Tutorial ANSYS CFX Part - 2/2 | Analysis of propeller, calculation thrust and power

  • In this tutorial I will show you how to make steady-state CFD analysis of propeller and calculation thrust (Force) and power.
    1.We will create a water volume which to imitate calculation area
    2.In module ANSYS Meshing we will set up parameters a grid
    3.Will learn how to set boundary condition in ANSYS CFX-pre
    4.We will post process the calculation results, and find out value thrust and power.

      Thanks for the video, I am not pretty sure but I think your inlet and your outlet is wrong, they should be opposites

    Hi, thanks for the great video! Could you possible make a savonius simulation inside a pipe? and derive power graphs and power coefficient graphs with RPM? That would be a huge help. There is a gap in existing videos!

    Default domain and domain 1 are isolated fluid regions and they dont have pressure levels set

    Can you justify why did you take the reference pressure for the rotating domain to be 0 atm? For the initialization, shouldn't it be the same as static pressure everywhere, which is 1 atm in your case? Also, why didn't you initialize the domain?
    If we want to simulate the performance of the propeller at a certain depth, the reference pressure for the default domain would correspond to the hydrostatic pressure at that depth, right? In anticipation of a prompt response.

    Is there any way to not lose almost all speed at boundary?
    When you show streamline at 6.58 (th-cam.com/video/tBOFspg0sdU/w-d-xo.html) it looks like that the velocity drop with about 2 m/s wwhen it pass over to the still fluid. Is there any way I can prevent that?

    it looks very confusing :( i couldn't understand why you used two times abstract option, can you please tell me about in a bit more detailed way? And why did you throwed mesh to the blades. I used to know that we only mesh the enclosure domain . İ have seen others cfx analysis and they didn't mesh the blades of any turbo machine.

    Clearly your Yplus values were out of range. Does this MUST be fixed or can it be just ignored? In the case it must be fixed, what is a recommended strategy to do so?

      Hello, you can do size of prism layers less than in this video and to see how yplus change. For k-e model you must have yplus = 30 - 300, on blade and hub.

    Hi Sir, at 8:01, the lowest total pressure is -7.185e+05, which is way lower than the atmospheric pressure (saturated vapor pressure) and cause severe cavitation. Any comments? thanks.

      Hello, in this case pressure can has any value, because cavitation model is not activated

      Добрый день, да есть возможность определить обороты, использовать метод 6DoF, предварительно задав момент инерции ротора.

      @@user-dc2sx2gx5k нет, момент инерции это характеритика которую можно определить в CAD программе, зависит от формы и материала ротора, и не зависит от скорости вращения

      I created a 3d model in a CAD Solidworks, and after, i used CAE ANSYS Workbench where simulation was completed.

      Hello, you will get inaccurate results on walls for shear stress values, it means some troubles with calculation moment on a shaft

      Correctly boundary conditions. If you don't get a convergent you can to use transient simulation.

      in a six core core i7 (3930k) it converge but in a less powerful CPU (2600K)
      its wont converge

    Hi my friend, can you explain the negative value of force and torque on the impeller? Is there something wrong for that?

      Dear ngoc tranbao!
      Everything is correct, negative value of force and torque because in global system coordinates impeller was installed so that force was directed along -Y axis, but if we will rotate of impeller on 180 degrees relatively axis X, we will have positive value force. Torque depends of where we directed rotational speed relatively axis.

    thanks for the video but i have to say Ansys is by far the worst and least ergonomic software i'v ever used.
    its so messy and full of absurd things.

      @@CFDIntech смотрел это видео для расчёта имеллера и спрямляющего аппарата, построенного во фрикад. Задача несколько отличается от рассмотренной по-этому есть сложности при переносе на мой случай. Думаю при наличии пояснения будет легче всё это понять. Пользуюсь Ansys Help но это занимает время.
