cleaning although I saw the owner walk in with workboots and start smashing down walls to renovate! It's so very wrong that there is such a gap between the wealthy/obscenely rich and us average/low income people. And yes it is hard to maintain self esteem when you are treated like 2nd class citiains. So very many empty 'holiday homes' and land banked sections, I feel for you Daisy, the stress can really eat you up, C'mon NZ sort your priorities out. Kia Kaha, keep your chin up. You are not at fault.
50 million, it needs to be a few billion, but you wouldn't understand unless you been in that position or you have true compassion for others but its gonna take more than 50 mil
We still have many of our people homeless some passing away out there on the streets in cars under bridges..with no plan..what are we teaching our children those who are mental health that they are getting neglected with no further support.. something needs to change..it's all across the world in nz is saddens me to see to know to meet these people without the necessities and stability..
