China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:

Travel with my wife alone without guide, i most say its very safe to travel compare to other countries i have been to. I will even say china is one of the saftest place to travel for foreigne really. Meeting alot of people that want to help, even most of them didn speak english. I am from europe and the media in my country dont really have much good to say about china, but in reality if you take the trip to china and you really see with your own eyes. I dont really know how to explaining it, but very beautiful country and nice.

Honestly, there are so many places to see in China. I personally like the riverside small towns in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces best. You can live in a hundred-year-old house and walk along the stone-paved lanes near the river. It's really romantic especially in rainy days. I recommend Tongli and Nanxun

The communist party wiped traditional Chinese culture decades ago. It was part of one of their insane programs called "The Four Olds" during which they tried hauling ancient Emperors from their tombs. So you can see the great wall but the Chinese people are cut off from their ancient root. The communist party simply does not tolerate any ancient philosophy, religion, art, poetry, music or literature that competes with their omnipotent control.

No. 2: Zhangjiajie for its iconic stone forests or Yangshuo for its unique karst landscape.
No. 3: Shanghai, Shenzhen incl. neighbouring HK, Macau and Guangzhou for a real world experience of drastic change of Chinese cities and the multiculture of once colonial HK and Macau.
No. 4: Depending on your preference, Pingyao, Lijiang, Lhasa, Kashigar and so on are there for you to choose from. They are all quite different and geographically far from each other.

i am chinese, from Guangdong province. I also have my list of traveling around China(some place are close geographically, so we can visit them at the same time ):
    1. Beijing
    2. Chengdu&Chongqing
    3. Guangzhou&Shenzhen (where I study and work)
    4. Shanghai&Hangzhou&Suzhou&Wuzhen
I have been to 1~3 , maybe No.4 will be my next trip.
Generally I think there are two types of travelling places: (ancient) cities & natural sightseeing. Beijing、Xi'an are ancient cities. Mountains、lakes(Dali、Guilin)、plateaus(Tibet、Qinghai)、prairies(inner Mongolia) are natural sightseeing.
I prefer cultural travel, so I would like to go to big cities to experience the food、the dialects、the buildings and local people there.

We've been to Yangshuo last weekend. It rained on Sat night until yesterday (June10,2019) so we only visited the Guanyan Cave and Li river/Yulong river via Gongnong bridge. There were many spots that we have passed to visit like the Butterfly Spring Cave, Big Banyan Tree, etc, because of the bad weather.
It's not advisable to visit during rainy season as some roads may be flooded when the river swells. Transpo will be hard to arrange. Besides, the color of the river will be brown as milk tea... The mountains arouns the river are best viewed and photographed when the sun is hitting it. It will be hard to make good exposure to get the vividness that you desire when the weather is cloudy. The plants covering the mountains are in deep green color compared to the color of the plants/trees on the valley. But if you insist on going there on rainy season, be prepared to be stranded there for 1 or more days due to unexpected cancelled bus bookings.

Chengdu for sure is a popular place to visit because of beautiful scenery, giant pandas, and their relaxing life style. I also always wanted to visit Lijiang. This is another super popular place for foreign visitors. Zhangjiajie is must-see too. Sanya and Qingdao are for by-the-beach vacations. OH, I WANT TO TRAVEL! LOL.

jason saunders WOW that came out from nowhere, I think China is economically capitalist and 99% of us don’t eat cats or dogs. Politically it is authoritarian, and yes, more open up to freedom of speech is needed, but I think it’s a slow process and rush to western democracy brings no good to the currant society of China.

The video should be expanded to "25 Best Places", to include diversity, man-made structures, naturally created wonders, peaceful and tranquil scenes especially the lakes, icy environments and ice sculptures, and vibrant but burning deserts, especially where deserts are transformed to green and fertile land. I am hoping that the pandemic is over to make my visits again. I was never disappointed in any of my visits. The year before, I visited, Chengdu, Emushan, Jiuzhigou, Chongqing, 3 Gorges Dam, and Yichang. Last year, I went to Wuiyshan, Fuzhou, and Xiamen. I am hoping to visit Urumqi, Qinghai, Guizhou, and many other places.
