Wow thank you so much for doing this. The story behind this song for me is I heard it the summer between freshman and sophomore year and managed to catch it on tape but never found it again or who did it. I finally found it because of the internet in 2008. So it took 23 years to find it. But the bass line was always one of my favorites and I was not surprised to find out it was most likely Mick Karn (though he isn't credited on the song). The Wal fretless is a stand out to me from the early 80s. Though I am mostly a synth nerd I started learning bass about six months ago and I want to learn to play this bass line.
You are welcome, one of the purposes of this channel is to receive suggestions for good songs to be covered. True, I checked and Mick Karn is not credited, but the bass line sounds to me 100% like his style.
I'm going to have Maruszczyk build me a headless fretless bass that hopefully gets me close to the Wal sound. Btw the song is called Tender is the Night.
Thank you, I corrected the name of the song. Good luck for the Maruszczyk: if you accept an advice be VERY clear with Adrian about pickups positioning.
hey Luke watching lots of your vids this morning with my 6 year old daughter we love it . you have an amazing sound and some just beautiful basses. I had one a road worn jazz that I sold cause we were skint, to many kids, 6 last count lol. this one Eliza wants to know why you don't show your face, I told her you were a secret agent. lol . take care . Neil.
Hi Neil, first of all congratulation for your family: 6 kids!!! ...and thanks again for your support. Here is the answer for Eliza: "because my face does not look like George Clooney nor Tom Cruise faces, so I prefer people watch my basses :-)" Maybe shortly I will make some changes in my channel, something like demo videos about my basses, question and answer and so on. Take care!
Fantastic. Only just discovered this song despite being a fan of 1983 music for ages.
Loved this bass line, such a great songabd the bass line played by Bill Nelson himself I believe

WHERE CAN I FIND THE TABS I WANNA PLAY THIS
I HAVE NO IDEA.
Bill was quite the bass player. interesting that he approached writing bass lines from a bass players perspective not as a guitarist.
